Root flash with s-on? and lower ping?

No, you very likely cannot flash roms with s-on. I could be wrong, if you still have clockwork recovery give it a shot.

In order to obtain s-off again (highly recommended) gather the files in this following thread, and start from step 3.

And no, there's no way to lower your ping. Not that you can have enough control over, anyways. There's several factors to ping. Connection speed (which won't be all that great through a phone). Your location vs. your ISP. Your ISP's location vs. the location you're connecting to. The speed of that location's connection. I'm sure you see where this is going... you're only a tiny part of the equation.

If it's that simple, then why are people needing to downgrade to get s-off? I don't get the point of that thread then...since the whole point is to gain root on 2.3.4 to downgrade and get s-off...

You don't *need* to downgrade; s-off just gives you a lot more options if your phone were to become unusable, and basically guarantees you will always have root access by allowing anything to be flashed in the bootloader.

Also some root apps only work properly with s-off.

If he did the older version of Unrevoked workaround after accepting 2.3.4 then he would need to go through the downgrade steps. I got the impression (perhaps incorrectly) he was an old skool rooter that had a rooted phone but not s-off from back when the Unrevoked package didn't used to do both. So yep, if he went through the first part of Scotty's thread to get root, it's not as easy as I stated.
