Got it today but...no Flash support

Does anybody remember if any Flash web pages were demoed in the presentations in Hong Kong or London? I recall reading the speculation going into San Diego's canceled CTIA event that "this would be Google's chance to remind everyone of Android's Flash support right after Apple's iPhone announcement."

So, actually, isn't is odd that Flash isn't already ready, it being such a "signature" component of the Android platform.

What IF Android 4.0 is truly where Adobe is ending its commitment to the mobile platform? That would be making a compelling and very clear statement on their behalf.

What statement is there to be made here for Adobe? Flash for mobile is done nonetheless. Some would call it Steve's last statement. If they do end up supporting ICS, that means they're opening up a whole new can of worms as it relates to updates, bug fixes and support for the new platform - especially as more phones get the ICS updates or are released with ICS next year. It would truly suck, but if they don't end up supporting ICS, it wouldn't be truly surprising. I work in digital marketing, and developing in HTML5 is now a requirement for our clients. Haven't touched Flash in a while. Even Adobe says that they're doing this to focus more on supporting HTML5, on their blog.

"However, HTML5 is now universally supported on major mobile devices, in some cases exclusively. This makes HTML5 the best solution for creating and deploying content in the browser across mobile platforms. We are excited about this, and will continue our work with key players in the HTML community, including Google, Apple, Microsoft and RIM, to drive HTML5 innovation they can use to advance their mobile browsers."

Specifically I was referring to Mike Chambers blog entry after the big announcement last week -- or actually, the Q&A that occurred in the comments at the bottom. I read all of it when it made the rounds (it's longer now), and there seemed to be some sentiment from devs that they'd be able to "ease into" the transition, either refining their video skills on the Flash/desktop side, or brush up on HTML5 on the mobile side.

But the massive layoffs that preceded Adobe's announcement should have been more than enough to indicate their intent was immediate and final.

Interesting... Everyone was so caught up in the ICS news and hype, launch dates and 5mp camera that no one put two and two together on the Flash support front. This went under the radar. As more folks get the phone, there's going to be some headlines on this. Considering those massive layoffs, I assumed it was pretty immediate, but never thought about ICS.

Damn.. such suffering being an early adopter. What other surprises are awaiting us?

Kinda amazed that this thread got moved since it pertains to the Nexus and ICS in a major way. Either way it does promote one huge feature about the upcoming Galaxy Nexus. Flash doesn't work on it. So why bother with it if you already have an SG 2?

P.S. Side note i noticed it's still in the Nexus forum so never mind on the move lol.

Everything is trying to move to HTML5, which apparently doesn't require Flash. Doesn't help in every circumstance, though.

Well, you can always try to sideload the latest version of Flash for Android... Google "Flash Android .apk" and see if you can get that on the phone.

I know that Adobe was dropping mobile support for Flash... but I didn't know they'd do it THIS fast!

Not to mention the actual main transition to HTML5 is at least two phone generations away. Waiting for an alternative for Flash is not an alternative for the Gnex.

Skyfire is not really the answer, since the conversion results in lower res video and weaker sound. Skyfire appreciates the data mining though.

I really wish someone would report back on whether side loading it worked or not
It was said in the huge pre-release thread up above that side-loading did not work and the error was that it was not compatible with the device (or OS).

But, my Flash fears have been somewhat calmed due to the announcement by Google that Adobe will support Flash in ICS. Yay. :D

If they don't ever update, you could always root and have the phone report it is something else when installing.

I really wouldn't worry, it'll come - in some form or another...

It wouldn't even shock me to hear Adobe reverse course and start supporting it again. (that's pure wild speculation of course) I doubt it would happen, but it wouldn't shock me.

As I said..

"Adobe will release one more version of the Flash Player for mobile browsing, which will provide support for Android 4.0, and one more release of the Flash Linux Porting Kit - both expected to be released before the end of this year. After that time, Adobe will continue to provide critical bug fixes and security updates."
