Well I dont have my own website so I thought I will post it here. As you all know, on the website TELUS Mobility - Canada's top wireless phone company, the motorola milestone is coming soon. But what you may not have noticed is that the coming soon picture was on the right side, and now its on the left side (and it has a new picture). I think it means that release date is getting closer. Oh, and watch this video about the telus motorola milestone by mobilesyrup.

Does anyone know, will the off contract one come unlocked?

And how about it being locked down? are these going to be locked down by Motorola so the linux files are digitally only signed for by Motorola?

I asked Bestbuy and a bunch of Telus dealers and they all said the phone comes locked to Telus even if you buy it outright.

I preordered from Bestbuy...hopefully it doesn't cost too much to unlock.

And yes I've heard that the Milestone (so far the European one) won't be able to use custom roms due to some signing required by Motorola.

Thanks man, for the info. But seriously Motorola screwed the pooch on that lock down, that is the reason I want Android, is so I can customize and mess around with the phone. Any idea if its the Euro ones being locked down only, or also the Telus one?

No idea if the Telus one will be locked down but I assume it will be...no idea why the Droid isn't though..

if you buy a device outright you are legally entitled to the unlock code, as the device is unsubsidized... at least that's how it works down here...

So if I buy it outright, in the bestbuy up in Canada, I can demand my unlock code?

And say these devices are locked down by Motorola, so no rooting, but then they decide to unlock the files, can that be done by a simple update from Moto? Like OTA?

And will they support the devices even though I am not on Telus, but rather AT&T?

So no unlock code at all?

And Will anyone that is going to buy one on day one, tell us if the phone is locked down by MOTOROLA to insure no rooting?

No, no unlock code from Bestbuy or I'm assuming Telus as well. I've preordered one so I'll get it on day one but I have to see how unlocking goes as I'm with Rogers. Once that's done I'll let you know about the locked rooting if I can figure that out.
