Hi all,

I've been using my HTC Incredible S for about six months now - updated it for gingerbread, and everything worked fine :)

But today my phone froze, so I restarted it - and then I got some strange reboot startpage (I've attached an image).

I've tried to hard factory restart my phone, but still I get this message!

Can some please help me here?

I haven't tried to do any rooting stuff, so I'm a bit confused

Best regards
Malke

Hi Malke, I've moved your post to the Incredible S subforum, hopefully those who use the device will be able to assist.

I'm familiar with the HBOOT screen (also referred to as the Bootloader), but I've never seen the Security Warning message at the top. Is your device network branded at all, or is it stock software straight from HTC?

No problem, sorry!

Did it have any apps on it that were related to your network provider? Does that make more sense? Does it have your networks logo on the back of it anywhere?

Also, do you see your networks logo whilst it's switching on?

Thank you for your replies.

No, it didn't have any apps from my network provider - and there are no logo from the provider aswell on the phone anywhere.

As far as I can remember it said which network it was using :)

I've had a little google and what I thought looks to have been confirmed.

In that picture, underneath the warning, see it says S-ON at the end of the text? What that means is that your bootloader is locked and you cannot load any software that isn't electronically signed by HTC and specific to your device. The security warning message means that the update you downloaded could have been corrupt (or the OS itself has become corrupt) and the bootloader doesn't recognise it as official HTC software, preventing it from loading.

You have 2 options, you can call HTC and explain what the situation is (if you've not done anything, you'll be covered under warranty), or try to find a matching RUU (Rom Upgrade Utility) and run that from your PC in an effort to restore working software to your phone.

I'm not overly experienced with the Incredible S though, so I have no idea what RUU you'd need. Hopefully someone here would be able to chime in. I'll be honest and say I'd give HTC a call though.

Probably not the answer you were looking for, sorry!

PG32IMG.zip is the name of the file used by HTC to put the software on your phone. All HTC phones follow a similar naming convention, mine is PD98IMG.zip for example. What the bootloader is doing is checking to see if there is a PG32IMG.zip file on your SD Card to try and load. It can't find anything, so you're getting those messages.

I took a back-up of my SD-card to my computer - before doing anything. The SD-card is wiped, but I tried to find this PG32-ish files on the back-up I took, but without any luck :(

Okay, but since I can't find these files is that why I can't reset my phone to factory settings?
Every time I'm doing that, the only thing that happens is that it restarts and go into this bootload-mode and then I have to turn the power down, and switch it on again. And when it starts up in HTC sense, then only some text messages are deleted

Quite annoying, I really liked not to send my phone to repair - since it takes 5-10 days :(

Thank you for your fast replies :D

Thanks for that, you may be able to flash an RUU for that software version and it would probably sort, but I'm 99.99% sure you need to be S-OFF to flash RUU's.

You're best bet is just to see what HTC say.

Okay, I'll wait for do any rooting-stuff before the warranty is outdated or telecare (the company who do the repair) claim they can't help me.

Thanks again for your replies - I'll keep in touch when I got an update ;)
