***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Really need an answer sometime tonight on this :( If someone could be so kind to provide some insight PLEASE :(

Okay, so, I wanted to confirm this theory that has been discussed and double check something because of upcoming questions about Christmas items being directly toward me this holiday season.

My intention is to purchase the Nexus, but, my fiance wants to give me a gift card to Amazon (which will almost completely cover the purchase price under contract of the phone). Here is the catch... I have a current contract and have a year left.

I've heard you can purchase a new smartphone with a new line of service. Get the data plan for it (account is grandfathered in for unlimited), and then move a dumbphone onto the exisiting line that I have, and remove all services from it.. essentially paying an extra $10/mo until the contract is up in a year for that line.

Is this possible, and, if so, can I make the purchase through Amazon when the Nexus becomes available?

Thanks for any advice!

I am not sure about amazon, but you can do this through Verizon directly. It should work the same with amazon, but you need to read the terms of service, they may not allow you to remove the monthly data charge without incurring their ETF. I doubt it, but you may want to double check. Also, be aware that taxes on the extra line will bring the total closer to $15 per month, or an extra $120 over the course of the contract. Hope this helps.

However you won't get unlimited data on the new line, sorry missed that part. You will get tiered.

WARNING!

If you have unlimited data now, you will LOSE it if you EVER drop it! That's my understanding. They will restore you, alright: to tiered data.

You could always go to a place like Swappa, get a cheap smartphone to use until Nexus is released, and then sell it again (or keep it as a spare).

I agree with the spare phone thing. It's always a good idea to keep phones (if they won't sell for a reasonable price) so you can fall back on them if stuff like this happens. For example, I sold my Thunderbolt thinking the Galaxy Nexus would be out soon but it turns out it isn't, so I reactivated my sister's old OG Droid and it will work out perfectly for me until I get the latest Android toy :D

You can only have unlimited data on a line already carrying it. You can not add a line of new service and get unlimited

First time poster and been lurking for a while. I just wanted to say that this was my first thought too. I also thought that perhaps I was being a little too nit picky, but honestly you are right one of those statements is a lie on Vzw's part.

Anyways sorry my first post comes across as negative. I am psyched for this phone to release and also happy to see that the 16/32g question seems to be answered. I had gone to a Vzw corporate store to check out the Rezound just in case. Ok back to my corner I go:D.

Welcome misk no corners here just a big circular room with a party! Have fun :)

While I think this is true, I chatted with 2 reps who assured me I could reactivate a smartphone with UD if it was activated within 30 days, and I called them.

I saved the chat transcripts, and I would recommend not switching to a dumbphone unless you can get some kind of note on it.

1. If you know the G-Nex will be out by year's end, why is the specific date between now and then crucially important?

So I know how long I'm gonna have to wait. Not knowing is a little frustrating but, there's no way I'm getting the RAZR or Rezound over a Nexus.

2. If Verizon announced a release date, testing hit a hiccup and the launch was delayed, would you be more angry than if they simply told you "by the end of the year"?

As long as there's communication, I'm ok with any legitimate hiccups that occur. Holding up the phone to fix their bloat, if that is the case, is not legitimate IMO.

Does this suffice or would you ask that I do more on behalf of our community?

I, honestly, would prefer Phandroid/AF to NOT get involved; the Journalistic reputation of Phandroid/AF is more important to me (I like this place a lot :3 ). All this hoopla needs to stop; some people need to calm down and wait or buy some other phone and be happy.

hello, well i have some insight, I have done this a few times already, I will actually be doing it when i get the nexus as well, i have one of my add a lines that isnt in use (dummyphoned) with an available upgrade, you wont have any issues doing this i promise. only catch i see is that after taxes it comes closer to 14-15 a month and also vzw has gotten rid of 1 year contracts, unless Amazon somehow allows you to get a 1 year, if thats the case then even better.
