Siyah Gingerbread kernel (v2.x)

"Paginated"... that's the word I was looking for. Describes it perfectly on my vertical Launcher Pro App Drawer.

Tried an experiment yesterday and reverted to TouchWiz with a list App Drawer and there seemed to be no problem with scrolling with either lulzactive or smartassv2 which is what prompted me to ponder the question in an earlier post regarding 3rd party launchers.

If I remember correctly, it was such launchers that were blamed for lags and stutters in the early beta versions of 2.2 on xda.

Perhaps someone may correct me but I guess that gokhanmoral is "pushing the envelope" on tweaks to this kernel and some are going to be compatible and others may not be, depending on the ROM/theme/app's installed.

Ondemandx, however, is working fine and giving me better battery results, so far, than beta6 on either lulzactive or smartassv2 so I'm going to stick with this for the time being. :)

I dont fancy changing from Go Launcher, so I'm stuck with Beta6 for the time being.
I do however notice 2.2 rc1 is imminent. I dont hold out much hope for this for myself tho.

Edit:
I'm now testing beta 16 with tw 4.5
No crashes yet but I have literally just reflashed, booted and posted, so I shall see how it goes.
Home screens and app drawer are both smooth with ondemandx @ 1200

Edit 2:
Seems like my freezes were due to go launcher not liking something with beta16 or vice versa.
No freezes up to now with tw4.5.
Decisions decisions. Ditch beta16 or go launcher.
I'll test go launcher with rc1 when it comes out. If it still crashes with 2.2 official release then I think I will have to bin it for tw4.5

Anyone else having go launcher issues with beta 16?

No, I'm not convinced either after running 16 for several hours. Battery stats aren't as good as I first thought, even after taking the performance hit of ondemandx over smartassv2... and the browser seems to have developed a few annoying hangs and text input quirks. That might just be me though, I haven't had much practice.

13% discharge in 1 hour browsing... fook that!

Can't decide whether to drop 6 back in or go for something else... maybe summat stable.

hehe I get that just breathing on mine. Honestly Im contemplating changing the battery. Could always be a duff unit after all. I do play games alot and ive been known to have to charge my phone up to 100 3 times a day.

Wow, 3 times a day? What a PITA! Mind you, games will hammer it... could be a duff batt I suppose but I'd be inclined to try a stable kernel known to give good stats (ninphet?) before splashing out on a new battery... then again, a spare battery is never a bad idea.

Im considering one of those clip on battery units . Makes the phone a bit chunkier but i know they work.

Here's what I've tried ;

Numerous kernels , all siyah betas , ninpth 2.1.3 , cfroot , speedmod .

Different Roms including villain and check.

Checked wakelocks.only wakelock is wi fi now..

Underclocking , powersaving mode, powersaving governors and several battery apps from the market not to mention the battery calibration method from xda ...

Still i have never seen less than 10-15% battery drain over night left in sleep mode.

Hmmmm, having tried all that it does make you wonder, doesn't it?

The way I see it, if you enjoy games it can't hurt to have one of those hi-capacity power packs around anyway... there's bound to be some decent deals out there... and I'm sure I don't need to tell you about fakes etc etc.

Siyah 2.2 rc1 is up!

Changelog:

reverted /mnt/emmc change for AOSP ROMs (External sdcard was being mounted to /mnt/sdcard/external_sd but it was causing come problems) This should fix external and internal sdcard mounting issues with CM7.
removed some changes that was causing lockups during boot or random reboots.
tweaked lulzactive a little bit

known issues:

only external sd is mounted over usb in CWM recovery.
ondemandx governor may cause lockups or random reboots. I will look into that. for now, use lulzactive instead..

lulzactive seems better on 100-1200MHz, stock voltage. smartassv2 is the same... jerky!

Do not run this on smartassv2!!

It shut my phone down, thought it was bricked as it took three long attempts on the power button before the boot logo showed... luckily I didn't have the governor set on boot!

Now running lulzactive on 100-1200MHz, as suggested by ironass, seems ok so far (all of 20 minutes).

I know, I know, it's my own fault, I ran the gauntlet with a known issue... but I've lost confidence in this kernel, reckon it might be a dog and only on my phone until I decide what to flash next.

Well, nearly 7 hours in with Siyah 2.2rc1 on lulzactive, 100->1200MHz, no Profiles and stock voltage.

Looking good! :D

Scrolling is smooth in the Launcher Pro app drawer, first time since beta6.

No FC's or SOD's.

Loads of Deep Sleep.

Minimal wakelocks.

Will keep monitoring it but the early signs are good for me... this of course means, judging by past experience, this will be rubbish for Sydney99.

Welcome to the wonderful world of beta flashing!

You can always recognise a beta flasher by their, to qoute Rhys Ifans in the film Notting Hill, "nice, firm, buttocks".

This is because beta flashers spend most of their time clenching and un-clenching their buttocks when trying a new ROM, kernel or app.

Yeah, got it without the explanation :D:D:D

My app drawer still isn't completely smooth and battery stats are awful but that could be down to the wiping, flashing and the fact I haven't done the full charge/remove 2 mins/replace procedure yet.

I would have wiped it, but can't find anything else this recent and I hate stepping backwards.

Yep, I have the cleaner on my internal sd and have been running it before flashing.

I'm sure you're right about not needing to calibrate the battery for kernels... the thing is, even though I did remove/replace after flashing CRR 3.1.1, I haven't managed to do a full cycle yet without rebooting to flash all these kernel updates :D.

Heck I can't really complain though, lost track of the number of ROMs, kernels, utilities and mods I've flashed since getting my s2... and only 1 buttock clencher so far...didn't even back up my efs 'til ROM 8 or 9!

:D

think i'll stick with beta6 for a while then, unless there's a whole load of you start raving about this one. i've flashed enough siyah betas and speedmod tests over the past few weeks to last a lifetime, and keep going back to beta 6

what does the rc bit stand for btw
