Help My new Droid Bionic is dead!

Wont power on at all even after I charged it all night. They said they are sending me a new one but im a little worried cus I rooted it last week. If it wont power on will they inspect it further?
I wouldn't worry. You'll have your new one before they get yours back. what are they going to do? send the police to snatch your new one out of your hands? :) relax!!!

We tried that at the Verizon store..they confirmed the battery worked but the phone was dead. I do have insurance I just dont want to pay the deductible since I bought the phone a few weeks ago. They said I wont have to pay anything but still worried about the root thing when they inspect it.

Thats good to know. Thanks...besides it wont even turn on so if they cant boot it how can they find out its rooted. they even put a fresh battery in it from a new phone and it wouldn't boot either. Also, they said im only getting the phone not the battery and SD card. Will I run into any problems using the old SD card in my new phone?

Most of their sales representatives or support technicians probably don't even know what root is, lol.

why would you think that? its our job to know. and besides its not the v staff its motorola who gets the device and trouble shoots it. then they inform big red if there was anything wrong with the device or damage. if you came to me and said its factory then i can care less. its your money.

In the interests of not starting a new thread, I would simply like to add that my Bionic did what the OP's did (i.e. not power on after charging) although I am not rooted.

Can also add that the phone: (a) was attached to the charger when the death occurred; and (b) rebooted itself first.

Seriously. I heard the reboot animation going, so I walked over to see what it was doing. It went "ding" twice (as it usually does, when getting the SD card ready) so I didn't pay it much attention. Thereafter: death. Would not power on. Swapped batteries. Still death.

I was within the Costco 90-day replacement period, but they wanted me to bring everything back to them to do a refund and new sale -- I chose instead to call Verizon and get them to ship me a new phone (but I keep my SD card and memory card, etc.). Verizon CSR was very entertaining, as she realized there wasn't a whole lot of troubleshooting she could do when the phone was dead.

The reason I'm here is that she said she's had a reasonable amount of calls on the Bionic, but never this particular problem. Am wondering exactly how unusual this is -- clearly both me and the OP had it.

She also said the replacement will come with a 90-day warranty (whereas the original was one year). As the original couldn't even make it 60 days, am wondering if I should invest in Verizon's protection plan. Are these things prone to dropping dead?

There isn't a huge crowd of people having these issues or at least the ones that are reporting it. You're probably the 3rd person I've read that had a dead Bionic. First one was a guy using his phone and it died on him while on a call. The OP here is the 2nd and yours is the 3rd. May be more but I haven't see any posts or missed them. The 3 of you most likely got the bad batch and it seems pretty small. Unless others can chime in on the same issue.

Bad chargers killing Bionics? Just speculating. Maybe Motorola has some kind of hidden program that kills your phone so you can go buy the new Razr. LOL. Idk. Kinda clueless but I guess we'll find out more when more people start reporting dead Bionics. Also post what it was doing prior to dying like plugged into wall or talking on the phone etc...

I know there are reports of bad batteries in other threads. Wondering if these batteries may be the culprits as to killing the phones? Idk. More speculation.

Even a new battery would not turn on my dead Bionic. Then they sent me a replacement that was suppose to be "like new" and I am here to tell you it wasn't! The store manager agreed and said if the one I receive tomorrow has any problems that he will give me a new one. I am currently not happy with the Bionic. Ever since I got it, I have had to pull the battery, then it quit all together. I hope these are the last problems.

I was told I'd get a "like new" replacement ("which will most likely be new anyway") but haven't received it yet due to a screw up at VZW. (They offered to credit me ... no joke ... $5.33 for the days I'm without my phone.)

As to the warranty issue, the (second) tech support rep agreed that I'd have the remainder of my one year on the new phone. (Whenever I get it. Any day now.)

I certainly hope the problem is not with the charger, as I'll be plugging the new phone right into the same charger.

Query to the others with dead Bionics: mine was from Costco. Any chance the other dead ones were all part of the Costco lot?

Totally off topic, but why didn't you exchange it at costco?
