Root [UPDATED 28/12 - NEW INSTALLER] CyanogenMod 7/Android 2.3.4 Is avaliable for GT540!

Upvote 0
I have an GT540 from carphone warehouse that I have rooted with z4root.

Is it possible to put my the CyanoganMod ROM onto my phone via ROM Manager without having to do any complicated KDZ updaters for carphone warehouse phone?

If I try it will it brick me?

Cheers.

No you can't, because this version of CyanogenMod was unofficially ported by another developer, it doesn't have ROM Manager support. Sorry! The process is really straightforward, don't let the quite chunky text put you off. (I'll get some simpler instructions written soon!)

There's always a chance of bricking your phone, but the chances are low, as long as you follow the instructions exactly as they say.

I am just unsure of the results of things tho...
If I flash to the carphonewarehouse KDZ to enable fastboot - will that wipe my phone as I want to have clockworkmod make a ROM of my current phone so I can go back to it if I need it.

My hesitation though is that putting that carphone warehouse KDZ with fast boot on the phone will factory reset the phone and I will have to way to back it up as my own personal ROM first?

Is that right please?
Thank you so much.

Yeah it'll wipe your phone. So if you root it with z4root, then install MyBackup Root from the Market, you can backup all your data, and restore it when you install CM.

Ok many thanks dudeman1996

I have already backed up my just with MyBackup Root so have that safe.

So I flash the carphonewarehouse KDZ to enable fast booting...

then I try and flash clockworkmod onto the phone - what version is best as I have heard 2.5 is the one to use although I have downlaoded versions 3 & 4.

Then I am free restore my settings from Mybackup root and make a ROM of my own system before I atempt cyanogenMod - is that right?

Thanks so much again!

Always use the latest version of ClockworkMod Recovery, you'll run into errors when updating CM if you don't.

If you've already installed the fastboot kdz, there's no need to make a backup of your ROM, you can always just flash the kdz again to get back to it, then restore the MyBackup.

You can just flash CM now, and then restore your data :)

Thanks againa dude, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me.
I am gonna have a think tonight about all this as I am terrified of bricking my phone.
I would love the ability to try out cyanogenMod and be able to switch back to an original but have read so much about problems, bootloops and bricking that - well - I am bricking myself. lol

Gonna have a read through all your tutorials again you clever dude and see if I can get the guts to try all this.

Cheers.

That's exactly how I felt about doing it the first time too. And the first time, I bricked my phone cause my laptop crashed while the KDZ updater was doing it's thing. But I managed to fix it; it's pretty hard to actually brick the phone to the point where it won't turn on. And if that does happen you can just take it back to wherever you got it and tell them you tried to update to 2.1 through LG and it's just not working ;)

When you plug in your phone, the Found New Hardware wizard should come up, then you select manually search for drivers, and choose the location of the WinXP drivers.

It doesn't... Probably it's because I have installed the other drivers earlier, or it's something else... Still need help. :(

Uninstalled and installed everything related to lg already and still does't appear (the found new harware wizard).

JESUS.

Right so what step are you at where the PC won't get the drivers? Are you at the KDZ step? Or the fastboot step?
