Looks interesting for a couple seconds, but is it usable? It looks like it adds clutter without much function. I'm not a fan of all the flipping for the cover art, texts, etc.

I am the same way.

I know several people that love seeing cover art, and that is how they navigate through their music. For instance, in itunes, they set the cover art view (opposed to the list view).

I just seen no purpose in this. A list view is so much more convenient to me.

I'd love to see some cleaner styles like this: Windows Phone 7 Series hands-on and impressions (updated with video) -- Engadget

Of course I dont want WinMo and shudder at using IE, but the clean design look they managed here hits the nail on the head.

I'm quite impressed by what MS has pulled off w/ WinMo 7. This is the WinMo I always wanted back when I used WinMo. Hard to believe that UI is from MS.

Everything you're seeing in that vid would surely be possible w/ Android also.

im not so sure about it, seems very closed and dark. Its very similar to the zune. That look was good for the zune, but this is a phone, It needs to do much more, and needs to be done easily. All I see is odly aligned text and squares, the guy even says in the demo that its not customizable, and that it only runs one program at a time.

edit: yes, I did change the original post. This is now a poll, I want to see what home replacement people prefer. GO VOTE!

Looks pretty good, lets see the customization though...

TAT w/ customization equalling / improving upon Sweeter Home and then we'll talk.

The 3D stuff is pretty sweet but their sense of design and color is horrific. Giant rounded buttons everywhere with fluorescent pink and blue on everything ? wtf :)

Yeah, if that is the only colors I can go with I'll pass.

But its pretty :) , you dont like pretty thing?

Pretty only gets you so far. If I wanted pretty, I'd have bought an HTC phone, instead of the DROID....

I prefer function over form. That's why I have a Droid :)

Amen!

SHould be, and now that it has been revealed to the world, I am sure devs are gonna be hard at work improving the UI of 2.x builds of Android to immitate it, at the very least.

To each their own - the new WinMo looks sharp, razor sharp to me. It's like Windows 7 - Vista looked a lot sharper than XP, but Win7 blows them both away in terms of both UI aesthetics as well as functionality.

You're misunderstanding me. It's not that I want a WinMo phone, or even that exact design or those colors. And hells no I dont want the OS. I'm remarking on how well they managed a UI, graphic design style, and user experience that is cool, modern, professional and minimalistic. They use the squares and text to amazing effectiveness.

The best designs hint at a form, without actually presenting it to you. Think about how you are reading the text on this page. There are no visible lines under each line of text, yet your mind can happily perceive the suggestion of a line. That's what MS is doing here, and they are doing it amazingly well.

A well designed interface can communicate a lot with a little. The TAT guys are communicating very little with a lot. Less is more and all that, you know?.

They (Tat) have some really neat ideas (I especially like the "dialing" of the alarm clock), but they wrap it in the tackiest, ugliest graphics I've seen in awhile.

Granted much design is subjective, but to me the TAT stuff says "LOOK AT HOW IN YOUR FACE I AM" while the MS stuff says "we're only showing you what's important to you."

Anyways, think about it.
