Not inclined towards another HTC Phone

I'd be curious about others' reaction to this: Overall, I like the Dinc. But a few things are making me think that my next phone WON'T be an HTC:

1. The constant low space warning. The fact that HTC screwed up the setup of this phone and never fixed it makes me crazy. I have a phone with a huge amount of storage, and all I get is Low Space warnings.

2. The really, really sucky battery life. In hindsight, there is NO WAY this phone should've been released with such a tiny battery. Yes, it's slim and sexy, but I am really tired of the phone crapping out or needing to be recharged in the middle of the day. I am not such a heavy user.

3. The Thunderbolt debacle. The fact that HTC and Verizon released such a buggy phone and didn't do much about it worries me.

4. Sense UI getting less useful and maybe even a hinderance. With Android getting more polished (thinking Ice Cream Sandwich), the need for a customized UI and the desirability of a customized UI are getting much smaller. I do appreciate the better-than-stock Exchange integration, but hopefully that is either improved in ICS or available from third-party apps like Touchdown.

So what am I inclined towards? The Galaxy Nexus, if it's not too, too huge. Possibly an iPhone. I'd like something which has good battery life and is less of a hassle than the Incredible. I mean, it's hysterical that at first I was concerned about the fact that Android can't handle media playback the way an iPhone can. I could NEVER use this phone for media playback. The battery would last about 15 minutes.

As I said, I'd appreciate peoples' comments. Are you happy with HTC? Will you next phone be an HTC phone?

All day long I have been dealing with this update to the update fiasco and saying to myself "this is why I am not getting the Rezound". Looking forward to the either the Razr or GNex next month when I can upgrade.

Not sure what you're referring to here. The Battery life?

The only "Incredible only" mistake of which I'm aware is the allocation of memory that results in the "Low Space" message. And HTC may have avoided making that mistake with other phones, but they never fixed the Incredible.

Ahh my bad, that was supposed to say 1.

yes memory allocation is what i was talking about. there is literally NO way they could fix that short of replacing every single phone and completely re-doing the partitions... completely ticked me off as well but i understand why they cant fix it.

but i moved on so no problem for me anymore

You may be right that there's no way to fix the Incredibles, now that they're out, but it still doesn't really give me the warm-and-fuzzies when it comes to HTC design quality control. They make a mistake, the customer suffers for two years.

I have overall liked this phone, but I really question getting another HTC. Are you liking your Rezound?

I am loving it. And you are right, the partition size was a MAJOR mistake. But there was not much they could do other than try harder with theirt future phones.

In my eyes Rezound=Major win!

My first Android phone was a Droid X purchased on release day which if you want a problem-plagued phone and manufacturer, Motorola takes the cake. Don't even get me going about RIM!

The first of this year I switched to an Inc and have been completely happy since. I'll probably stay with it until HTC comes out with an LTE phone with a 3.7-4.0" screen (instead of the stupid gigantor phones everyone seems to be obsessed with making), or when there's an LTE iPhone. Regardless, I'll give HTC the first shot before anyone else due entirely to my satisfaction with the Inc.

I've never had the low memory problem, and the battery life has never been a major issue for me. I'm a huge Launcher Pro fan so I've never even really used Sense. Given the number of Inc's that were sold and the number still in use, the "problems" you read about on a forum like this are probably a tiny fraction of the user base and most likely not a wide-spread issue outside of power users.

Given the rush to get new products to the masses, problems are unavoidable for all manufacturers, but it seems to me that HTC seems to have the fewest problems compared to others. I also blame the Thunderbolt issues on VZW rushing to get their first LTE phone to market regardless of whether or not it was ready.

From what I've been reading, it sounds like ALL the phone manufacturers have problems with their updates. This is entirely subjective, of course, but at least based on the reports, it seems to me like Samsung has had more of these problems than others, and their problems seem to happen on both Android and WP7 phones.

Yes, the DInc's low space problem is annoying, but they did try to ameliorate it in the GB update somewhat. For something that is physically impossible to fix, I think they made a decent effort to make it better.

I'd be inclined toward the new Galaxy Nexus for its ICS, except that some reviews say build quality feels a bit cheap. And the first version of anything, even ICS, will always have some bumps that need smoothing over. So I'm willing to wait until a few more phones with ICS come out before trying to decide.

Since I rooted the phone and got.rid of dozens of apps I never actually used, this phone has been so solid.

Every phone I have bought had issues and the incredible issues are easily the simplest to deal with. My next phone most likely will be htc unless something blows me away. Rezound looks good but ill wait a while on it.

I've had two HTC phones, the Eris and the Dinc.
The Eris was a slow, underpowered phone with only decent battery life, that really needed to be rooted to make it fully usable - I loved it (go figure ). At the time I bought the Eris the only other Android phone out was the Moto Droid, which due to it's design (heavy brick) was completely out of the running once I played with one in the store.

The Dinc, in comparison to the Eris, is a powerhouse of a phone with a fabulous screen, and decent battery life. I've never had any problems with it including the dreaded low on space error, even though I've put some fairly large apps on it (I've got two different charting apps - Maps for boaters - which take up a LOT of space).
I rooted the Dinc early on just so that I could remove the annoying bloatware, but I never flashed a different ROM because the stock one never annoyed me enough to make me want to (unlike the Eris). The update failed for me, but I expected it to due to the fact the phone was rooted. The gang at XDA naturally came through with a OTA ROM and I flashed that, so I'm still on the stock ROM for the Dinc.

All of that said, I'd buy another HTC phone without a second thought. But if there is some other brand that catches my eye when it's time to update, well, off I go.

I'm not upset at all with HTC. The Eris was a good phone except for the processor, the Incredible was incredible for it's time. My only gripes with the incredible are the usb port placement, flimsy back and goofy internal storage limitations.

The only reason the Rezound is disappointing is that it doesn't break new ground and the lack of AMOLED screen.

1. This issue was unique to the Incredible and has not shown up on any device since. They cannot fix it because it requires re-partitioning the internal storage. An OTA cannot do this, and they're not going to recall every device ever sold to do it.

2. HTC has a habit of using settings that drain battery faster (Sense UI, larger screens, Snapdragon SOCs, etc.) in conjunction with smaller batteries than their competitors. This combination has always led to industry-worst battery life. I just moved to the SGS2 (international) and was astounded by the out of box battery life. If I were to treat it like I treated the Incredible, I might just get 5-6 days out of a charge!

3. This is becoming a serious issue for HTC. In the beginning, they released one global model (Magic for 2008, Hero for 2009, Desire for 2010) and based handsets around that, meaning that software support was largely unified. Now, they're releasing different phones left and right, and abandoning support ridiculously fast. The TB isn't even a year old and didn't make the official ICS list. It's not the hardware, as the Xperia Play uses the same base hardware but with less RAM, and that got confirmed as getting ICS. Samsung, a company notorious for slow updates, has really picked up the pace. They release an annual global model (SGS for 2010, SGS2 for 2011) and base all of their hardware variations off of that. This leads to outstanding software support for their primary handsets. Samsung has even said that they will evaluate porting ICS to the original SGS, but won't do that evaluation until they make enough progress on the SGS2 port. The original SGS is 18 months old right now.

4. Sense UI is the most comprehensive skin out there. Depending on your point of view, it's either invasive (if you like to customize), or it's the best out of box experience on an Android handset (if you like to use things stock or close to it). One thing I've noticed though is that their newer phones haven't gotten any more fluid. Their software consumes way too much in terms of resources. The web browser on my Incredible is more fluid in panning, scrolling, and zooming than the stock web browser on the Rezound. There is no excuse for this. My SGS2, by comparison, is as fluid as my wife's iPhone 4s in all aspects. Even she was shocked to see this from an Android phone. So I agree, Sense has gotten out of control and HTC needs to re-evaluate how it should work. ICS seems to make use of hardware acceleration for UI elements, so there is a good chance here that HTC's phones are going to go from the smoothest on the market (2010) to the most sluggish (2012).

Like you, I considered the Galaxy Nexus. However, the lack of expandable storage, and the GSM being only available in 16GB made it a no-go for me. The SGS2 seemed to offer me the ideal hardware, and the bootloader is unlocked. It's supported by CM and MIUI, but right now I'm stock and unrooted. TW isn't invasive. I found out that I didn't like the launcher, so I put in LPP, while still maintaining the smoothness of TW's hardware accelerated enhancements.

I can't say that I have any problems with my Incredible and I bought it a year old off Ebay. The battery life (after a month or two of getting used to life with a smartphone) Has been holding me 14 hours (Until I got the update, now I'm sitting pretty at 36 average) and I'm probably considered a heavy user.
I don't use sense, I have GoLauncher.
I didn't have any problem with any of the Gingerbread updates.
and I have never had the low memory problem (Hopefully I didn't just jinx myself)

The only gripe I have had with this phone is it has a tendancy every 2-3 months to refuse to load my memory card. Which is a simple fix- Copy files to computer-format card- replace files. Nothing major.

But, I also am a phone junky. I am looking for a new phone in the coming months...

I have no issues with the Inc at all. I have never had low space warnings and have always gotten 1-2 days on a single charge of the battery. I am by no means a power user. This phone is awesome for what I want a phone for. I use the navigation a lot, and for the web browsing I want to do, this phone works flawlessly. I actually just went to look at the Rezound today. All though it "looks" like a nice phone, it's just too big. The only phone that is getting my interest that is out right now is the iPhone4s... However, I just don't feel the iPhone4s is a valid upgrade worth a new 2 year contract from the Inc. There will always be bugs with updates. Heck even Apple and the iPhone have bugs when they release updates and they only make IOS for their own device. However given that... it is also one good thing about Apple. You get the latest updates all the time. Unlike all these Android devices that are abandoned after not even a year like the TB... I am hanging onto my Inc right now because I just don't see anything worth a 2 year contract yet. I would never by a Motorola phone, and haven't been real impressed with Samsung either. I am hoping my Inc doesn

My experience with the inc is mixed. Most of the cons have been mentioned already but in addition, I went through 3 phones in the early stages before I ended up with my current phone which has been a solid phone overall. I just feel like HTC has a few demons that follow many of their phones, hopefully the Rezound will be the turning point. I'm ready for something altogether different so I'm moving to the Gnex. Can't wait to get updates from Google, that should be refreshing. The Inc was a good phone though and i had a good run with it. It'll be one I remember.

But I was leery of getting another HTC phone because of the low data issue but after constant reading & being reassured that the low space problem was a one off, I will probably end up with the Rezound.

The Incredible was my 2nd HTC phone and I love the simple but stylish look of their phones, I just want the inside to be as beautiful as the outside

Well, to the OP. Here is my harrowing journey through what is known as...HTC

An htc droid eris was my first android phone. Loved it so much for the fact that it was android and i could finally get away from iphone and their ridiciulous cult mentality and then the lag. Oh, wow. The lag. I'll keep it brief but the droid eris was a POS that left a bitter taste in my mouth that i generalized htc with.

Then i went onto other phones that were samsung and motorola and such and saw that bugs and low quality wasn't a brand issue. It can happen anywhere! Samsungs phones felt cheap, the ui sucked balls and they didn't care enough to grace us with updates. How crappy. Then motorola, that awesome build quality at first turned to "Why is my droid 2 creaking so much and the capacitive buttons only work when they want?".

Then i came back to the thunderbolt. Oh what a time to come back to htc. Bugs bugs and more bugs. Bitter taste yada yada fast forward to a couple months into my ownership of the bolt and wow. The bugs are all fixed and this phone is pretty decent. Ain't that something?

Now i have a rezound and it's hands down the best phone i've ever experienced in my life. And i've played with everything from the galaxy s2 line to moto's series of phones. There's no topping this. And from this i came to the realization that with my first phone, the droid eris that left a bad taste in my mouth, i bought a phone that wasn't meant to be good and expected greatness. It was a phone stuck in the low-end model spectrum that was outdated the day it came out and i generalized my experience to be "This is htc's fault! Screw them!".

It took years of hopping back and forth from brand to brand to realize: none of this makes any sense. You need to judge phones on a case by case basic and understand what you're getting yourself into. HTC generally have high build quality and provide great customer service/updates. After all this, i know htc is a good company. I just bought a crappy phone and wanted someone to blame.

Your inc is dated. It's not an htc problem, it's dated. And if you're looking for good battery life, you won't find it on anything. Battery tech is pathetic right now and if you're getting a 4g anything, it'll suck

I am personally impressed by HTC and will only get another phone they make. It might have had it's issues (battery life, disk space error, etc) but in my experience it is 10x better than any Motorola or LG phone I've had with much bigger issues. Battery life it seems like is an issue with everyone new phone, look at the iPhone 4S. And the disk space I've found on the internet how to resolve and once I rooted got rid of all together.

I understand some frustrations but you need to really consider how much of an issue your problems are or maybe they are just minor annoyances.

Also until HTC changes their design, its just more of the same. Plus they seem to be getting fat, heavy, and power inefficient starting with thunderbolt.

If HTC does not start to change up their design, they will start heading way of bb.

Rezound is leaps and bounds above Tbolt fwiw
