Okay, I downloaded a program called "Titanium Backup" from the Android store to try out. I can't get it to work!? So I went to the developers site for help.

Titanium Backup

Near the bottom of the site is a step to "check if your phone is properly rooted". When I su in using "Better Terminal" and type whoami, it returns "whoami: unknown uid 10034". They say it should return "whoami: unknown uid 0"

Questions: Are we not properly rooted? Does anyone else get uid 10034, or is it just me? Is any one else using "Titanium Backup"? I have the Galaxy rom on my BH2 and my version of Busybox is 1.15.1. The developer suggests upgrading to Busybox 1.15.3.

WOW, 58 views of this thread and not one rooted person can type su whoami in there phones terminal to see if they get the same response I did? Or maybe this is just a dumb question on my part? Maybe "whoami: unknown uid 10034" means we're all rooted properly?

Sorry man, maybe a lot are like me and can't help b/c we're not rooted... If I see anything in this forum that I don't understand from the subject, I read it to find out.

I spent quite a bit of time with developer on this. While the phone may be rooted it will not work because we are not running all the custom pieces. It appears because we are missing the "superuser whitelist" app it will not work with titanium.

I found various versions of the app and installed them but still could not get it to work.

My N1 with the cryogen rom has this app and titanium works just fine on that phone.

I think we just need to wait for truly custom ROM to show up for the Behold 2.

Hey guys,

I know that it is a kind of a thread revival but I just want to clear things up so everyone finding this thread knows what whoami really is.

The whoami command just checks what user you are. In UNIX every user has a unique userid. Whois basically checks the userid which invoked it, reads the /etc/passwd file and prints to which username the uid belongs.

Since on an android device there is no passwd file, whoami can't show you the username assigned to the uid found by it.

The userid (uid) of the root user on any UNIX system is always 0. Hence if whoami prints another userid than 0 you may assume that you are not logged in with the root user.

I hope I could help you guys a bit. ;)
