The Rezound display is LCD with no pentile subpixels. GNex has pentile subpixel arrangement in SAMOLED tech. Both are 720p resolution.

The Rezound display will show more accurate colors and have less banding in some areas, along with generally sharper text. The GNex will have unmatched contrast, albeit with less color accuracy (produces a vibrant display that most perfer). It should also be more visible outdoors. Although at HD resolutions, any such differences should be fairly minor.

All else equal, I'd have to honestly say I'd prefer the display tech on the Rezound. Not even the tiniest decision maker, by any means. But if I did have my choice......I would most likely pick LCD.

I'm on the fence in regards to more vibrant displays -- it's a huge problem for watching movies. Theres an article I can't seem to find again which shows how Inception was SUPPOSED to look and did look in theaters vs how most HD TVs make it look. It's awful what overly vivid screens do to most movies. Everything looks like Transformers - in a bad way. If the Razr had a form factor I liked, was vanilla and ICS, there would be no contest. I would take the more accurate colors hands down... but then again, I do make movies for a living ;) so I'm picky!

Edit: Oh but I meant to say I do like it being extra vivid for games and general phone use.

Oddly I agree with most of your observations but come to a different conclusion. In theory Rezound should be way sharper, but it's hard for me to believe that many people will be able to perceive any difference. Same w/banding.

I think I'll probably prefer the GNex' display because of contrast and saturation, but still expect to be very happy w/Rez' LCD.

Galaxy Nexus Unboxing - Opening up the Future - YouTube
Just thought I'd post it, I love Jon's unboxings, and considering he's a pretty big Apple fan it's nice to see him so excited about where Android is going.

Thanks for the vid... but I have to admit its sad that more than 2 weeks after this phone has been released in the rest of the world.... we're still watching unboxing videos and hoping VZW throws us scrap of info (release date / specs):eek::(

+1

I've owned plenty of smartphones in my short life, even since before they were called "smartphones". The screen improved on each new model I got. Every single one was LCD.

I then got the Samsung Vibrant with the S-AMOLED screen. It blew me away. Blacks are true black, meaning the pixels aren't even on/use no energy when displaying black. Colors pop. Even comparing the iPhone 4 Retina display with my dinky 800x480 res screen, I preferred the Galaxy S by leaps and bounds, even when I factored in that it was pentile. And now it's available in 720p?! Amazing.

PenTile isn't even a factor anymore at this high of resolution. No reviews I have read on the GNex mentioned anything bad about the display. None even mentioned PenTile, except if it was to say that while the screen is PenTile, the resolution is so high that you can't even tell anymore. And there were a few reviews that favored the GNex screen over the ReZound.

While it will mostly come down to personal choice, my choice is the AMOLED.

I'd like to point out that the CNET Nexus review is a hot mess (using one of their own lines against them). If you notice, two people actually wrote the review, which figures because when I read it, it sounded like either two people wrote it, or someone with a split personality wrote it. "ICS is an awesome, much needed facelift, but then again it's not....the camera quality could be better, but it still is among the best...".

Kent German, one of the reviewers, is one of the biggest Apple cheerleaders on the site. Look up his blogs. When the Hong Kong event was postponed, he wrote a long rant saying how Samsung and Google is hiding something from us, he speculated that the phone had big problems and that Google/Samsung couldn't possibly be respectful enough to postpone the event due to the passing of Steve Jobs. It was a pathetic blog that was just one man's opinion with 0 facts to back it up, but presented in a way where it was a fact piece and not an opinion piece.

CNET will never claim another phone to be better than the latest iPhone, even if it is clearly better. On Android device reviews, they focus a lot of energy and writing on the negative aspects, often blowing up small issues and exaggerating them to the point where they make the phone seem awful, and then just lightly touch on what the phone does right. The result is mostly negative reviews.

I admit, I still go to CNET sometimes, and I do enjoy their Android podcast because the hosts are awesome, albeit they are a bit slower to churn out news and don't always mention the latest. But anything they say should be taken with a grain of salt as their journalistic integrity in the tech world has been compromised over the last few years.

It is good to take the people behind the reviews into account. You are exactly right, and to add to the eyefone lovers, there are several others in the mobile tech dept that love their eyephones. Even if they do have to review android as well, the personal preference goes to fruit phone.

Sad is the right word. And we have almost two more weeks by the best information.
