***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I will be honest, the thing about the Vigor ;) that bothers me the most, is we have no idea how Sense is going to be implemented with ICS. What if it takes away from it, and is actually worse than gingerbread.

Anything's possible.

At minimum, I'm looking forward to the kernel improvements as well as Dalvik engine improvements for Sense. Those alone will have to improve performance.

Anything else is the Nexus Thread Battlecry - we'll have to wait and see.

I'm no hater on HTC, I love my Incredible, but I'm honestly expecting HTC to destroy ICS with Sense. It'll most likely have a sluggish overlay just like with their other phones.

I half expect it to look identical to the GB version of Sense considering HTC's lackluster phones recently.

Then again, that's just my 2 cents.

That is what made me back off more than anything. I gave been running CyanogenMod Gingerbread for almost a year between the OG DInc and the DInc 2 because of Sense's sluggish, meandering, excuse for Android. Granted, some people love Sense and I have no issues with that; not my cup of coffee.

I am by no means tired of hacking my phone to meet my needs, I just want the pure Android experience before I hack. CyanogenMod has always been there for me and I am sure I will give it a whirl when it is close to stable for ICS.

Glad to still be here. :)

Does Sense actually slow the phone down? Is there some sort of consensus on that.

During my brief period with the DInc, I didn't find it to be laggy at all, even if there were a bunch of services running. The biggest issue with Sense that I knew of was the battery life that got killed from all the background services and eye candy. Although I know that some have claimed some signifigant speed boosts after removing Sense altogether.

I'm starting to feel like the Nexus is going to end up like one of those seriously over hyped blockbuster movies. It's so hyped that when it finally comes out it's like....meh.

Unfortunately, this will be true for many.

Even if it is the absolute best phone in the world, it's still going to be hard to meet everyone's expectations.

I don't know. Don't you think the RAZR more resembles this than the GNex? Advertised to death by VZW, but by some accounts hasn't sold very well.

So who's going naked?

Without a case that is. :D

After a few days of ownership of my DX, I dropped it onto concrete and dented the corner. I was so infuriated that I went right out and bought a case because I couldn't stand looking at the dent on my new phone. But after a few weeks with the case, I just couldn't do it anymore, and had to take the case off.

However, I will be using a screen protector. Steinheil Crystal Clear. Hardly even know it's there.

I don't like the RAZR but the Rezound is actually a nice phone. I've thought about just getting that and skipping the Nexus. I have two more upgrades in the next 6 months. By that time there will probably be a phone available that's better than the Nexus. Kind of getting tired of waiting for something that might not be all it's cracked up to be. Just my opinion.

I had my DInc for close to... a year before rooting it and doing away with Sense. Seeing as it was my first Android phone, I didn't know any better.

It was noticeably slow and after putting Cyanogenmod onto my DInc, I never looked back to Sense. As you stated, there was a significant speed boost after dropping Sense. And there's been no real long-term lag effects either.

I treat my phone like a child, and as a result I luckily haven't had any accidents while I've had smartphones :) Thus, I can use it naked and not have to worry :D

I never had any problem with my Incredible but the past week my Thunderbolt has had some issues, seems like sense has to restart after every time I exit the browser. But I would say that is the exception, not the rule.

I'm guessing that Sense would look similar to what it does on the HTC Jetstream. That may give the best idea as it is a Sense-skinned Honeycomb tablet.

Yes and no.

Yes in the browser, app drawer, and some other places I can't remember. I was able to get Vigor to lag today while in the market swiping pages. My CyanogenMod DInc 2 was just about on par but we are talking Gingerbread, not potentially speed enhanced (read: dual-core optimization) ICS.

No on homescreens, and in the case of the Vigor, in carousel: no lag. But I expected that from Sense; the homescreen is its baby.

Lastly, battery is bad with Sense (DInc and DInc 2). I haven't tested the Vigor but, with Sense running in the background, no way it beats the Nexus!

My experience and humble opinion.

It's a different story on a dual core phone running Sense 3. Most people have run Sense 1.0 on a single core phone with a known caching problem and too little ram, or Sense 2 on a phone with too many other issues to count.

Dual core, 1.5 GHz, 1 GB of ram - it literally screams.

The Sense experience of many Verizon users is simply not the Sense experience the rest of the world sees. I understand the frustrations and they're valid - for their day and for the carrier mods pertinent at the time. (I still can't believe that Bolt owners had to wait for GB based on "quality testing" only to be given a mismatched Evo rom. SHM, srsly.)

That said, I think any of us pointing this sort of thing out are simply given a knowing smile and then the false claims tend to persist.

Sense 3 on a dual core being equivalent to Sense 1 on an old phone is a meme that's just too fun to die.

Meanwhile, new Rezound owners finding out what the rest of us have experienced for half a year are being pleasantly blown away.

As I say, if you don't like Sense, just go with another phone - if you do like it, there's no need to think you'll be penalized today on a better phone.

Sense is a large software stack. So is ICS. ICS =/= GB.

Android services have always wanted more CPU horsepower to run well.

Large software stacks - ditto.

The only thing I miss about Sense is the dialer. I hate not being able to just type in the first few letters of someone's name and having it pull up their number. Scrolling through the letter to get to my brother "Zach" is really annoying.

Unless I am missing an easier way to do this in CyanogenMod7?

Favorite feature about Sense for me too.

Rooting a DInc is so easy, I was intimidated at first but with Unr3voked it's seriously like "download this, click this, wait..."
