The esteem that was loaned to me for dev work died. At first I thought the battery just died as I had it in recovery or bootloader most of that day. Well after buying a universal charger, charging the battery etc, it will still not turn on at all. I'll tired every solution I have found to no avail.

So if anyone has any ideas on how to fix this phone so I can continue dev'ing for the esteem plz post up.

Whats sad is I think I abut had CWM figured out for the esteem when it died. :(

Man I hope you had it figured out :D
That's too bad about the phone. You probably already tried taking the battery out and popping it back in and holding the power on for a while right?

Can you describe what it does? does the backlight turn on?

another thing to try is, pulling the battery and press and hold the power button for 15 to 30 seconds to discharge any phone power that may still be in the phone and try it again.

damn that sucks, maybe you can get someone esle with a esteem, and switch batteries, to see if it truly is the battery or the phone

just a thought
tried everything and it does nadda, as in nothing at all, no lights, no nothing, completely dead.

Its owner had it replaced on warranty when he had it bricked and got it fixed after he got his new one.

Really sux too as I think once I do a graphics.c for recovery, CWM should work.

Just out of curiosity what was the last thing you did before it died? Because even if the recovery partition was flashed it should still boot ok since it's another partition alltogether. At the very least the backlight should come on if it's not a hardware issue. Also is the recovery that you were trying, booting off of an sdcard (is that the first thing in the boot order? :D)

Also how were you flashing it? using dd ?

I found this, not sure if it might help with the graphics.c

I work with CWM, so it was flashed over the stock recovery. I was trying to restore the phone back to stock when it died. And no I never try to boot anything from the sdcard on a phone.

And I agree a broke recovery shouldnt stop a phone from booting into the main OS, but I seen strange things with some of these phones.

Try that. If it doesn't work I'm sure we can find 25 people to PayPal you 10 bucks. Or we could paypal someone 80 bucks and have them call in their insurance and send the extra phone to you.

I'm curious what phone do you use as your main personal phone?
If you are going to use the esteem it will be better for us to send money for you to buy a new one.

I'm pretty sure the phone PG has can't be replaced because a replacement phone was already given for it. This means they would have already catalogued it as such.

From the discussions I and others have had with PG about it, I'm assuming the phone itself is toast. Other than trying an alternate battery (which I don't know if he has been able to do or not), I'm thinking there's not really anything else that can be done. I know he's literally tried every suggestion that's been thrown up in this thread so far with regard to troubleshooting, and several others that have not been mentioned.

The Esteem I have is blacklisted as it was replaced, so its only good for dev work or flashing to another carrier (if it ever powers on again), and AFAIK cant be replaced again. ;)

My main phone is a flashed over to Cricket Droid X :D, so I just need an esteem to dev with and can get testers to test mms, data, etc when I get something going.

Are we going to have to follow these step or similar ones to get it on the Esteem when it complete? Or can you make it easy on us? Ahaha Please say "easier" :D ALOT of people are going to have problems having to follow those ahaha Probably including myself ahahaha
