***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I'll concede that point. Still, in the grand scheme, it's paltry to how much money they make off of each subscriber per year.

But it defeats your entire argument. The main thing VZW cares about is the service plan, and it's in their interest to push whatever phone secures that plan and also brings in bloatware revenue. That means RAZR or Rezound and not GNex.

Also, for those of you that discount the idea that the Nexus could have had a name change at this stage of the game due to all of the boxing and packaging already being made and the first round of phones already being shipped. Don't forget that they did it to the Incredible.

This was the ORIGINAL box early adopters like me got:

And THIS is the box that the next round got:

FULL name change and packaging change AFTER launch.

I guess I wasn't an early enough adopter. I had to order mine and wait almost a month because it was on back order. I'm just glad I have the AMOLED screen and not the SLCD screen. I'm hoping the same thing doesn't happen with this phone.

if true, it is hard to believe they had an issue with Samsung using "Nexus Prime" but didn't have one with Asus using "Transformer Prime".
Transformer Prime isn't the name of a character, but I bet Hasbro could have made a case out of that if they wanted to. I'm guessing Asus paid Hasbro. Maybe Samsung decided it was better to just change the name rather than pay for using "Nexus Prime." Or, maybe the name was changed for another reason entirely. Who knows?

agreed. contracts being equal for all 3 phones, they still have a vested interest in selling more of a phone they are being paid to bloat up (Razr, Rezound) over one they are not making that money off of (GNex).

Cool. I played Euphonium back in high school for symphonic concerts along with a beater baritone horn in marching band. :p

Ah hahahahhaa!

Note to self - when right-clicking for spelling help, read, do not choose word at top of list.

Thanks for the catch, compadre!

I totally have no excuse but may not stop laughing at myself for some time. Well - I'm in good company! :D :D

I thought I would share with everyone an experience I just had two minutes ago! I had the Verizon rep call me who was appointed to me by the Verizon exec office I emailed. Needles to say, with all the pre-order rumors, I was very excited!!! Especially knowing midnight Eastern time was just about to hit.

After a quick conversation, she tells me no release yet, and just a follow up call. She scheduled another call for the beginning of the second week of December!!! GRRR!!!! Why me! I was hoping for it too when I saw the caller ID!!!

Clarification: The rep who called me is not a local store person, is not a CSR, and is someone from the exec's office.

How does verizon make money off of bloatware. Do they preload the phones with their own freemium apps or something?
Companies pay money to get thier apps pre-loaded onto a phone, in the hopes that users will continue to pay to use those services.

Some examples:
City ID
Game trial (enter game of choice, Madden NFL, Need for Speed, etc)
Blockbuster

Those are 3rd party bloatware, of which Verizon adds thier own.
Backup assistant
My Verizon
VZ Navigator

I'd argue that I like backup assistant and my Verizon, so I don't mind them being there. My Verizon doesn't run in the background, and Backup Assistant runs a super minor process at night.

I have heard a reliable counterpoint that it's actually the manufacturers who get paid for the bloatware, and not Verizon. Honestly don't know the answer here.

I wonder if their worried that all the data usage control the GNex offers will mean they see less money just for the contract on that phone.

But isnt the nexus one phone that would really pull people from other networks because the previous two nexus models were never offered on verizon? And it has a software set that really sets its self apart from everything else out atm.

not doubting you, but weird that exec office people working at 11:30pm+ EST??? Even if she's West Coast - still late to be working, huh?

Yeah, that is what I thought the last time she called too. She called me just before the 11/21 supposed leak date as well, same time to say the same thing. I posted then about my disappointment as well (post #35043, November 18th, 2011 at 02:18 AM). I am truly bummed. I was looking forward to this, so I logged in to tell everyone else. I hope she is wrong, but I will keep holding onto the idea of waiting until 12/31/11. :(

Ohe yeah! We are both West coast. She works in the Western region office.

I was thinking the same thing. I have the number of the VZW rep that called me claiming to be with the Executive Offices. When I called him back, he answered the phone that way. I've often wondered if I called him from a different number if he would answer the phone the same way. In other words, I am wondering if it was just a CSR or if it was THE CSR. Anyone want the number to try it for yourself?

PM me and I will give it to you.

Regardless, it got me an extra $50.
