Tethering: The End Is Nigh

Well, we saw it coming earlier this year: http://androidforums.com/samsung-captivate/300602-tether-police-coming.html

Last night, I got the standard AT&T nastygram text message, informing me that tethering requires a tethering plan. A quick search found this: AT&T Cracking Down on MyWi Tethering?

Funny thing is that I tether very occasionally, like once every couple of months. I recently got a tablet and had it tethered for most of a day last week, so maybe that is what prompted the text message.

Anyway, bygones. I have 9 months left with AT&Greed before I fulfill my contract and jump ship for Sprint.

Have fun, with probably the worst customer service I've ever dealt with.

Hell, AT&T wiped out over $100 in charges off my bill yesterday. It was stuff, they could have easily told me no. Heck, I went into it, just trying to get back just under $80 and the rep, asked me to hold on while he dug a little deeper and he came up with about $30 more.

just out of curiousity, how are you tethering? are you running cyanogenmod or something like that? i wonder how they can tell that you are tethering

Usually when I tether, I use the hotspot enabled through Cyanogenmod. Honestly, I don't know if they can really trace it. They may have been responding to my 8+GB data from the month before (from streaming Netflix nonstop, not from tethering).
