Check out the LG Optimus Black review over at Engadget. The good looks are apparently only skin deep, as they were less than impressed overall, and saying there are better choices available.

LG Optimus Black review -- Engadget

Pretty comprehensive review of the phone's capabilities.
That being said...Well, sure there are better choices available--- Where?-- will I have coverage there? How much up-front ?, how much a month, and how long are the contract requirements?

Compared with "State of the Art", there are always better choices available, somewhere- as long as we are OK with the costs and choices necessary to make that "better choice."

I think it's safe to say that no one chose or will choose Virgin Mobile in order to have the choice of one or more "State of the Art" smart phones--
The question here is how much will it cost up front, what level of existing technology can I get, and then ( the order will vary by individual) what are the issues of customization/development community, build, reliability, manufacturer update history...

Here at VM, the possibly "better choices" have to start with what the choices are--currently, the Intercept-- still a better choice for those who require a physical keyboard, the V- better choice for those who can't afford to pay more than $150. Soon those choices will include the Triumph.

Personally, it will be at least several months before I'm in a position to even consider another phone purchase- at which point I'll have a lot more real world experience using the V to evaluate what, if any, real-world-for-me shortcomings I am experiencing, and there will be a lot more hands on use and history with the Triumph, and potentially, the Black.

Copy, paste, and replace (DOT) ^^^^^

If you look at the second phone from the top it is the GelatoQ (VM701)
I hope it won't cost too expensive because it sounds like a really good phone.
:)

The source of all this was the FCC. LG applied for certification for four variants of the Optimus Black: US855, LS855, AS855, and VM855. "VM" is LG's designation of a Virgin Mobile phone.

So we know that a Virgin Mobile Optimus Black version has gotten to the testing stage. But, given that Sprint is just now getting the Black, I would say it's unlikely that VM will get it before Christmas.

lol I hear ya!

I'm so tickled with my OpV that I don't think I'm going to upgrade this income tax check time. But I do love hearing about all the new stuff coming out!

I'm giving my V to my girlfriend so I have a reason to get a new phone >.> hehehe double motives! That way, it's not getting sold or neglected or anything and I still get a new phone lol

How does the Optimus Black compare to the Motorolla Triumph in your opinions?

OB seems to have much much better reviews. Sprint already has this phone, but is called the LG Marquee (for $99 bucks and seems to always be sold out on their site!).

Optimus Black is a GSM phone and will not work on Virgin Mobile. The U.S. versions, of which have been renamed and are offered by other mobile carriers, are CDMA.

Check out the LG Marquee review by Mobile Burn. It's a 14 minute vid. I think, if I were to ever consider changing phones, this might be the one I would go for.

I have owned both the Optimus V and the Motorla Triumph.

The LG Optimus V is a much more solid phone, while the Triumph sports more powerful specs.

There are a few issues on the Triumph.. but after flashing to Cyanogenmod 7 I am very pleased with it.

If I was to ever switch from the Triumph it would either have to be a phone with more powerful specs, or a phone with equal specs but with more solid hardware.. the Optimus Black is of the latter.

LG just makes a much better phone in my opinion. If the Black comes to VM I will probably switch from the Triumph.. but I would not switch to a phone with a slower processor.

Agreed. I will even go so far as to say that I think LG is just a solid company all the way around. I have a lot of LG products and they seem to last a pretty long time. Especially their gaming monitors.

I'm with you. If the Op Black ever came to VM, it's about the only phone that would cause me to pry my OpV out of my fingers.
