Ahh the good ole Eris those were (and still are for some) the good times amazing how it's dev community still has legs! :)

BTW, I'm still rocking my Droid Eris as well. Lil fella just won't quit, gotta love it.

i hate my eris. the response time is awful and the dialer particularly takes at least 20 seconds (often closer to a minute) to connect. i cannot wait to have a phone that responds to touch on the first try.

160 character count limit?

*edit* ninja'd, and you can tell how much of a twitter noob I am - it's 140 chars?

Actually, their message was well within 140 characters. Probably still done to save space, but they could have fit "first" instead of "1st", it's only 2 more chars and by my count their post was 136 characters:

Just noticed something that is a bit of a downer. On Verizon's trade in page, my Thunderbolt just dropped in value from $93 last week to $32 this week...

Although maybe it's a sign they are releasing the beast soon and don't want to give back a lot of money to all of us TB owners.

Why would you trade that in and get screwed by Verizon like that? Sell it on Craigslist or Ebay, you will get at least 200 for it I'm guessing....

Don't get me wrong, I understand the theory and why it's there.

However, I thought I saw from some experts why it wouldn't help much. And to further strengthen that argument, the GPS hardware in the RAZR, without barometer, gets a lock quicker than the GNex (according to P3 Droid).

So I understand the company line, just not buying it.

My understanding of the GPS issue was that Samsung has always used different GPS hardware than Moto and has had issues getting a good quick lock using their own hardware, the addition of the barometer was to give the third location access to achieve the location needed for a quicker lock.

Moto has always had great GPS but I always believed that was due to using their own hardware.

Fact is that the Nexus during testing has better GPS locks than in previous models and that is a good thing because I use GPS more than most for traveling rural roads.

Are you rooted? If so, which ROM? My phone was laggy, and I had that issue with the dialer, as well as texts. Even switching screens took forever, the phone was near useless. So, I rooted, figuring I had nothing to lose, and it has made a world of difference. Is it great? No, but it's more than acceptable at this point, especially considering that it's an Eris. It's obviously slower than anything out today, but will definitely get me through the next couple weeks.

I agree with you 100%. Anyone who roots or unlocks should definitely be comfortable with what they are doing. The only way to get there is to research the process. The best way to do that is read, read, ask questions, and then read some more. The best places to do that are in the "root" or "developer" sections of this forum and several others. The only bad question is the question that isn't asked... And believe me, if you have the question, it has been asked before - probably many times. If you can't find the answer by searching, then by all means ask.

From a dev standpoint -

Be careful asking "dumb" or "noob" questions on developer forums. If you are unsure of a process, please read and use the search button as much as possible. Some forums are kinder to 'noobs' than others, so just be aware. If you are berated for asking a 'dumb' question, chances are it has been answered numerous times.

This thread is very friendly/lovable and all, but devs generally dont have time to answer the difference between root and unlock bootloaders when they're looking for issues in their software.

I'm trying not to sound like the "get off my lawn" guy, but we all know the feeling of 'that guy' who comes in and askes the question that the first sticky post answers. The search button is your friend!

Cheers Nexusers.

FWIW, it looks like a SIRF chipset, which (for the garmin field units at least) have been fantastically good under tree cover/cities, etc. I use a SIRF3 chipset garmin 60cx for geocaching, and hiking under very dense tree cover in northern wisconsin, it's extremeley accuarte and fast. not sure about this particular SIRF chip, nor am I familier with what samsung has used in the past

Ive seen more proof that Nexus will be out on the 8th. Just saying ;)

1 hour agovia issimo for Android

I asked what type of proof...

Oh please, oh please, oh please...my dinc took a swim last night and I'm in w/d already without a smartphone! Even if I can dig up an old feature phone, it's going to be an even longer wait for the nexus than it was when I had a working phone :(

I have decided to add the GNex release to my calendar for the 8th. Every other thing I have written on that calendar (birthdays, holidays, appts. etc) has happened on schedule. I don't know why I didn't think of this before! ;):D

I've never rooted my phones either. I think I'll start with this one.

I was going to play with it for a while before I rooted, but I'm thinking this is how it might go now:

Step 1: Open the Box
Step 2: Charge Nexus
Step 3: Root Nexus
Step 4: Remove MyVerizon & VZW Backup

To each his own and good luck with that but.......

Step 1: Good one.
Step 2: Better.
Step 3: Without a test flight trial period, you have more cash to play with than I do.
Step 4: The only two bloats in history that are somewhat useful.

  • My Verizon = Fast access to account usage details and features on the fly. Basically a fancy shortcut.
  • VZW Backup = If you don't have 3 backup copies of your data and at least one of them off site you don't have a backup. I'll take it and give it a whirl.

I am not going to state sources due to the recent credibility questions and such from everyone and I'm not allowed to state who they are either but I can gaurentee everyone will see this phone for sale before December 13th. It will be LTE, 32GB model, 1850Mah battery, coming with OS version 4.0.2. The most critical bugs have already been fixed and price will be $299 on contract and a little over $600 off contract. Verizon will make the annoucement the day of the sale and there will not as much marketing with this phone as with the Droid RAZR and HTC Rezound.

I cannot state anymore than this so everyone please take this as you will. I hope this information proves useful to some of you.

I cannot believe or perhaps understand why all the thanks are given to this post for an obvious synopsis taken from all the posts in this mega thread.
Its gotta be satire correct? A joke? I don't get it? My first reaction was Duh! No Chit Sherlock!

If it is like the Verizon signup systems of the past, you will read it here 1st and possibly get the message on your new Nexus as you hold it in your proud hands.

My avatar says it all for me until I get the device. Then I'll change it back.

Still loving this whole thing being I have been putting back cash for it and almost have enough saved for two of them outright.

We Trudge onward.............

I'd be glad to, 3.5" or 2.5", how much storage space do you need and how many RPMs? SSD?:D

lol.. Well I'm building a new Rig..

I already have a 120 gig SSD for OS and Programs but the HDDs went from $50 to $150 it's so frustrating!

I don't think prices are going to drop until late spring.

I had the $40 1 TBs sitting in my wishlist on newegg... 1 month later $169..

Sad season for rig builders! But I did get a sweet deal on my Intel SSD.

LOL@you guys that think this tweet is anymore than them trying to get people to stop asking them about it. People are just hoping something gets said so badly that they are basically making up things at this point. Maybe 1st means something! This isn't LOST people.

If it was LOST, it would have been released on 08/15 at 4:16 with a pre-order period of 109 minutes.
