***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I could be wrong, but I believe the extended holiday return policy EXCLUDES the iPhone.

I'd suggest you check on that unless you want to be stuck with an iPhone.

Saw your reply and decided to call VZW again. Spoke with a different CSR (obviously) and she said the Holiday Return Policy covers ALL phones and tablets. She said it also makes no difference that I purchased online, return process is the same i.e. take phone to store, pay restocking fee, walk out with Nexus.

Before hanging up I asked if there was release date updates. She laughed, said no news.

Step 4: The only two bloats in history that are somewhat useful.

  • VZW Backup = If you don't have 3 backup copies of your data and at least one of them off site you don't have a backup. I'll take it and give it a whirl.

Others might have a different experience, but I'd avoid Backup Assistant. On my girlfriend's Droid X, it tried to take over storage of her contacts and fought a bitter battle with the vastly superior Google Contacts sync. No good came of it.

Regarding britishturbo, his tweets sure would be nice to believe...pardon my ignorance, but has he been right about anything else before?

This thread is very friendly/lovable and all, but devs generally dont have time to answer the difference between root and unlock bootloaders when they're looking for issues in their software.

I'm trying not to sound like the "get off my lawn" guy, but we all know the feeling of 'that guy' who comes in and askes the question that the first sticky post answers. The search button is your friend!

Cheers Nexusers.

The ONE SINGLE THING I LOVE the most about this place is the LACK OF the "Use The Search Police!!!!!

Too many forums are rought with these kind of rude replies and I have yet to see a hint of it here until today.

There seems to be a fantastic "good people" to "use the search police" ratio on this board than any other board I am a member of and they are many.

If I see a post that some poor soul needed to, or should have used the search for and do not feel like doing it for him and providing the link I just move on allowing him to perhaps figure it out avoiding the added clutter the "Use The Search" post would have added anyway.

To me seeing the UTS police just gives the forum a bad taste in its mouth.

I'm glad you brought up the barometer. I've been meaning to get the feedback of the community on this one.

What benefit is a barometer on a phone to me? I can't imagine using it. I don't predict the weather, I have Weatherbug for that.

When I first heard about the barometer being on the Gnex I was like AWESOME! Then I was like really? Now I'm like meh.

I know there has been lots of posts about the barometer. My Garmin 76CSx has a barometric altimeter. Cant have one of those without a barometric sensor. They have to be calibrated due to atmospheric pressure changes and are still only so accurate. They may not be exact, but they are a good guideline. All things being equal, a a vertical change of only a few feet is detected. If it reads that I am at 900 feet above sea level, I might actually be at 902 or 910 or 870, I donno exactly how accurate it is, but I know I am not at 700 feet.

So, I see this inclusion as another tool for developers to use for various features in app, including 3d maps, topo maps, hiking, cycle riding, and who know what all.

Altimeter - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

One relevant paragraph...

" Use in hiking and climbing

A barometric altimeter, used along with a topographic map, can help to verify one's location. It is more reliable, and often more accurate, than a GPS receiver for measuring altitude; GPS altimeters may be unavailable, for example, when one is deep in a canyon, or may give wildly inaccurate altitudes when all available satellites are near the horizon. Because the barometric pressure changes with the weather, hikers must periodically recalibrate their altimeters when they reach a known altitude, such as a trail junction or peak marked on a topographical map. "

Just a glimpse of maybe why a barometer.

i prefer to just use the search function myself and link them to the results. this shows them that searching was the best option, but still helps them out in the mean time. ;)

I will say that I have this issue. If I pause music. It will hiss for for a couple seconds, or in really low voume music, I will hear the interference. I also don't really like how it "improves" the bass. I use it in my car, and the bass comes out as muddled when I had no problem with my Dinc.

A couple other small issues i have. I really dislike how "flush" the power and volume buttons are, very hard to use at times. I dislike the small ridge that is around the screen (the rubber gasket on the screen), and the screen seems more smudgy than the SGSII that I used for a while.

None of these are huge issues, but I definitely won't be keeping it. Even if the GNex was delayed, I would return it and wait.

Hmm, is it just me, or is this the absolute worst bug the Rezound could have?

HTC Rezound Having Sound Issues Through Headphones, Including Beats Earbuds – Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

edit: I posted before I read the article, clearly DL feels the same way, haha.

I couldn't have said it better myself, and I quote:
"so let me get this straight. VZW sees fit to release a phone that has a pretty annoying bug that permeates through it's most advertised and touted feature... BUT the G-Nex, which has already been released by the world, who's volume rocker bug, which only happens in 2g and Google already has a fix for, must be held back for further testing?

Or when VZW released an update for the t-bolt that did away with voicemail notification?

come on, vzw, just release the damn thing, or just say you hate the nexus devices because they won't build revenue for you (ie, bloatware, supporting the droid brand)"

ugh sounds like the issue i had with my Bionic. one of the main reasons i returned it aside from shutting off and losing 4G connectivity.

I couldn't agree more.

But don't expect that on other forums - and generally, when people have problems relating to root/bootloader/software they visit other forums where those rules are enforced mainly for the reason I provided.

A majority of people enjoy the nice environment this board offers, which is mainly the reason this thread is so large in comparison to others.

Any malice or negative connotation taken from my original post was not intended; mainly for informational use only.

Yeah, I see your point, but the testers seem to be hinting at connectivity issues being the problem, so not sure it was the volume bug holding it up.

OH NO, my seat belt is broken, let me borrow yours? :D:p

Of course! Hop in! Safety first....and on that note..

Let's make the mods days a little easier. Excitement may be building, but let's try to avoid the manic depression that (may) follow. Feel free to PM me your frustrations; i'll probably be feeling the same way and we can get through this pre-release together. And that way, the mods can have more time to scour the internet for scraps like the rest of us.

did you notice on the last page of the tear down they find some samsung RAM, and its 4GB's worth? what gives, anyone know what that memory is used for? doesn't the Razr only have 1GB of RAM? why would it have a 4GB ram chip? Chip info below:

Samsung K3PE7E700M-XGC1 4Gb LPDDR2 RAM

That's a 4Gb or Gigabit, each byte is 8 bits, so you must divide that by 8 to get the # of bytes.
If you do the math, that's a 512MB (MegaByte) or 0.5GB (GigaByte).

So it looks like there are two separate 512MB (MegaByte) chips, for a total of 1GB (GigaByte) or 8Gb (Gigabit)
