Remove lockscreen altogether?

how to get rid of the sliding lock bar. i tried to set it to "none" for security and location, but it doesn't work.

That doesn't prevent abuse of a totally unlocked phone. It 'only' helps with location and recovery AFTER the fact. When it has already happened. When the damage has already been done. You're really too late.

Lookout is very convenient, don't get me wrong. I have it installed too. I recommend it. But Lookout is a LAST line of defense*. The phone lock is the FIRST line of defense. The front door to your house. You don't leave the front door to your house open and unlocked, do you?

To answer your question, there are various lockscreen replacements out there, some would require root. But it should be possible to skip it, yes. I don't know the names off the top of my head though sorry

There are ways to bypass most screen locks if someone is determined.

i used to able to set it to no screen lock of any kind at all, but after they reset my phone (tried to solved other problem with navigation), i can't get rid of the slide lock bar again.

Have you downloaded and installed, "No Lock" from the Market as I suggested earlier?

Get No Lock from the market, then deactivate lockscreen. Problem is that whenever any hardware button gets pressed, like the home key on some phones, the screen is turned on and you may get pocket activity or something.
