It is not on the Droid X. To make yourself feel better install THIS app, it will check to see if Carrier IQ is on your phone. You do not need root access to run it.

Interesting. One of the stories I read mentioned the Droid X specifically as being one of the devices that does have it. but this app says mine doesn't. Guess I don't need to use my early upgrade to get the Galaxy Nexus to get away from CIQ!

Carrier IQ bothers me quite a bit but I too, like others here have been told it's not on the Droid X. I've searched a lot but can't find it if it is on my phone.

Verizon says it's not on thier phones and to the best of my knowledge nobody (and undoubtedly smarter than I am) has come out and said it was if they could find it. So, at this point, I'm fairly confident it's not on Verizon phones.

Verizon has said they have not installed it on ANY device. BMX did add that Carrier IQ wasn't the only way carriers track your info. It's data being transferred over the airwaves. Nothing is truly secure.

Yes, but you're talking about sending data over the wireless network, like and email or a text message. Carrier IQ logs your keystrokes and other things you input on your phone. With carrier IQ you don't have to "send" anything. It does the sending by itself. For example, you type yourself a grocery list into you phone, just as a reminder to yourself what to get when you go to the store. Even though you don't actually "send" that list to anyone, Carrier IQ logs your keystrokes and reports back what you typed.

Now obviously a grocery list is not a huge deal, but say you were a businessman just typing a reminder to yourself about a business meeting, or a note about firing one of your employees..... This could be a big deal if the wrong people found out about it.

I'm hoping Verizon is being truthful regarding carrier IQ or any other kind of keylogger.

everything you do online, can be traced, never think you are secure and safe, because your not.
