Skyrocket comparison thread

Just curious. The thought has crossed my mind.

The Skyrocket is great but I dont know if I can live with the screen lines and poor audio quality.

The reviews on the Nitro are coming in and they are awesome.

I do not know what you are talking about. I have no screen lines and the audio quality is excellent. The basis advantage of the Nitro is the higher screen resolution. However, I think that the screen in the SR, despite the lower resolution is actually fantastic.

Oh you have vertical lines on your screen! SR owners all do. Watch any movie especially those with a lot of low light scenes, you will see the lines. Was watching Adrift on netflix last night and its annoyingly noticeable.

But if some how you don't have these lines, your are the lucky few.

Put brightness on its lowest setting THEN do the above. .open the market...view pics in your gallery

The lines currently exist on EVERY samoled device ...you may not notice them but they are there.

As for audio i am referring to
1. Excessive feedback through line out while charging
2. Distorted sound

I have tested 6 units and compared against other phones. the issues exist, i just have to decide if they are worth living with.

I need someone other than just me to go get it, lol. :D

I have the Samsung Infused 4g and is able to get an upgrade. I checked ATT's website and it says that the SR will cost me $150+fee instead of the normal $250.

I haven't had a chance to play with the SR phone yet but heard a lot of great reviews on it. I know it is a good phone but just wondering if it is a big enough upgrade from the Infused.

If I lived in a city with LTE, I wouldn't even bother asking this question and just get it. But since I live in a non-LTE city I wonder if I should just wait.

I don't want to wait too long though because my contracted ended 3 months ago and I don't want to "waste" any more month without getting the update.

So my question is besides the LTE, is there a big enough performance difference between the two?

I have no lines under bright or low light. There are no such lines. You have a defective phone. Replace it. I hardly think that I am the only one that has a phone with a pristine screen. None of the reviews also noted any lines. I strongly suggest that you replace your phone with one that works fine.

Do you own a skyrocket lol...the last 3 phones released by samsung have no gps issues

Reviews state they seriously stepped it up this time.

Updates...they are not any worse than ssmsung lol

Right now I have the sgs2 since lte isn't coming into the this area I have been testing gps extensively on it since its an dealbreaker for me i still have mixed results. The gps is on par with my captivate. It's no where near as good as motorola or htc phones. Maybe will just deal not having gps on an phone who knows

Isn't this the definition of paranoia??? "You cannot see them, but they are there"!!!!

LOL....I said "notice"

I have pretty good eyesight so they are noticeable :p

I also test a ton of devices :p the majority of which do not have the lines ;)

For the time I am returning my SR.

We are going to pick up a Nitro and white SR when best buy gets them in.

Try this, put your device on low light, open a folder in one of your homepages. On my device i see thin vertical lines in the greyish background in the folder. Do you see these lines? True the lines are lessened when on max lighting but in dark movies its really annoying. Have you watched any movies on Netflix? If you have a netflix account ill ask you to try this movie and see if you see the pinstripes during the start of the lion gate film splash. "The Last Three Days" with Russel Crowe. Totally noticeable on my device.

Lucky you if you got a perfect screen...

I know what you mean spikeithard! I would have been satisfied with the S2 myself but the 4.5" screen and LTE speed is nice!
I'm curious to know how your battery life has been. Mine sucked until I downloaded a few apps (like juice defender and 2x battery. It's improved significantly since then (I get about 2 days before I need to charge with light/moderate use)

Phone looks and feels amazing.

I liked the screen, but clarity was nowhere near what it is on the Skyrocket. Sad too because color felt dead on (not over saturated, more real life on the Nitro) But it was "fuzzy" and did not show as much detail

Performance..dead on exactly the same on Antutu EXCEPT for RAM, the Nitro scored MUCH higher.

Linpack scores were high 80's-low 90's compared to the Skyrockets mid 70's low 80's

the deal killer....the rear speaker

At full volume we could barely hear multiple youtube videos that played loud and clear on the display Skyrocket and our Inspire

I did this test display vs display in store. We spent an hour in there.

I did notice the wierdness mentioned about the browser but it was not that big of a deal to me.

and of course..the 4gb internal mem is a huge deal to me but I was willing to overlook it

in the end we ordered 2 white skyrockets from bestbuy for $139 each (frys electronics pricematch)

It really is a great phone, but not in the key areas I WANT it to be

weel when i had ogs2, the charge was much longer, BUT it definitely lasted much longer. my sr lasts me maybe a day, while my ogs2 lasted a little bit over a day.

for the processing power, i feel like it's slightly slower on sr, but really enough to notice unless i'm searching for the slow down. the comparison between the two phones were done using some sort of speed test app/program so i'd trust that.

as for the speed, i dont live in lte network (NJ) and wont be getting it for probably a year or two, so i can't comment on LTE, but i did notice that the download speed on HSPA+ is slightly faster on sr than ogs2.

I have a family plan and the second line is eligible for an upgrade. I currently have an Inspire on the primary line (not elible until February 2012 at the earliest if I still have a one-year primary line upgrade, and if not, it would be around July or August of 2012), but I live in Dallas so they have LTE now.

My question is: is it worth going ahead and using the second line upgrade to get the Skyrocket or should I wait until some more LTE options come out in 2012?

The problem is...there isn't much on the horizon for early 2012

We may see the 5.3" note followed by the nexus and a HTC monster in quarter 2

I personally do not regret our upgrades to the skyrocket from our inspire and infuse

Once you have had LTE here in Dallas its hard to go back tho haha.

I say try it!!!!
