Can Android 2.1 work for the Eris

Like most Eris owners, I am eagerly waiting for an Android upgrade. I was just looking at a newly released video of the Nexus One and I wondered if the ERis gets updated to 2.1 would it be able to handle the movement of the background images. I noticed with Beautiful Widgets, before it was laid to rest, that if you clicked on the weather when it was cloudy you could see the clouds moving in the background. But will the constant moving images on 2.1 slow up the processor on the Eris.

Let me start out by saying I don'y even own an Eris yet, I'm by no means a phone guru and everything I "know" about the phone i got from this forum so.....

I was wondering if the processor itself would be able to handle 2.x.

The phone has a 2 yr old processor and things seem laggy already as reported here so.....how do you guys think the phone will react to the updated software?????

Could the software update fix a lot of the problems and have the phone work/react faster????

i would say that htc has all the reports of problem we currently have

they are knee deep in development of a sense compatible android 2.0 (2.1 whatever)

i am sure they will be doing their standard testing to make sure things are up to snuff, and maybe a little more for the concisely reported existing issues we have now.

they have already confirmed we will get 2.0, 2.1 can't be that different

that said, yes, i believe whole heartedly that the eris can handle it.

keep in mind, just because a new version comes out with more features doesnt mean it is heavier and thus harder to run. look at vista to win 7, 7 is supposedly much lighter and actually preferred over vista for netbooks although it has more features.

I'm with CaddyMan on that. Alot of useless code could be trimmed down or left out in Android 2.0 or 2.1. We don't know unless you are one of the developers. Android 2.X will definitely be sweet although you still might see some sluggish moments... Its not gonna be perfect

Well, I read that the G1 is getting the Android 2.1 update. I don't know what processor is on that phone. I used to own a BB Storm and it was updated to 5.0 OS right before the release of the Storm 2 which had a similiar system and it did wonders for the phone. The only difference was that the S1 lacked the wifi and the same app memory. I am hoping that the ERis will work great and offer a little more app memory than the S1 did.

The processor isn't creating the lag, the software is. Just disable Sense and revert to Home then watch how much faster the phone is.

I hope HTC is reading this and is working feverishly to program Sense to work with 2.0 / 2.1 better.

yes. but its no use without my contacts apps and email . i need help

Did you just get the Eris? You probably just got the second OTA update that was back in January or whatever.

If you really claim you have 2.1, take a picture with a camera, screenshot with the SDK or take a picture with someone elses phone. After you do that, I'll be glad to help you. ;)
