Root Ram usage?

I had an optimus v with cm7 7.2 and with all of my apps I was around 240mb of free ram.
On the triumph im sitting at about 163mb free ram, using a task manager to kill all available apps i can get it up to 183mb.
It is very smooth and all but I dont understand what can be taking up so much more ram. Is there a bigger slice going to the gpu?

I believe so. But on this phone it really aint a big deal. I usually stay around 114mb free, but see on Android, having full memory(to an extent) is actually a good thing because of the way Android utilizes the memory. My guess is that the GPU takes up more, so there is less total memory available.

makes sense as the Triumph is an HD phone and OptimusV is not

I am usually between 60-100mb free. Brandon is very much correct. With Android, free RAM is wasted RAM. It will keep commonly used apps in memory (but not using the processor etc.) so that they start quicker and use less resources to do so. I can find you some more in depth discussions on it if you like. It is really quite elegant in they way it works, but confusing when you have a windows or mac mindset.

Well I do understand the free ram is wasted ram. I came from a g1 and we dont have alot of ram over there. lol I was just wondering why there was such a drastic difference thats all.

Although Android manages memory in a just about a flawless manor one possible argument for running fewer background processes is battery conservation, especially in situations of long days with limited access to power. Have been experimenting with Auto-Killer Memory Optimizer having a crazy aggressive screen off profile so as few processes run as possible why the phone is idle. This in combination with a SetCPU screen off profile with a 122/356 min/max profile and some moderate undervaulting I have been getting 24 hour battery life with the same usage I would only normally see 10-15 hours. The screen off profile max I can lower and not notice much of a performance lag unless I’m streaming music. Anything under a 356 max just doesn’t cut it. Anyhow also wanted to add that if you have some serious battery drainage freeing up Ram also means the processor is working less and you get a bit more battery life. Long as you’re not using a task-killer. No sense constantly killing apps that just going to start back up the second it’s killed and uses processing power in doing so.

Well I figured it out my optimus v had like 425mb of ram to use and this phone only has 385 usable ram so there is a big difference in its self.

Also im sitting at 19 hr with 23% battery left and im overclocked to 1.6ghz max and 400mhz min with alot of wifi and pocket frogs/angrybirds usage.

I have found that if you turn of the lights in the capacitive buttons that you can get and hour or so more of battery life. Also my phone loves to be undervolted like crazy. It error with to much voltage so I found the perfect voltage for each clock and at 1.6ghz im using 1250v, and it just drops from there.
