Droid-Life - Announces it is not releasing on 12/9

When was the decision made to push this back? i went to vzw store around 8pm and purchased the bundle accessories for the nexus. i told the rep that i had been waiting for this phone for months and that all i do is read rumors and speculations about it. I told him that the new rumor in town is that the phone is coming out on the 9th, this friday. He smiled at me and said yes it is coming out on the 9th. He said they only have 20 in stock for now tho so i told him to save me one since i will be getting off work around 4.

this is the bundle accessories and receipt:

I'd have to agree. Though I'm not so fond of VZW, it's due to other reasons. Most of the release hype is the fault of various websites feeding rabid fans like us, in order to draw traffic.:(

I agree. People read about rumors and live by them, then get upset when they don't come true. You can't get mad at Verizon for not releasing a phone on a date they never confirmed. You also can't blame Verizon if the manufacturer is the hold out.

I can't believe how many adults act like kids waiting for Santa.

i don't really understand how you can flame VZW when there was never anything official from VZW saying it was coming Friday.

That's really part of the problem. They don't make timely announcements for their launches. A good company would let their customers know early and often and people would have less of a negative reaction if a timely statement was made with the cause of the delay.

As frustrating as the delay is, I'd much rather they get everything right with the phone before rolling it out. My wife got a blackberry storm 3 years ago shortly after it released and the thing was so buggy it was absolutely unbelievable. I couldn't believe RIM/Verizon would release something in such an almost unusable state. After our experience with that phone, I knew RIM was in big trouble and haven't been surprised at all with their recent fate.

So after that experience, I would much rather Verizon/Google/Samsung/whoever get it right with the phone before release. As others have mentioned, it really sucks to be stuck for 2 years with a phone that has major hardware or software issues.

1. I stopped anticipating the launch dates given from "sources" as no official word has been given from Verizon.

2. I am not surprised that a rumored date is delayed.

3. Can't blame Verizon for a delay when no release from Verizon to the public has been given.

I am wanting this phone as much as any of you. I am checking Pulse all day every 20 or 30 minutes for any updated news. Everytime my email "Droid" sound goes off on my phone I think "I hope this is an announcement from one of three email subscriptions I signed up for (Verizon sign up page, Google sign up page, and Samsung sign up page) informing me of launch date and pre order info".

The first "delay" from Verizon, probably to do with the volume bug. This one might have something to do with the other statment on this forum about overheating due to new hardware (not sure if I buy this, don't care), who knows, wont change the fact of a "delay".

My point about Verizon "delaying" is that perhaps they want to ensure that us, their customers, have a near as posible flawless (with the device, not the launch) experience with the Nexus. I can't blame a for profit business taking precautions to ensure that what they sale does not leave buyers remorse and a potentional of returns and a loss in profits. They will have new customers coming from other carriers, I am sure they want to give their existing customers and their new customers the highest quality of customer service as posible. I doubt the CEO and powers-to-be are sitting in an ivory tower gloating at how much fun it is to pee on our parade.

This is my next phone. I have been holding out for months for something with these specs, there is nothing else I want that Verizon has. My rooted Incredible, with ICS theme CM7 :D, is fantastic and will serve me well until I own my Nexus.

Yes, I know it sucks to not have this phone, no word from Verizon, and frequent delays. I wish you all the best from now until our Nexus day. And when that day comes (someone else said they are doing this at their place of employeement) I am buying a few boxes of ice cream sandwiches and giving to my employees and customers to help me celebrate!

Not to play devils advocate, but in the interest of fairness, they'd draw far more heat from customers if they spent the money and time building hype by giving early notifications, if they then couldn't deliver. And while we would love to be informed as to why some delays exist, from what I've seen, it doesn't really change anything; people still tend to be irrational and impatient, while everything is lumped under the "excuse" umbrella (provided they even understand any of the technical reasons).

This method isn't perfect, but at least when they finally announce the device release, most consumers (casual ones who were oblivious to any of this speculation), will be able to walk into a store and get one. Provided it's as bug free as possible, it means you will have a greater chance of retaining those customers and much of your reputation.

Of course, there is also the reality that you won't please everyone. Such is life.

Spent my morning clearing my schedule for Friday. On the way home stopped by my local Corporate store anticipating the answer yes when I cheerfully asked if the GNex would be available on Friday. Then was crushed by the answer....WE WERE TOLD THIS MORNING THE RELEASE WILL BE DELAYED!

CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP!!!!!!!!

The Manager did not know when, just said they will let us know and I will call you and let you know.

Take this as another grain of salt for the rumor mill, but I just went to the VZW authorized retailer by my work during lunch and he said they have them in stock and that the new release date is 12/13.
There's so many different contradicting stories it's starting to make my head hurt... lol.
I'm just hoping Verizon announces something definitive soon so I can make a decision on what to do with my RAZR.

Why are you people assuming that Verizon is the reason for the delay? The rumors I've heard have to do with issues with the device. Do you think Verizon just likes delaying launches to mess with you?

I have to agree with this. If I were Verizon I certainly would not want to have to deal with the headache of all the unhappy customers wanting to return/exchange bad hardware.

Ask yourself, what does VZW have to gain by delaying the release of the GNex? The only tinfoil hat answer I can come up with is to push the sales revenue into next quarter for whatever reason.

At this point I'm pretty much off the GNex bus until I see other people using it and getting some real world feedback.

G Nex inventory is already in stores. Shy of a major recall, they are going to release the products that have already been shipped. Only updates should be software updates via OTA updates. And no matter how many gazillion delays Verizon, Google or Samsung makes, there WILL be some random issues with the phone here and there. It's the nature of mass produced hardware and software. No such thing as the perfectly built smartphone. Just ask the fine folks in Cupertiono about the latest, or even previous, iPhone issues post release despite the 16 months it took to get to market.

Agreed. Can't blame Verizon for a missing a launch date that they neither stated nor promised.

From a corporation point of view its stupid and suicidal to will.flt push out an unfinished product. You will always be remembered for it. No, its ready when its ready.
