Root Post rooted/flashed admire - NOW WHAT?

I was thinking how interesting its been staying up late recently since doing all this work on my shiny sleek little admire. This being my first "smartphone" I would like to know what else is possible with android 2.3.4. , I keep reading things about a ROM not being finished yet or being able to overclock but everyone is waiting for it. Can someone explain how this will improve my phone and what options or look will change / be available versus right now i have a bloatware free, no poweron.wav, rooted, PRL updated to 026 having 175kbs 3G speed, flash 11.0 working, go launcher themed, very fast smooth and snappy admire?

I was using an extended battery which just today i have swapped back to stock in order to use the hard & soft case together. ( I have not found 1 case that fits the admire with extended battery)

**Update**
In switching to 026 from 025 PRL in Jacksonville Northeast FL
It has improved speed here versus the 025 PRL which still works in providing a 3G indicator and gets 120k speed put iv tested up to around 180kbs average down speed on 026 so for now I am sticking with this one.

have you found any good apps to stream movies for like megaupload?

on my iphone 3g I had a program called chronic tv which let me watch movies. I can live without the HD games, but I should be able to stream movies on a smart phone with 800mhz.

sure the admire is fastand has good battery but no video apps? most just bounce me to a website where it plays choppy even though I have flash installed

  1. Miniclips.com for flash games
Youtube.com look at the movies tab in the top right then either rent/buy movies streaming or choose free movies

Outside of this i use my pc to download movies and watch mostly ( dual 22" monitors with audio/video running to a 62" lcd tv & digital surround sound 16 speaker setup) using bittorrent etc.

Any other suggestions besides streaming movie aspect?

I found this and it made my admire more enjoyable....

Movie Stream 1.3 Apk | Free Mobile Messenger

until I realized our phones cant stream it faster then 3 rframes a second...

from what I understand, our admires are missing GPU chips so we cant play any high end games or run live wall papers, or watch movies online....

So even if someone release a rom, its just gonna be a bunch of bells and whistles for the Operating System. , but I think if your looking to run all the cool HD games, looks like we will be stuck using childish flash games...

And it runs live wallpaper, emulators and streams just fine.

Oh, and the speaker can be heard in my friends f250 with the windows down at 80mph.

Suck that iPhone.

it runs SOME live wallpapers.

try running Hot Stripper Live Wallpaper. It wont run it. Im am sure there are other.

The thing can barley run any games. And it streams from megavideo at like 5 frames per second.

Again, this is simply because apps are not commonly made to run on specific devices. There are litterally hundreds of android devices with thousands of possible chip set combinations where as there have been a total of what? 5 iPhones?

You can't expect a low end PC to run hi end programs just because it has the same os as an alienware PC. Same with android, don't expect a $150 phone to run the same programs as a $4-600 phone just because it runs 2.3.

well I can understand not running high end games. but the fact that it can't run live wallpaper or play mega video all while it has an 800 mhz processor its mind boggling. sure it runs 2.3 but it has an 800 mhz processor!

since when do phones need dual cores to run wall papers or steam video

They dont need dual cores. The application needs to be optimized for the hardware.
Which wont happen unless the device is mid to high end anyway because those are the people more willing to pay for an app. Devs don't cater to low end devices, its not profitable.

As for the 800mhz deal, the phone has 5 or so levels of CPU time often called memory thresholds. One level is dedicated to the core operation of the phone, important system applications are kept running at this level. Another often holds the home application in place, then the app that is in use, then any Widgets on your homescreen and finally your live wallpaper.
So you have 800mhz but you can't ever use it all at once for a single thing, some is constantly locked up in other operations.

Between the memory threasholds and universal nature of android applications (as in they are made to attempt to run on whatever hardware and most importantly what specific processor and screen type you have) you simply can't expect to run every app in the market at optimal performance on every device.
Android phones are all semi-unique multitaskers where as an iPhone is an iPhone, they are all clones basically and they all do one thing at a time using as much CPU time as possible without crashing.

Do you understand now?

the "mod" is nothing more then a graphical user interface (gui) enhancements.

If you don't like your phone, fine. But don't go around misinforming someone who is looking for actual INFORMATION by giving what is simply your opinion. CyanogenMod is much more than a GUI enchancement.

ATRAIN, if you'd like to know more about ROMS, specifically CyanogenMod which is the one that is being ported to the Admire you can check this link out.

or basically a GUI enchantments.

still wont be able to realistically watch flash, and still wont be able to play high end games or run live wallpapers.

Enough with the stripper live wallpaper. And yes you are right it likely wont, your iphone with 482mhz is sounding fantastic, I reccomend you go back to it since the diversity of android seems like an unattainable idea to some. ;) hey btw did your past phone run flash?

A cyanogen mod will likely include an oc kernel, much better file setup, deodexed, better battery life, and FAR more customization. It sounds like you guys are talking about themes not roms.
Atrain cyanogenmod will provide many noticeable tweaks and setups that can really make a difference, especially if you ever get CM9. Along with roms the recovery will allow people to further expirement with tweaks and add ons that people at this time will not test or develop because of the possibility of bricking their phone.
I have a feeling this community will grow and the admires true potential will be unlocked :D

About the project | CyanogenMod

Thanks for this information i just read this on the site:

CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. CyanogenMod does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

All the source code for CyanogenMod is available in the CyanogenMod Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to CyanogenMod, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

Instructions:

First time flashing CyanogenMod 7 to the Samsung Fascinate, or coming from another ROM?
Root the device and install ClockworkMod Recovery. Instructions are available here.
Perform a NANDroid backup of your current ROM.
Format the system, data & cache partitions of your device.
Perform a factory reset.
Flash CyanogenMod.
Optional: Install the Google Apps addon package.

** i thought i bricked my first phone i was actually doing these first few steps and didnt know how to factory reset .. now i do so would this work ? the fascinate is the same as admire right? Has anyone installed cm7 using these steps ?

ok so i might have answered my own question from the reply i did before this one .. im guessing the fascinate cm7 mod will not work on the admire?

No it won't right now. The Admire and Fascinate actually have very different hardware (the Fascinate being much like the other Galaxy S phones). That's why we're waiting for developers to port CM7, since its what they do. What it involves is pretty much getting CM7 to work with the Admire's various drivers. You can see what is working so far in this post here.

Once everything works and the build is stable enough the developer will release CM7 for the Admire along with the instructions for how to install it. It takes time, but the good thing is that we've actually got someone working on it.
