Help Why won't this simple USB tether work???

I just bought this Optimus Slider a few days ago and using it with Virgin Mobile. I just cannot get USB tether to work and have tried using both EasyTether and Faveset Klink. I connect the phone to the computer, but it the programs just cannot find the phone.

I know it is connected though because I can see the microSD card in Mass Storage Mode. And yes I have USB Debugging set to ON and have tried it both in mass storage mode and charging only mode from there.

I also downloaded the LG Mobile Support Tool from the LG website

and it can't find my phone either.

I can provide more details if necessary but hoping someone had this exact same problem and knows an easy fix. I'd rather not root this phone yet and would like to test out USB tether before I possibly root and do wifi tether, etc. I don't now if the 3G around here is fast enough and just wanted to test it with my laptop for awhile first...thanks.

you can not tether with VMUSA phones, the tethering has been disabled

You can tether them if you root the device from what I've been told. And I've heard you can do it even without rooting. That's what I'm asking.

That policy says what they do and don't want you to do with your phone...it doesn't say what you can and can't do it with it, in reality.

such a technicality. VM doesn't go by what their company policies say either, at least their customer service doesn't. But of course I will respect the policies of this forum and website.
