***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Great article!

It is amazing to think that Android came from this:
google_android_prototype_i00.jpg

to this:
galaxy-nexus404v_large_extra_large.jpeg

In such a short time.

Meanwhile Apple went from this:
iphone1stgen.gif

To this:
iphone4-525-1.jpg

I don't quite get the dig at Apple here. Anytime someone looks back at Android's history of devices, it's "funny" how much they look like the dominant devices of the time, BB and then iPHone.

*remains calm, deep breaths* FINALLY i have caught up on this thread. It would have been sooner, but it would be inappropriate to type out the number of expletives in my head regarding the expletive network speed here today. It takes a solid minute just to open a new page because of something on this expletive network. I was better off with my phone while stuck at my stupid 1x data rate for the past 24+ hrs. It didn't get to 3G until on the way to work this morning and never got back to 4G. And, naturally, I can't check it again until I leave work at 3pm. (So much for my dental appt fortuitously being on a possible launch day). Anyhow, it makes perfect sense for Verizon to put off the launch of the phone due to the 4G issues happening. Ohers have said that VZW isn't stopping sales of Bionic, etc. True. But bear in mind that those are pre-existing devices which have already been proven to work on the 4G network. Because devices like the XYBoard and GNex have never been really seen/heard of by the general public, many people are going to assume that there's something wrong with the devices themselves despite all the logical explanations that might be provided to them. Why? Because (get ready for what may be the quote of day here) consumers aren't the most intelligent people in the world. Especially when it comes to tech. Because they are generally ignorant of (ignorant meaning "not educated about", not "stupid") such things and want to know and understand something very simple. Something goes wrong, over-simplifed analogies occur. We tech support people see it all the time. "I can't get to my email therefore my computer is broken." A frozen application becomes equal to "Windows is broken". And I'm sure you all know several more examples of this. Now, if something "breaks" that they already used successfully before, they might be amenable to hearing that something suddenly went wrong and can be fixed. If you give someone something brand new and it doesn't work as designed, it's automatically junk, on the other hand. Verizon doesn't need a whole bunch of Chicken Littles seeing that and spreading a bunch of bad press via word of mouth to equally non-technical friends. I know many people who think their phones are broken if they suddenly get a pop up for an update. They expect it to just work, especially people coming from feature phones. As it is, it's been reported that ICS isn't as simple to figure out as Gingerbread is, but most of us are power users who want the nexus for reasons beyond what the general public will. If this phone gets labeled as an "iconic" device and starts getting press, Verizon doesn't need a "complicated" phone combined with a malfunctioning network. Particularly the first ICS device which would make Google look bad as well in some cases. I don't mind waiting a bit longer for all that to be sorted. The better embraced this phone is by the general populace, the better off the Android platform is. And we could use that now that Apple's filing all these patent infringement allegations against the OS now.

End of line.

DIdn't read it, but I thanked it just in case anything useful was said. :p

I doubt there will be a pre-order, but the fact that the page exists is strange.

HTML:
<html>

<head>

<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;URL=http://smartphones.verizonwireless.com/nexus/" />

</head>

</html>

This is the site listed on the stickers on the phone in the leaked shots from VZ vzw.com/galaxynexus

it has the same html currently and was setup/updated on the same date as the preorder website. So if we ping them both check for the 301/302 redirect and have the script go "ZOMG IT STOPPED REDIRECTING GUYS!!!" we will know something is up.

Oh Forbes:

Verizon to Release Galaxy Nexus Amid Heavy Competition - Forbes

They're saying the 9th as per leaked emails/stock in stores.

I saw this article, but Forbes is just pointing to another article that was written yesterday, and as we all know, one day for the Nexus rumors is like a year in real life... And they don't actually show this "leaked internal document", so it's very likely something that the writer saw on this forum...

But, I hope the jist is still correct, and we get our phones tomorrow... :)

I hate to say it Han, but I kind of agree with HuskerKate. When I spoke with the rep at Verizon last night (trying to get info) I got from him, very grudgingly I might add, that they had an unactivated demo unit in the back. Not only was he not allowed to show it to anyone, He claimed not to be allowed to activate it. After this I mentioned that I thought that was interesting. I told him that online I heard about and saw evidence of store reps showing the phones to people. He looked a bit non-plussed and exclaimed that (these reps) would likely be in major trouble...Anyway, after that it went like this:
me: So Friday was the day
Him: yes
Me: And now its not
Him: Uh huh..
Me: And there is no new date
Him: yes
Will there be a pre-order:
Him: No
Me: So they may just appear on the shelf here sometime in the next few days
Him: yes
Me: Ok, thank you.

Hmm. I suppose it's possible then. Who knows.

We're saying that Google has continued to make strives forward, they went from a lot of buttons to all touchscreen plus volume/power. Meanwhile apples devices look exactly the same, pretty much same size and everything too i believe.

I suppose he could have leaked something major to someone else after the meeting this morning and got caught.

But I highly doubt it was for showing me the Nexus. There was a manager standing there, too, and he didn't seem angry or anything.

Or could have selling used/"borrowed" phones on E-bay, CSR's get nailed all the time for taking "returned" or "loaner" phones (and accessories) and selling them...

Unless, something happens, I wouldn't get freaked over this...

Verizon: Dr. I just haven't been feeling well lately.
Dr: What are you symptoms
Verizon: Just generally depressed, I feel like everyone hates me almost like they are out to get me. My friend Google is upset w/ me, my customers hate me, I do the usual press release to try to clean up any bad press but nothing works. I even fired a few employees to make me feel better but that doesn't do it anymore either. I feel depressed all the time.
Dr: I am going to write you a prescription Relexa (name brand for Release Nexus Immediately). You should see your symptoms clear up immediately so I suggest you fill the prescription straight away.

Oh, it wasn't a dig in any way. I was just noting how interesting it is that Google/Android has gone through so many changes and Apple has more or less stuck by their original design.

This is not necessarily true. Everyone points to the button device but they had an all touchscreen device at the same time. See:

Android Demo - YouTube

See the 3 minute mark.

Morning BB. We need some good news here today! How is everyone? Are we still family?

My dinc knows the end is near. I also bought adw ex for 10¢ and have had to reboot twice because dincy don't wanna play nice. Apparently ripping the little bugger's battery out with no warnings solved the problem (yeah, I know it's not good but I had to try).

Of course we're still family! We can disagree just like any family but the love is still there.

...well, they did have the superior design and stood by it. i HATE iphones but, their design and OS is what got us here IMHO.

OT:

Dammit, Pujols to Angels?? And stupid me, I was holding some sort of hope that the Cubs wouldn't send a token lowball offer, but I guess they did, in typical fashion. Frakking cheapskates.

Oh well. Pujols has been in decline the last 3 years, but he's still the best hitter.

OT Chicago sports talk...

Do you honestly think Theo Epstein is going to turn the club around? My vote is no.

Then again, I wrote the Cubs, and baseball entirely, off when I was at the Cubs/Sox game where Zambrano beaned 3 batters in a row.

Hellooooo Blackhawks! Not nearly as heartbreaking, and *gasp* THEY WIN.
