Root Apps to SD

I rooted my phone over the weekend in order to get a few extra features. The primary one I am looking for is moving apps to my SD card so that I don't get that disk full err. (I don't know what they were thinking when they put such a small amount of internal) Is there a preferred app or ROM to manage this.

Also as a side note. What is the preferred app for wireless tether. I had been using pdanet.

Welcome to AF!!! This should do it. You can find the preferred wifi tether app here. People tend to have the best success w/ pre9 or pre11.

apps 2sd is not the best solution. Some of the roms, like mikg2.61, etc, have something called a2sd built in.

you have to have your sd card partitioned. the rooting for dummies gingerbread sticky has the directions to do that.

Thanks for jogging my memory! For whatever reason I couldn't remember if a2sd was built in or not.

Like I mentioned in another thread, I'm slipping in my old age!

Yes, memory is the 2nd thing to go with age; but I do not remember what is the first.

Hey welcome to the club and all but I'm pretty sure it's possible to do apps to sd with a nonrooted phone. My wife's evo isn't rooted and tech told her how to do it over the phone. I'm just saying, you won't regret being rooted or anything so whatever the reason... welcome to the club.

For rooted users, this is what you want to run. You will need to format your SD card with an EXT partition (steps are included here) and I would recommend flashing either the stable version of dt a2sd or the beta 4 version of a2sd. Here is the link

Now from what I understand, stay away from beta 4 if you are running a rom based on Android 2.3.7. There are issues with dalvik crashes with this build of the Android OS and beta 4, so if you go and clear dalvik, there may be issues with getting the phone to boot (it will usually require a battery pull or two) but the stable version is fine with Android 2.3.7 roms. The stable version works just fine with 2.3.7. The beta 4 apparently has some nice features though, I think it will automatically do permission fixes when you move apps, which is kind of a nice touch. But they are pretty similar overall. And much much more useful than trying to move apps to your sd card the manual way.

I set my swap at the default value when doing my sd partition and set up a 2 GB partition, which is probably way more than I would ever really need. Also, be sure to upgrade EXT2 to EXT3 when your do your format. There is no need to upgrade the EXT3 to EXT4 because it's not supported, so you won't see any benefit from doing this.

Any questions, let me know. Once you get set up, you will never want to go back. And like it was stated above, a lot of the Sense Roms these days have it built right into the ROM. AOSP does not (at least not on any that I've ever tried).
