I really wish the cell phone/carrier landscape was different. More like the european carries where everyone uses GSM and it really doesn't matter what provider you buy your phone in. I imagine even when AT&T comes out with there LTE that they still will be on different standards so you can't use AT&T LTE phones with VZW LTE phones.

It sure would be nice so carriers can't hold you over a barrel for upgrades, poor release dates, etc.

It is clear as day that carriers have too much power over the consumer. It should be illegal to block what cell phone manufacturers give you for free, and then charge a price for that same feature. It is also not right to charge you for the same data that you already pay for just because that data is used to send a sms or email or talk etc.

Off topic computer question:

I am showing my non tech knowledge here - what is the SSD and why is it so good? And I know a couple people I'm pm'ing the next Time I buy a computer!

Already answered I know (damn ninjas) but an SSD is solid state memory, essentially no moving parts. Think of your Dinc and the memory it has in it. That's a SSD, it does not use ceramic disks that it physically writes to for your phone to store information, rather they are stored somewhat 'virtually' (lot more technical than that of course). This allows the information to be retrieved quickly due to no moving parts but also because the technology allows for things to be written contiguously.

A hard disk is just that.. hard media. They use ceramic platters/disks that spin at high speeds (5400/7500/10,000 RPM depending on the drive). Essentially think of a hard disk like a vinyl record that can be recorded on over and over. There is a little arm that inscribes/reads your data onto the disk via magnets.. however, that data usually ends up being scattered over the drive. Hence, the need for defragmentation programs. Also, because of the way the data is read/written to the drive it is susceptible to a head crash - where the reader arm ends up scraping across the platter due to a drop/vibration/etc.

So, an SSD is faster, quieter, and less susceptible to shock. But are more expensive per gigabyte of data than a regular hard drive.

seriously hope no one is that crazy... but even if they were, VZ would just blacklist the MEIDs making them useless. i honestly believe that we will see a few people with a nexus in their hands tomorrow though. there are bound to be some stores/resellers/third party distributors that let 1 or 2 fly out the door before VZ brings down the hammer on them.

hopefully i am one of the lucky few. ha and no i wasnt implying i am gonna be among the crazies. haha.

@SolidOrange

I noticed you have a Revue.

Have you gotten the 3.1 update pushed yet? I wish there was some way that we could force it. I would really like the Google Music app.

Still anxiously waiting here =/

no update for me... and i feel like i should get it first as an early adopter! i can't stand seeing people who paid 1/3rd what mine cost already getting 3.1. to be fair, mine was a christmas present last year so it didn't cost ME anything, but still! :(

I wish all phones could be used on every network like pretty much all of Europe and those countries are. Too bad I am stuck on cdma otherwise I would have imported a nexus and be done with it.

So my buddy is a manager at a store and he just received some Galaxy Nexuses in stock. I told him I'd be there in 20 min and sell me one now and he said he wished he could, but their system won't let them till 1201am tonight.

He said be there at 1030 tomorrow and he'll sell me one. I told him there was a delay and he said he should be able to override it tomorrow since that was the original date.

He will find more info when he goes in tomorrow so there is a small chance I could get it tomorrow.

I also mentioned to him that if he can sell it, I can have him make budget for the month by noon tomorrow.

Im in the Northern VA area. PM me and I can keep you updated tomorrow morning if it is a go or not.

Hope to have it tomorrow!

I hope that it works out for you... however:
1. If VZW doesn't want them sold or activated, they won't be
2. If your friend does try to bypass "Big Brothers" wishes, he'll end up fired

I have the Revue too. Waiting for the update to automagically appear. I bought it at $99 instead of the original price, so I'm okay waiting a bit.

Though I am not okay waiting for the Galaxy Nexus anymore. I agree that the carriers have way too much control over devices. Please don't flame, but that is one thing Apple gets right by controlling their experience.

Hope you're not trolling. This means others should be able to theoretically pick up the device tomorrow as well!
