Off topic computer question:

I am showing my non tech knowledge here - what is the SSD and why is it so good? And I know a couple people I'm pm'ing the next Time I buy a computer!

Instead of a mechanical hard drive its a solid state chip. No moving parts, much faster, Mo Moni $.

Maybe not delayed in the eyes of the general public, but internally, yes.

There have been tons of leaks showing that Verizon intended to release it, then held it back. That is, by definition, a delay. The fact that there was never a release date provided does not mean they didn't delay the release.

IMHO those 'tons' of leaks of intended release dates could have been 'shopped up by folks just wanting to keep the pot stirred.

So today I stopped by an authorized Verizon retailer. Guy said that the phone would be arriving today or tomorrow. He didn't know when it could be sold.

I have a question for everybody:

He let me pre-order the phone. I paid for it, received a receipt and proof of purchase. I haven't read of many people pre-ordering the phone like this. Should I be worried that I got scammed somehow?

Solid State Drive. Basically a HDD that uses flash memory instead of ys,pinning disks and is WAY faster in most respects than a HDD.

Holy acronyms Batman, did you just answer a question about SSD by comparing it to a HDD? :p

Anyone in here a Computer Engineering, Comp Sci, or IT major good with data structures and algorithm analysis??

I'm stuck on a problem here..

Maybe... what ya got?

So my buddy is a manager at a store and he just received some Galaxy Nexuses in stock. I told him I'd be there in 20 min and sell me one now and he said he wished he could, but their system won't let them till 1201am tonight.

He said be there at 1030 tomorrow and he'll sell me one. I told him there was a delay and he said he should be able to override it tomorrow since that was the original date.

He will find more info when he goes in tomorrow so there is a small chance I could get it tomorrow.

I also mentioned to him that if he can sell it, I can have him make budget for the month by noon tomorrow.

Im in the Northern VA area. PM me and I can keep you updated tomorrow morning if it is a go or not.

Hope to have it tomorrow!

Do you think he can sell via debit card and ship!?
If so, I'm SO down for this!!

I called my local store at 7:45 tonight just to reaffirm that I could still pick up the Nexus tomorrow...He said we are good to go. I am pretty confident when I get there and start the activation process it won't allow him to activate or something.

I have been upfront that I heard it was delayed. I can't help but wonder if he knows and doesn't care or is he this bull headed and ignorant. He keeps saying no way will Verizon recall the launch this late in the game.

How would you handle it, if you were in my situation?

It's a very bad, and expensive lifestyle to live by though :(
Anyone else has family/friends that call you crazy or weird for wanting this phone so badly?

Welcome aboard and great name!

As long as you have a receipt, you should have no worries. You might have to wait until they actually have stock, but seems like it won't be long.

Hopefully you'll get it and be able to show us :D

So first I found out (while following at work via the Phandroid app) that it's highly unlikely I'll get my phone tomorrow. Bummed out. Check twitter this afternoon. LA Lakers Get Chris Paul in trade (the twitters screamed)...Done deal they said. YES! I temporarily forget about my precious Nexus. Then, got in my car to come home from work..."Commissioner Stern has vetoed the trade". WTF?!?!? I'm sick to my stomach from all of these roller coaster rides!!! :D

Welcome!!!! Don't worry at all if it's an authorized retailer. I've heard of them doing that before. You're good. :)

I played with the phone tonight, screen on with no sim inserted. Man this thing is light and smooth. For those who haven't seen it in person
IT IS WORTH THE WAIT.

its like holding a large screen that fits in your hand perfectly. I asked the rep at non corporate store if he would be willing to sell early. He replied sure Id probably lose my job though. Althought he did pull one out of the back and placed a sticky on it with my name and number on the box and said he would call as soon as they can sell them.

In case anyone is wondering about the box there is embossed verizon logos on there but can barely be seen.

ok so today i went to my Verizon store where a very good friend of mine is the General Manager there...

he got the demo training unit of the back of the store for me and let me have about 30 mins playing with the phone and and let me take a few pictures but no videos the pictures that contain no incriminating evidence will be posted by steven58 when he gets back he is going to phanrdroid bran the pictures so we get all the credit for it and i was told information about the release at least here in the state of Virginia and DC area

Hey Nexicans,

BlackBelt is my buddy from the DInc Root Forums. Bashing him for grammar, one line posts, and following specific instructions from phases and steven58 is uncalled for. We don't bash each other. We don't point out grammar mistakes unless it is very light hearted. For those who might take offense to this, I apologize. I just feel compelled to stick up for my man. I would do it for anyone else.

Thanks,

jmar

Edit: I was faaaaaaaar behind when I posted this but I stand by my words. Thanks mods and guides for sticking by my buddy.

I hope you and others are able to get one so it forces verizon to open the sales to everyone. Good luck.
