So who actually got the Nexus today the 9th of December

Well this morning I went into the corporate Verizon store in my area on the off chance that my dreams wouldn't be crushed. (Which needless to say they were.) So for kicks I decided to stop by my local Best Buy on the way home. What do I spy inside? None other than the precious that is the Nexus. I strike up a conversation with the employee there, she tells me she has a Razr but is contemplating getting this phone. She mentions that they got the phone in yesterday but weren't allowed to start selling it until today. Well pretty cool I think to myself, this girl isnt aware of any delays. Awesome, so I say, I think ill take one. (She tells me I'll be the first person.) We go through the process, they get out a Nexus for me, pop in a sim card, activate it to my phone line. We update my Verizon contract, I sign into a new two year agreement, everything is going swimmingly...

Until they go to check me out. A different employee actually goes to finish the sale. He scans the bar code, the machine makes a error noise and my heart sinks. He scans it again a few more times and says he thinks there is a problem. So he goes to the computer and pokes around the Best Buy internal websites, and finds that Best Buy doesnt have the SKU in their system yet, so he says he has to call his manager. Long story short the manager puts a stop to everything. Now he has to call Verizon and cancel my contract upgrades, and tries to restore everything as if I hadn't walked into the store. (Which hopefully happened, I'd hate to run into problems when I actually can get my phone upgraded.)

Anyway I came this close to walking out of the store with one. It was activated to my phone number, the contract was updated. I got shot down because they couldnt figure out a way for me to pay them. (One of the associates even suggested them just scanning another $299 phone so that I could just pay.)

Alas, it was just another tease though..

Ahh well I got what I deserved, I knew full well the phone wasn't really supposed to be out yet. lol. :D

For what its worth - my wife and I just walked out of the local Verizon store. She was (is) waiting for the Nexus, I already have a Rezound. The sales manager told us that the instructions he got was that the official release will be Dec 15th. I told him that "next week" is what my wife has been hearing for the last month but he said that he already had his shipment confirmed for next Thursday. My wife said its either next week for sure or she will just get the Rezound like I did. He swore to her that she will have one next week.

Now as I said - FWIW.

I called my local Verizon store today for the small chance I'd get someone that wasn't aware of the delay. I asked them if they had the Samsung Galaxy Nexus in stock, and they told me that they haven't started selling it yet. I asked them when they were going to start selling it, and they told me, basically, that it hasn't been announced yet.

I can't stand Verizon. I mean, I REALLY REALLY hate Verizon (even before they pulled this BS). I would leave them in a heartbeat just for the principle of being able to use unlocked phones direct from the manufacturer. But unfortunately, they are my only serious choice if I want 3G coverage (and the hopeful prospect of 4G).

tried to talk my account rep today, and from what she told me, verizon doesn't have a clue when they're going to release it.

Originally they were waiting for the ICS update. (initial delay)

that came and they decided to remove google wallet (another delay)

then the 4g outage (caused another delay)

now from what i've gathered VZW may be trying to add google wallet back in (cause of current delay.) Sadly i'm not sure about this at all and it's just my speculation from what i've seen and heard around the store I work in.

*disclaimer everything in this post is personal opinion, and does not reflect VZW or my employers opinions on the delay*

You're saying that the lack of Google Wallet caused a delay in the phone's release, which isn't true. It's just that people got in a hissy-fit when they saw it didn't have it and then Verizon had to make a statement.

Mike, they didn't do anything special to ring you out? You mustve caught a glitch or something I tried buying one this morning and everything went fine until they activated the phone, then when he tried to check me out at 299 it scanned unsellable so walked away with nothing what a tease...ahh the agony of defeat so close don't want to wait for vzw to get their crap together!!

I was thinking of trying to go to the Shack or Best Buy and try, but from what've I've heard is that people havent' been able to get past activation.

Didn't have a problem activating, checking out was the issue. Guy even called his boss beforehand to see if he was allowed and he got the go ahead. Wouldn't take the 299 price and came back unsellable. Since I don't live that far away from the same store I figured Id take the chance and get lucky also but no dice. After messing with it in person now I really hope vzw doesn't botch this Dec 15th "target". They're ready now there's no excuse
