Well this morning I went into the corporate Verizon store in my area on the off chance that my dreams wouldn't be crushed. (Which needless to say they were.) So for kicks I decided to stop by my local Best Buy on the way home. What do I spy inside? None other than the precious that is the Nexus. I strike up a conversation with the employee there, she tells me she has a Razr but is contemplating getting this phone. She mentions that they got the phone in yesterday but weren't allowed to start selling it until today. Well pretty cool I think to myself, this girl isnt aware of any delays. Awesome, so I say, I think ill take one. (She tells me I'll be the first person.) We go through the process, they get out a Nexus for me, pop in a sim card, activate it to my phone line. We update my Verizon contract, I sign into a new two year agreement, everything is going swimmingly...
Until they go to check me out. A different employee actually goes to finish the sale. He scans the bar code, the machine makes a error noise and my heart sinks. He scans it again a few more times and says he thinks there is a problem. So he goes to the computer and pokes around the Best Buy internal websites, and finds that Best Buy doesnt have the SKU in their system yet, so he says he has to call his manager. Long story short the manager puts a stop to everything. Now he has to call Verizon and cancel my contract upgrades, and tries to restore everything as if I hadn't walked into the store. (Which hopefully happened, I'd hate to run into problems when I actually can get my phone upgraded.)
Anyway I came this close to walking out of the store with one. It was activated to my phone number, the contract was updated. I got shot down because they couldnt figure out a way for me to pay them. (One of the associates even suggested them just scanning another $299 phone so that I could just pay.)
Alas, it was just another tease though..
Ahh well I got what I deserved, I knew full well the phone wasn't really supposed to be out yet. lol.
