***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Wow - talk about Phandroid hate. Our members had them first, Phandroid ran the story first on Friday.

News blog competition for the phail.

Maybe if they'd reposted our story from Friday, things would have gone viral and as I'd predicted, retailers would have caved to pressure this weekend en masse.

Phail, phail, phail. I lose, eating crow, the community sees widespread lose with scattered win.

A handful of winners does not vindicate my prediction - I predicted this to be widespread. Oh well.

Did you prefer the Razr or the Gnex ? Btw you could check the signal strength at your house; one of the options in ICS shows the actual strength in dbm.
Signal: -108 dBm 32asu
EDIT: Forgot to answer your first question: I definitely prefer the Gnex. Much more comfortable in my hand. ICS is amazing. everything is better imho
Thanks for posting. That's some serious battery suckage. Was 4G turned on the whole time?
Yes it was, and wifi was turned on at the same time for most of it. I took the screenshot of the battery after I uploaded the 100+MB video file to youtube, emailed a bunch of photos, did some app downloading, used Maps Navigation, sent some emails, browsed the web, etc. Not 100% sure why Facebook was on there. I have it, and use it -- but I don't recall using it today... :\

That's a good point. I wonder if this battery chart is with the screen brightness at max. That would make me feel better if that was the case.
Screen brightness was set to be automatic... Not at max

Someone else asked about seeing it outside. I have no problems seeing it in direct sunlight - even with automatic brightness. Screen is amazing. No real issues at all

I just tried this. Did you have any luck receiving the discount?
yep, got the discount yesterday morning. if you look back at my previous posts you will see details. But in any case I got the discount with no problem. However someone (I don't remember who) was reminded to try to get the discount by my post and was informed that the discount is regional but luckily he was in the correct region.

good luck and c-ya

I have very good reason to believe it will come on the 15th, but I don't know if I can wait any longer than that. I know I'll be real upset if I don't wait it out but Verizon had a promise that they would make an announcement this year and if it doesn't come out on the 15th, I'll be done with the whole ordeal, because I'm tired of waiting!

Not as good as getting one I guess....

They way I got to see one is the real reason I'm so angry at the way this whole launch is being handled...

Went to BJ's near me and as I walked in I asked the guy at the Verizon kiosk if he knew anything about the Galaxy Nexus, he said he has been hearing possibly a December 15th release. So I asked him if he has seen the phone or the demo unit was in, he said no, we probably won't have them shipped to them until the night before release.

So I do my shopping and I get in line at the checkout, I look over towards the kiosk and I see the guy showing the Galaxy Nexus to some girl...so I walk over and politely wait...so the rep looks over at me and I say, "Is that the Galaxy Nexus you have never seen?" and he proceeds to tell me he thought I was asking about another phone..

So anywho..I played with it for a few minutes...
It's big but it's light, it doesn't feel uncomfortable in my hand like the RAZR does. The screen is amazing! the software seemed snappy and the camera initializes and shoots fast.

Pretty much everything we have been hearing so far.

The Verizon Wireless rep flat out LIED to me, this is what Verizon has turned their reps to...liars.

Just called my local Radio Shack, they have them in stock, but aren't allowed to sell, obviously. I was hoping I may get lucky :( It may sound dumb, but I'm growing incredibly impatient waiting for this phone. I don't think I've ever wanted a phone this badly in my life. If VZW screws the pooch this Thursday I'm going to freak out, lol

At my house, LTE is currently 92ms ping, 7.30 Mbps download and 1.97 Mbps upload. It was faster on the RAZR. I have one bar of LTE whereas the RAZR when I rented it was much faster. However, about a mile down the road, when I tested it out 2 hours ago gave me: 99ms ping, 23.54 Mbps down and 18.80 Mbps up. The second result was more like what I was getting on the RAZR at my house.

It may be that the LTE radio isn't picking up the signal as well? I do not know, I just know that at my house it is not as quick and the signal is not as fast as the RAZR was. But in a stronger area they were the same.
It would be interesting to rerun the test after the 4.0.3 update, which IIRC has some LTE fixes that are supposed to be helpful.

Tx!

The new Facebook app is known to use up around 60% CPU when idle... plus it constantly pings for GPS. That could be why you're having really really bad battery life.

FWIW, stopped at a Verizon reseller in Cameron Park since I was right by it. I asked about the Nexus and he said "yeah it's not out yet. It was pushed out again. It was supposed to be the 15th but they pushed it to the 18th or 19th". He said of course they want this thing out by Xmas.

If this is true (major NaCl here), Verizon is dumber than I thought to miss another Xmas shopping weekend. So if that's true, it must be something major to miss yet another weekend.

In the android police I have to smile at 'some heads may roll'. Really? VZW would really get that pissed at a few phones being sold when they told everyone this was the day and just before send out emails hoping everyone gets the message trickled down to them. RS and BB have dozens of phones to chose from and let's be honest 'this isn't the iPhone' and then include the folks on their day off come into work and are expected to be up to date on every single phone out there. I sure hope that VZW sees this was their error and these sales are just something they will have to accept afterall last I checked humans can't read minds and VZW doesn't speak theirs.

Today I went in to return my hotshot while waiting I looked in their back room while CSR were in and out I saw maybe 10-20 all white boxes (i've seen the box in person) of nexus goodness I asked the store manager he flat out said they didn't have any. I think didnt call him on it. I just said thank you and walked out

So they lied to you too?

Verizon is a joke!

If that guy is legit, I'm gonna get a RAZR if we don't hear anything from Verizon on the 15th.

TOO MUCH PUSHING BACK!!!

Ah, I saw what you did with the NaCl, lol. Sodium chloride aka Common salt. Yeah Verizon would be dumb altogether if they push this back beyond the 15th. If pushed back, then it may just be worth waiting for the CES to scout what will be coming because by then, the Galaxy Nexus is old technology, and it'd be kind of pointless to buy it then. So let's hope for the best.

Okay I successfully got the discount added to my account and posted the info yesterday, here is a link to the post

http://androidforums.com/3621974-post76006.html

If you are interested in the actual email I sent to Verizon to get the discount it was short and simple

No negotiating or anything, they just added it to my account, although when I went to a premium reseller yesterday they could not see anything listed, but then again it was the same day as it was put on the account.

Okay, i just tried to do this via phone by calling big red customer service (800-922-0204). The lady I spoke to was very nice and tried her best to help. But I got nowhere. She claimed to have no knowledge of this $100 promotion. I tried giving the promotion code from the droid-life article (Verizon Promotional Mailer: Receive $100 Off Any 4G Smartphone, No Limitations Found – Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog): CH4GE. But that yielded nothing. So, I'll try to send an email to see where that gets me. A $100 discount is worth the effort. :)

Okay, and while on the phone I asked about the Galaxy Nexus. She said she knew about that phone and would check to see what the updated release date was supposed to be. Then she said, 'Hrm...sir one moment please'. I said, 'Hrm? That doesn't sound good.' And she said something is wrong because the Galaxy Nexus doesn't pull up in her equipment guide today. She said it did yesterday and had a date of the 15th. But today, *poof* nothing about the Galaxy Nexus in her system. She could find information about accessories, but not the phone. Take this with a grain of salt, but methinks there is more stormy weather ahead for big red nexus fans. :(
