So who's still on Board to pick up a Verizon LTE Galaxy Nexus?

I called but I just got a robot so I sent an email asking. *shrug

Call VZW now (eg as soon as you read this) and let them know you're planning on upgrading but you don't know when you'll be eligible, more than likely they'll be able to adjust your account so when the Nexus does hit you'll be good to go. I wouldn't wait until getting to the store -- depending on where you live and when you go, you don't want to first address this on site.

Hope that helps...

Something about this wait is making me consider an iPhone 4s for the first time. My daughter has a 4 and I love the smooth operation and the excellent camera. I've had many androids, and the best so far for me is my current Incredible2. However, I want a new/different phone. I don't have 4g in my area so I'm thinking that an iPhone would be a better investment for now. Android phones lose value pretty quickly - I know, since I've purchased a few right after release for $$$$, then sold them a few months later for $. iPhone might keep its value a bit longer, so that I could get more for it as soon as Android shows me something I can't resist. I just wish the damn iPhone screen was bigger. That's all that's holding me back. That, and I think I will be bored with the UI pretty quickly. Someone talk me off the fence, please, and please don't flame me just because I might want an iPhone for a bit. I will still have my Optimus Slider on Virgin Mobile for weekends at my place in the mountains (no VZW service, just Sprint) for when I need a little Android fix. I doubt it will get ICS, but it's not a bad little phone.

I don't know I think the hardware is pretty decent.

Also if you notice it has technology that no other phone has such as a barometer, NFC, facial recognition and HDMI over USB. I also heard you can plug a hard drive into the phone which would be cool.

CPU doesn't = hardware. There are other things there too.

The hardware isn't a deal-breaker for me -- I don't need the most cutting-edge hardware out there. The real reason why I'm so stoked about this phone is the direct connection to Google, eg the updates. It's not that it's the FIRST ICS phone, it's that it's going to be first to get Google/ICS updates, tweaks, etc. Waiting on Motorola/VZW for Droid X updates has been an exercise in frustration: one problem gets addressed with each update but two new ones appear.

Despite the hardware being only decent -- not sub-standard -- I think that a direct pipeline to Google updates is a huge advantage. And in three, six and nine months there will be handsets with better hardware out there -- and in three, six and nine months after that, the same thing will apply. So getting the best hardware is a futile goal (unless you like running up a down escalator).

I believe the facial recognition is baked into the OS. I don't believe it's exclusive to the GN.

The barometer isn't something I think is really crucial, but that is indeed unique to the Nexus (at the moment). NFC is going to be included in many if not all of the forthcoming Droid handsets, and the facial recognition thing is built into ICS, not the hardware itself (which means that any recent model Droid will eventually be able to duplicate this feat, either with ICS or a likely add-on).

Not sure about HDMI/USB but I don't use the phone for media (my DroidX has a HDMI port in it that's never been used). If that's specific to this model, neato-bandito. I'm talking overall performance, and I think the specs are decent but not jaw-dropping. And in six months, they may be downright mediocre or sub-par once the next wave of phones is ready to arrive.

I'm still on board. My upgrade isn't technically until the 29th and while I may have gotten Vzw to move it up, I keep my cool by reminding myself that it's not due until then anyway lol.

My only problem is that if this release is true (which it's probably not, but then again it may be) I will have to call CS on the 15th and order it and chances are the 1-2 business days will make it so that the phone doesn't arrive on Friday and I'm going out of town so I won't get it until Monday... which leads me to believe that it will be released on the 15th, because it would be in my cards to be able to order it and not take it on my trip... sigh. #firstworldproblems

The hdmi/ USB is through the mhl port. The gs2 has it, as well as the rezound and any other high end HTC phone from the last six months.

The barometer helps with GPS. I read that some where.

And yes I know the software aspects are ICS but the nexus is the only product with ICS atm.

I know future phones will have NFC but there isn't any others out right now.

The CPU is a 1.2ghz dual core but the OMAP4460 operates at up to 1.5 GHz - so root it and O/C it. :)

[DEVS/KERNEL] Galaxy Nexus 1.4GHz overclock + Undervolting patches - xda-developers

When you say "future" phones, you mean phones forthcoming in the next three months. And just like you can overclock this one, you'll be able to overclock those. So the hardware will still remain somewhat of a detriment. For me, it's acceptable -- but the hardware isn't the reason to buy the phone. The real plus is direct, unencumbered updates from Google -- in theory.

I doubt the reason for the delay has anything to do will selling other devices. Verizon ultimately doesn't care what device you buy. They are more interested in getting you under contract. Even so,the Galaxy Nexus has little to no chance of outselling the Droid branded devices. The average consumer doesn't know what a Galaxy Nexus is and unless Verizon or Samsung or Google go on a marketing blitz they will continue to not know.

Well, just look at how Verizon treats non-Droid brand phones on their marketing and it doesn't take much thought to figure out what they want to sell most. They want all their bloats and total control of updates and Nexus is completely opposite of that. If this is just another verizon droid phone with their bloats and update control, I bet they would already have released it in November. As for sales, this phone will sell itself even for average folks. If this is displayed in store along side the Razr, Rezound with beautiful HD SAMOLED screen, the latest android OS and smooth running feature rich UI, what would they choose? We will soon see how it does.

Nope. I gave up on it weeks ago after really thinking it through and deciding the hardware was to limited and not cutting edge enough, even more so with 2012 just around the corner, and that there is zero special about this phone other than ICS and that will come to all new phones soon in 2012, so what's so special.

Now, since then and since getting hated on heavily in this forum for saying such, I am even more convicted after watching this laughable unfolding of events.

Wow......Its been a while and were all still talking about when the LTE GNex will actually hit shelves!

So many of us were excited for the GNex, formally the Prime. We were all in belief that by Thanks Giving we would be enjoying some Ice Cream Sandwiches after our Turkey. Well we all know how that turned out...what a let down on Verizon/Google's part.

Anyway....Here we are 2 weeks before Christmas and we still don't have a date set in stone, sorry guys...I choose not to believe rumors anymore, so the 15th to me is about as good as the 9th was...

Either way....I'm Curious as to who is left out of all my fellow forum peeps that are still holding out? Some have choose to go in other directions with the Droid Razr, the Rezound, and some have even went total AWOL, and turned to the Fruit and IOS.

I must admit, my desire to own the Nexus has diminished alot, the wait basically killed my joy towards owning this phone...I'm one of the people that gave into the Hype of the Razr...and for the most part... I'm pretty happy with my decision. But something about ICS still grabs me, and most likely I will pick one up retail and give it a whirl and put it through its paces. If I get blown away, I'll sell my Razr and keep the Nexus. If it fails to impress me I'll take the $35 hit and return it. Either way, I feel like the GNex and ICS at least deserves me to give it a try and see if all the Hype was worth this crazy wait.

So who's in? Who's still on the GNex ICS train?

Gotta have it. No doubt.

I still plan to get one, ordered my case on Amazon last night, hoping for Thursday release. I get my wife's upgrade, and I am still eligible in January for another on my line. So, if I don't like it, I can trade for a Rezound, or hold on until something better is released, and sell the Nexus. I am hoping I don't miss Sense as much as I think I will. Either way, I will be there at 9 am the day it goes on sale.

Also, i agree the hardware is not mind blowing, most notably the camera, but you can't sit and wait for the next best thing, cell phone technology is moving at too fast a pace.

Got off the GN train and bought an iPhone 4S over a week ago. Loving it. Of course I miss 4G and the customization, 4G the most though. Still, I may sell it next year and get back to Android. We'll see what's out next spring.

So, I'm not the only one thinking of going with an iPhone for a while. I won't even miss 4g. It's not available in my area anyway. Does the small screen bother you?
