i mean, the way i see it is, the update is coming from the people who created the problem in the first place.....

Yeah. And also, isnt the easy wifi and all that a major battery hog? You guys are talking about the fix for rebooting. I wanna see how it is overall. Im not here to start a war I'm js. There should be a list of the good outcomes of 2.2.2 update. And not just the Fixed my reboot thanks choice. And also, some of us managed to not upgrade our phones to 2.2.2 which caused it to bootloop. Show a process on how to get back to normal if the bootloop failed just in case and explain how it got bootlooped in the first place. Im just saying, I see many people barge in and try new things for the hell of it. I just wanna hear good things about the update. An overall review. Is it worth it or not? Should we wait to update until its rooted? Do any roms compare with the stock rom? Not here to cause trouble. But if you guys are saying it fixed rebooting then prove it. State the facts.

Actually none of the roms that I have flashed onto my phone have made it any better on the other hand it just gets worse. So IMO if u dont want to upgrade your phone or don't need to just let others be? I think that would help alot

If you had the issue at one time, you'd understand. This is from my point of view: I had a Motorola bar phone a while back...it kinda stopped working so I wanted to get a new one. Found the OM at a decent price and ordered it online. Waited. ...Delivered. (I was so excited when I finally got it.) Open box. Turn the phone on...and in less than 5 minutes it had rebooted twice. That same day, about 6 times. The phone has been (freezing then) rebooting *at least once a day since I got it in July. I've tried every rom on the OM, including the Sense, Kelso's, TCE, Bobzhome, Reppard, Playfulgod, and even CM7beta. Every recovery and OC kernel too. You have no idea how frustrating it was. Reboots while texting, while talking, surfing the web, anything. I couldn't even play a game without it rebooting.
...then I heard about this...I updated and to my surprise it worked. My phone hasn't rebooted or even froze...not even one force close since my first post on this thread. And to me, I'd rather a stable phone than a rooted one.
That's my facts. You could ask others who had the issue before the update, they'd tell you the same.

Im js. I never experienced and reboot issues. But my other phone has, but it was on 2.2.2 so thats why I find the update to have no effect. Its not even like a memory issue. It does it barely but it will soon happen!

The phone I use primarily has the reboot issues, and the two other phones my employees have do not have the reboot problems.

This update from LG definitely fixed the phone with the problem. I don't use it because the phone lacks features that the CM7 ROMS have but it did fix the force close/freeze/reboot problem. Downgraded and ROM'd, the problem returns.

I never tried it on the other phones. Why fix what isn't broken lol

I'd like to find out what is different with this update that stops the reboot problem. If we can figure that out and apply it to our custom ROMS that would rock because as far as I can tell the update doesn't affect OM's that don't have the issue.

If your phone had the reboot issue, then this update should fix it. If it doesn't fix it, then your phone's issue isn't like the rest. This update's 2.2.2 isn't the same that was released in like August or that was sold with some of the newer phones. (even some of the newer phones, shipping with 2.2.2, had the reboot issue) This update is newer, if you read the build.prop or any of the info on the kernel you'll see that the updated 2.2.2 was built less than a month ago, and released just recently. So I'd say, if your 2.2.2 OM is still suffering with chronic reboots/freezes/force closes, update it. Also, saying that its not worth it is kind of far fetched. As far as rooting and roms, I have faith that this can be rooted. ShortFuse is currently working on a SuperOneClick to root the newly updated LG phones. I can wait.

Anywhoo. Has anyone gotten good battery? Or better yet. Provide details why some people werent able to successfully update to 2.2.2? And lets not jump to wrong drivers installed and all that. I installed all 3 lg drivers. And didnt work for me. So if anyone could please post a fix around this?

Hey, I was just being informative.
But yeah the battery, I'd say is pretty much the same as stock. The background services don't drain the battery too much. And without the ability to OC, the battery would last longer than a lot of what we're used to, I guess. It lasts a full day on one charge and I mostly just text. Though, now that I find myself using my phone more, the battery does drain faster, but nothing to really be concerned about.

About the drivers, it wouldn't be that cause the update finds and installs the drivers for you, without them the software wouldn't even download the file.

Myself and others have found that similar problem of it not working or boot looping. The file is around 100mb...and on my connection it took forever to download. I found out the problem with mine was that my internet connection kept dropping out and the download progress would continue, collecting null data. So when it came to install, the install file had been corrupted causing the bootloops. So I decided to stay at my computer and make sure it didn't disconnect. Make sure you have a solid connection. Also, don't allow your computer to fall asleep while its downloading.

Also there are some other things I've noticed: this build has a WMA codec, CM7* doesn't. (I found that out when I copied music from WMP) This doesn't allow you to stream videos, such as MP4 and 3gp, whereas CM7 did. (I don't remember the earlier builds but I guess they were similar.) This update has the Rhapsody App. YouTube, Maps, Search and Market were already updated. I don't think any other apps were updated. *References to Reppard's CM7.

Damn. So basically theres more bloat? And I cant live with the stock battery. Im constantly texting outside lol. As for the internet dropping, it never did. Installation of downloading and updating took more than 10 mins. I would try again but the 2nd and 3rd time didnt work for me.

Guys - PLEASE make a new post about it if this new kernel ever gets compiled into CM7.... PLEASE? I too have tried them all, and I apparently have one of the bad OMs as well. Reppard's CM7 is the most reliable so far, but it still FC's/reboots several times a day... annoying as all hell when it happens during a call.
I just can't afford to deal with all of metro's bloatware... I need this little phone to multitask better than what a stock OM can do with all that extra Metrocrap running in the background.

Of course, the FC's/reboots never happen unless I'm in the middle of an important call. In fact, some of my family members/colleagues are accusing me of just using it as an excuse for hanging up on them. (which I've never done... yet. But the thought HAS crossed my mind. lol)

Folks, the reboots are not caused by the ROMs themselves. The kernel used in all of the CM7 roms is the same kernel used in the 2.2.1 stock rom. That kernel is faulty. Yeah it works fine for some OMs, but if you have one like mines, your phone doesn't play nicely with that kernel. If your phone reboots, absolutely nothing will fix it besides the kernel in this update.

I'm convinced that this phone will be rootable in the next few weeks. So that being said, you just root, then flash a recovery, followed by the rom. Couldn't you remove a kernel from a ROM so that it doesn't flash over this new kernel? I mean like you wouldn't be able to OC, but you would have a CM7 without the reboots.

I just Updated my phone. sooo goodbye root and roms for now. and hopefully this helps me out with the rebooting and freezing.

Don't assume that.
Just as 2.2 and 2.2.1 was able to be rooted, I'm sure this will be able too. I don't think the recovery would be too hard as the getitnow and the clockwork recovery are rather general when it comes to versions. And the roms should be simple to flash, as long as the hardware is the same. Though, I do agree the kernel's configuration would be different and I see where that could be a problem. But I'll still try it. I've recovered the phone before. No biggie.

No need to downgrade. Just download the lg mobile support tool from here, install it on your pc, then plug in your phone to the pc. The software will recognize your phone and will tell you there is an update available. Start the update (will take awhile), and once it restarts you will have 2.2.2 on the stock ROM, bloatware and all

Both Shortfuse and DooMLoRD (and a few others) are working on methods of root for the newly updated LG devices. Shortfuse developed the SuperOneClick and DooMLoRD does the ZergRush. Just like this version, people were skeptical of 2.2 and 2.2.1 being rooted.
I'm sure it can and will happen, just not sure when.

Well, let's see for quite some time people have been saying they can root there 2.2.2. I personally don't know of anyone being successful. You HAVE to take it back to 2.2.1 first to get root. When you do use gingerbreak. IT works. Once I did that everything was fine. I also put Reppards custom from on and it is great. Everything works, NO issues. Now my Optimus fly. Wow. Welcome to the new and improved Opt M. Oh yeah if you wanna by a new one I hear they have now put Gingerbread 2.3.4 on them, LG has NO plans for an update.

Oh yeah, the new Opt M having Gingerbread on it comes straight from Metro just check out the spec's.

I rooted my Optimus M after updating to 2.2.2 just fine... with no issues whatsoever.
AND, it's rock-stable now with the new kernel.
