After a week of ownership I think I can give a
n adequate review, however I haven't messed with the camera at all. So I'll skip that.
Coming from a droid x, I haven't seen anything to tempt me away from it until the razr. Once I found out that I'd keep my unlimited data and I could get a ne2 pricing I started researching. Boiled down to the rezound or razr. The major deal breakers with the razr was how awkward it felt in hand and no removable battery. The x is also awkward and I've dropped it more than any phone I've ever owned. So I fondled the rezound, like the heft and way it sits in hand. Also really like how it looks. Always thought the incredible was a great looking phone and this has obvious detail cues from the incredible. Reviews have been good so I bought it.
First impression, this is a sleek, aesthetically appealing phone. It doesn't look childish, trendy but with the red details it's like understated cool.
The screen is beautiful, it isn't as vibrant as the razr or as bright but it is very clear and just a pleasure to view. The touch function is accurate and responsive. The utter lack of hard keys is a big plus for me. Although the two stage camera button was a useful on the dx, I don't miss it. I carry my phones in a pocket and buttons tend to get pushed when you don't want them to be, so I'll trade the minor inconvenience of the power button over the big inconvenience of a dead battery or pocket calls/photos etc.
Sense. I like it. I've tweaked it a bit but really love how it looks and feels. Much more streamlined than my pseudo sense created on my dx with fancy widgets and launcher pro and leagues better than motoblur.
Calls both on blue ant blue tooth and regular have been great. I don't like using speaker phone so I haven't tried it. It's been quite awhile since I've had a phone that had poor call quality though.
Signal. The antenna doesn't seem as good as the dx, it's about a bar less on average but the dx has a great antenna. I get screaming 4g speeds in my area. 27.97 mbps dl and 12.67 up is my best score to date using speed test. My dsl gets 4-5 mbps and that's premium dsl.
Battery. Although I know battery tech is falling behind gizmo tech it's still a bit dissapointing. My dx under the same stresses rarely needed a bump charge during my 12 hour work shift. The rezound can lose 40% just streaming netflix on my lunch. It's a hassle but pretty much par for the course with most high end smart phones. I suspect it would make it a full morning to night if used only as a phone and not a portable lap top.
The keyboard is very nice. I love the trace option. Works like a regular keyboard that you can also swype on. I have experienced some keyboard lag. Nothing like the dx though. I also like the word prediction and the way it handles purposely misspelled words and names better than the dx.
Beats. Well I have to admit modern music sounds great. Amazing the bass those tiny ear buds produce. It's obviously bass oriented but not muddy. Highs are crisp, mids are clear but toned down. I would like to have alternative eq settings. Music was mastered much differently in the pre mp3 age. Overall it's nice, add the "free headphones" and it's a pretty good deal.
Highlights, display, form factor and blazing smooth speed both the phone itself and the LTE network.
The lows, battery life and this phone gets pretty warm.
I'm happy with the purchase and thus far the Rezound has been flawless. I wasn't sure the Rezound would "feel" like an upgrade other than the LTE speeds but it feels like a full upgrade. Almost as much as going from the enV touch to the dx. Great phone.
I tell you what though, I learned a whole lot about ADB Shell and parted... So it wasn't for nothing.
