Because 6 weeks is like 6 years in phone years.

If there were other devices coming out on VZW that had better specs, but afaik there aren't any new phones (other than the droid 4, which isn't really a competitor) coming out between 11/17 and 12/31. I agree with the phone years thing, but in this case I want the things only a nexus can give me and the other features/specs of the phone still aren't going to be surpassed before 12/31, so I personally would not call it "outdated" if it releases even on 12/31.

I'm having a hard time judging how in demand this device will be...The only launch day I have experience with is the OG Droid and I walked in at 5PM and they had plenty, so not sure where this falls.

I completely agree. I bought my OG on launch day and called mid-afternoon to see if they still had any left. They laughed at me (still going through therapy )

Is it the consensus that VZW will definitely issue a PR before selling the phone (whenever that may be)? They won't stealthily allow stores to start selling?

I'm as impatient as the next guy for this phone, but statements like this calling it outdated don't make sense to me.

If it were released on the 11/17 rumored date, even releasing 12/31 it's only like 6 weeks later. How is the nexus outdated? No other phone will have ICS anytime soon afaik and the specs of the nexus are fairly strong, so until we see phones in late Q1/early Q2, I don't think it will be outdated.

By the time any tech is released to joe public tech is usually outdated by about 6 months. That is how quickly Technology R&D is. That is why everyone claims to be the best and the next best thing is right around the corner. Every so often there is a major advancement the last big one was when Steve Jobs announced the iPhone

It's funny how we still haven't learned anything from this and can still say a date is "a lock" (not putting you down, just pointing out a common way of thinki we all share). I think even after hearing it is for sale I will not believe it till I pay for it. But I'm with you and the 15th does seem like the next target date.

Perhaps a after "it's a lock" would have gotten the message across a bit more effectively... lol

I'm with you. Not until I've bought it and it's home will I be happy.

It won't be outdated in terms of software ..it will be out dated in terms hardware..hell its not even the best specs right now..by summer 2012 the quad core should be available ..also running ice cream sandwich ..

Tegra 3 phones should be coming out around March IIRC, those phones will likely be made for ICS. It's only appeal to me now is it's a Nexus phone that will get updates first.

The way I look at it (pessimistic as it may be) a phone like this is over 3 months old - which at the current rate of improvement is pretty old, IMO - 6 months being the cut-off for "too old to be worth it."

If you think about when the device was done being manufactured... it was well before the announcement date. So I would add a month or two to the mid-October announcement day and then some.

Sad face..... but I still want one so bad! It will feel blazing fast to me after using an OG droid since Nov. 6th 2009 (release day) and will more than satisfy me for a year at least

(OT: although I sure do wish it was going to be adapted to a padphone like lenovo or whoever is going to do - this was my idea the second I saw the atrix ^_^)

I agree with you 100%. Verizon may very well never have another phone like this.

Im not buying the whole Tegra 3 hype.. Half the time the software doesn't catch up until the newest chipsets are out anyway. We will be on the Tegra 4 before guys start writing apps for the 3.

All I (and most of us) really need to see is a picture showing the 15th. It would quell so many rumors. It wouldn't be in stone but it would atleast help.

The main thing, and i'm not being sarcastic, is that there is no consensus on anything w/ this phone. Everything is speculation outside the fact that stores have stock and what the managers are telling us.

All these leaks and no information from Verizon should at least let us realize that there is no consensus. We are all going to find out last minute together.

I have a dinc I've had since early 2010, so I'm not new to Android. I still don't think a few weeks makes the nexus outdated. If you all think that, why are you bothering to wait for this particular phone? wait a bit longer and get a quad core or wait for 2nd generation LTE

Bad news -- just called telesales, they're not allowed to sell Nexus accessories! The rep I spoke to said that anyone who's gotten them has basically just gotten lucky. The SKUs are in the system, but are not allowed to be sold until the release of the phone, the date of which he was unable to tell me. Lame.

EDIT: Didn't see alee's post, looks like I'm not the only one who tried.

FYI, I was also able to order the accessories via *611 on last wednesday. They had to transfer me to telesales since the CSR couldn't redeem my Living Social $50. You may try that route as well.

They said it was originally scheduled for the 9th and had to delay the "official launch to Dec. 15th", and to begin selling units at all locations upon opening Thursday morning.

Like I said, FWIW... could be guys jerking me around, but they seemed pretty condident, as if it were common knowledge.

Until Verizon sends a last minute email on the 14th telling them all to stand down.

Actually, what i heard from the corporate store is it will just be available someday, no announcement at all....

Yes. Evervolv has one in progress, and R2 has one up at rootzwiki. Seems they're already gotten most things working properly.

Precisely, but March is 3+ months away, not 2 weeks away. I don't see how people can say the phone will be outdated if it comes out on 12/31 instead of 12/15. Seems like hyperbole to me. *shrug*
