OT: Another Verizon screw up
Anyone in Jersey get the mass text from VZW at about 12:30 saying there was a civil emergency and to take immediate shelter and cover? They just announced that it was a test, but they conveniently forgot to mention in the message that it was only a test. So they're not just screwing up our Nexus, folks...

In NJ, but nothing here. That honestly would've scrared the ba-jeezus out of me except for the fact that I sit in front of a computer all day so could've just looked online for this emergency.

About Dropping phones...

I had an original droid that I dropped and shatterd the glass.. i had a friend with a droid 2 do the same thing (she is now using my samsung charge and loving it) I also have seen several pix of a droid 2/3 and Razr's that were shattered after dropping...

the thing these all have in common is the gorrila glass ... while great at keeping from getting scratched it seems to be so hard that it will shatter ...

in two of the cases I was able to get the glass replaced for $60 including shipping directly from motorola.. and they replaced my droid x for free since the camera buttonb broke.

Well I won't be overclocking because of battery life. I really want a 4G phone more than ICS. I have played with ICS. Again, not blown away. It's very nice but I guess after all the hype I was expecting more. Just starting to feel kind of blah about the Nexus. By the time it come out CES will be right around the corner and they will showcase phones that will blow the Nexus away. The Nexus specs aren't all that great to begin with IMO.

Like I said, I have two upgrades next year so I can go 9-12 months on the Rezound and then upgrade to a phone superior to the Nexus and I probably won't have to wait three months for it. Just my two cents.

I am dying to get rid of my BB Storm 2 and jump into the Android/4G arena. In fact, I've wanted a new phone for over a year, but have always put it off because I knew that there was something better right around the corner.

A few months ago we learned of 3 phones - the Razr, Rezound, and Nexus (not to mention the iPhone 4S) that would be competing at the top of Verizon's lineup. At the time, the Nexus really had a leg up on the competition, so it stands to reason that it would still have a leg up on the competition now or next week, since nothing better has come out. Still, phones seem to really only have a few months where they are king before the next best thing, and although the delay hasn't knocked the Nexus from its place, it has really cut back the time frame in which it can be the best.

For that reason I hear you with the Nexus losing some of its allure, and have considered a Rezound...but I really think waiting a little longer is the wise decision for me.

I over clocked with an under volt and actually saved battery. In that same instance those I have also just under volt'd.

I don't know why one would be in a rush to over clock a brand new phone. Like buying a Corvette so you can supe it up. Just enjoy it.

I think you all are missing the point, the OMAP 4460 is rated for 1.5 GHz. It's already under-clocked, so technically its not being overclocked.

It's more like buying a Corvette with a chip to limit the top speed and you're removing the chip to experience what you paid for.

No offense, but are you kidding? :)

Just get yourself a used, unlocked, (fill in GSM phone of choice here) to use over there and when you get back you'll be able to get

a. A cheap Gnex
b. A better device for less cash

IMO I would get a used fruit phone, it makes a great camera and media player and are well integrated over there.

Good day nexians,

Beginning to feel the irritation. I'm leaving the country soon (Jan 3rd) and living in Spain for 6 months - I was planning on putting the line on hold and using the SGN on wifi and as an mp3 player and camera until coming back to the states in August.

Now, if I wanted to spite Verizon for BSing me with release dates (someone else tried to sell me a rezound today -_- ) and not getting back to my customer support requests, do any of you have recommendations for a dedicated camera and a dedicated mp3 player I could purchase instead of the SGN?

Yep, iPod Touch. :)

:(
Can't believe I'm actually considering the dark side. Surely there's something better outside the apple ecosystem? Something based on android with a better camera? Is it really the best mp3/camera out there? Anyone have ideas if I want something dedicated to each function (one mp3 player, one camera)?

So I just tried 2 CSRs and asked about the $100 3G -> 4G discount. They both said they can't honor it.

Could someone tell me how they got the CSR to apply the discount to their account? It would be really nice :) Thanks in advance.

*611, pressed 0 immediately. Reason for call: Upgrade.

I said I'm calling about the midwest region (key!!) promotional discount on a 3G to 4G upgrade of $100. I was wondering if this can be applied to my account. She put me on mute for a minute as she looked up the promotion. She then found it and notated my account that I was approved for it (only can be applied at purchase). I inquired how the store rep would see the discount and she said the store sales person would have to check the notes on the account since they have access to the same system/notes she was composing.

I did the above yesterday, and redid it again today to verify it was noted. Worked first time both calls.

P.S. It apparently expires on 12/31.

Then how come others got the discount without lying? IIRC a few people asked and received the discount without lying.

If they called about the discount on the flier without having received the flier, then they did lie.

Take the moral high ground, Scott.

If you were entitled to it, your account would already be flagged. That's they key, I believe. Mine wasn't, so no discount for me.

So I email a customer that their ship date is 12/19.

The response..... Thanks. Does that mean you can ship me some for delivery on the 16th?.

Ugh! What is wrong with people???!!!?????

I work in retail and trust me girl, I TOTALLY feel your pain. It's actually cathartic to read these threads because the idiot ratio is so much lower than in real life. :D

I didn't lie. I just inquired if it could be applied to my account (see my last post). What does anyone have to lose outside of time by just calling and asking? I think it's dumb to NOT try...worst case scenario you don't get it.

Well should have my Galaxy Nexus on Thurs. Just in case I have a Galaxy Note being delivered tomorrow. I'll be messing around with good stuff all week. I will, however, return the Note when Nexus arrives. Can't live with AT&T.

What hell??? So you are getting a Note to hold you over for 2 days? :eek:I'm confused, but also a little jealous...:D

Just got the call from my Verizon store guys, they said the 15th is a go and he set me up an appointment for 9 am. This was the same scenario as last week, so I won't hold my breath but the rep has been nothing but honest with me and has called me a few times giving me updates so I trust what he is telling me. I asked him how sure this was, and he laughed and said its pretty much 100% unless something drastically changes. Fingers crossed. ;)

Not doubting you and praying your guy is right. But wouldn't that mean he got an e-mail or something. and that we would have heard of it?

I wish they would tell us a little something. Even if it not exactly what happend they could say "we got word and it's a go".....

but again, i hope your guy is right. i can't take this anymore. It has ruined the last month for me. Can't wait for the day to end so the next day will come and hope of news. I have wasted a full month......

You know, I'm starting to care less about ROM's. They're almost more trouble than they're worth. Most of them have inferior battery life and other bugs or issues. I just want my phone to work and be smooth. That's the one thing I really miss about the iPhone. I've not seen an Android phone yet that's as smooth as an iPhone. I just hate iTunes and the inability to customize anything on an iPhone.

There is NO perfect phone out there.....not even the magical Nexus. Maybe next fall.

+1

My wife has the same opinion and I don't blame either one of you one bit. Her Evo Shift is not rooted, gives her well over a day of use without any tricks whatsoever, the bloatware doesn't affect her, her phone runs smooth and she's happy with the Sense interface because every part of it that she uses just works and works well. Everything she needs lives on the seven homescreens, she goes to the app drawer once every blue moon.

Had our first (or even my second) Android phones run as well as that, I'd have never bothered to discover and pursue rooting.

She doesn't want me rooting her phone and under the theory of not fixing something that isn't broken, I couldn't be happier.

Everything is a trade-off and you nailed it - there is no perfect phone, just the perfect phone for you (or as close as you can get) at the time.

Yup, I got it. I heard that it only went out to three counties, though, and only VZW customers using Android phones. Interesting.
