I am having Signal issues in my house, while my Wifes RAZR works fine..

When Her RAZR shows 4 bars my Eris shows 1 or none.. this is with the phones next to each other.

After talking with the Technical Support and since it is past my 30days she was ging to allow me to switch phones so i am going to give the Motorola a go.. I hope I like it, the bigger size might be better. but I need to have a good signal in my house. I am also concerned that getting another Eris might cause the same problems, Although it may not.. but it is a great phone and I do like it, but cannot chance the no signal issue..

Thanks

Not sure this helps but my eris shows hardly any signal and my husbands droid shows full bars...i was like you very concerned..i have had mine for about 2 months and never had a dropped call...have accidently muted a few and thought they dropped...learning curve..I originally had the droid...hated it...i had lots of dropped calls even with full bars..

Well I actually had dropped calls on the Eris, jsut sitting in a chair not really moving.

The Tech I spoke to tonight said it looks like a Phone issue and was allowing me to swap outside of the 30day window to something else if I wanted. I was having a tough decision on keeping the Eris at the end of my 30, but decided now that I will switch

Does your husband like his Droid?

Yes, Garbled nosies in calls and have had actual dropped calls.. never really had a dropped call with my old RAZR2

Yea, we got caught cross posting :D

While the bars icon is an ok way of checking signal, the better way is by going into DEBUG on the phone and looking at the signal strength.

You can get into DEBUG by:

pull up the dialer
dial ##33284
Select 1x Engineering
Scroll down to Rx Power

yes and no...he likes the screen...the camera is better than the eris...he thought he had to have a slide keyboard(because I had the omnia the worst touch phone)but in the end he never uses it..he does think it's bulky..i had the droid and returned it..I hated it...was very leery about getting the eris because of the talk about it being the little brother...in the end I love my phone...i can do pretty much everything the droid does but with a smaller more streamlined phone..it could be a bad phone...I personally would try another eris..sorry for the long windedness..

Thanks.. I don't expect to use the hard keyboard much, but might. Phone might fit better in my hand too, Eris tends to feel small to me too.

Again I DO like it, but with the issues, I am leery to try another.

That said, I would still recommend the Eris as it is a great phone

I think it's more a software glitch with the bars.

I have both a Verizon Blackberry Curve (Work) and HTC Eris (Play)

Side by Side my Verizon Blackberry Shows 4 Bars and my Eris shows 2...sometimes 3 Bars.

When I drill down to the actual phone status settings, they BOTH show -80dBm

So for me, the Bars mean nothing.

For comparison, I have 2 bars and it's says -75. On my other older phone it has 3 bars and is bouncing from -73 to -85.

Once you start getting over -90 the phone will start to have problems.

Gotcha.. again, If I did not have dropped calls I would not be exchanging. but the garbled/dropped stuff I will not deal with for 2 years

Yes I agree, but a Dropped call means Everything

RX Power is -91dBm
RX Ec/IO -8.5db

oh and the -83 reading and -91 reading are from me sitting in my easy chair watching TV. so Phone was in the same place (within 3-6") of before

Yea, you can leave the phone sitting stationary and the signal can vary WIDELY. This is most likely due to the cell site "breathing". As more users utilize the site, the coverage will actually shrink to accommodate the higher traffic level.

I had the same problem you had with your eris
and with my motorola droid not having signal...however my env touch had at least one or two bars...

I would have delays in receiving text...sometimes i wouldn't get calls

So i paid 200 bucks for an extended network...Provided i always have an internet connection then I always have a perfect signal now

Yes that is an option, but the tech told me that I had a bunch of dropped calls on 5 different tower locations. while the Network Extender would help. If I did not need it for my RAZR2, then why should I need it for a newer phone on the SAME network

While i agree with everyone that the "bars" mean diddly (although it would be nice if they were more accurate on this phone) if you were dropping calls there is probably something wrong with your particular phone. The bars concerned me too so I took it and the Storm to a low signal area with the eris reading nothing, and the storm showing 1 bar (man I wish I could get the actual reading on it like on a curve/pearl/etc in place of antennea) and both phones connected test calls and sounded fine. I'll try that debug trick to see actual readings, most phones I've had showed "max bars" at anywhere close to -80 db and typically talked fine up to -95 where issues started occurring. But hooray for seeing this thread I can grab my LG tester from work and compare signal readings now between the phones, or find the wife's old pearl and geek out now woohoo.
Oh yeah willdogs hold down alt and type nmll (i think, if its wrong I'll edit) and your signal meter will change from bars to an actual -XX db reading on that curve's screen. way more useful!

Hmmm...a razr2 having a better signal then a 2009 phone that recently came out is bizarre.

But like someone said before...it may the phone itself and not exactly the network.

I've noticed out of the 12 phones I've had from verizon, my blackberry storm...as shitty as it was actually had the best signal...i had a blackberry storm back in August of 2009 and I got my extended network shortly after thanksgiving.....

I've read somewhere that people who have 2 different phones on the same network aren't showing the same signal...

My droid gets a better reception in my classrooms then my eris...idk why though

But the extended network helps a lot...I was soo miserable without it..haha
