I rooted my Droid X no problem but looking at the many different sites with ways to unlock the bootloader a little differently, I seem to be getting more confused and very afraid to mess up this phone I have waited so long to get. Can someone do a YouTube tutorial? That would be awesome.everyone is so helpful here that I wish someone would do that for us..

There will likely be several videos to see after launch. The GNex **Shouldn't** be locked down like your X, so the process should be much easier. I plan on staying with the initial experience until a good rom comes out, then I will root.

No love on the $100 promotion for me today. The CSR immediately said this was a promotion they WERE running but are no longer. I didn't really push it very hard, but I wonder if maybe VZ caught on and are putting a stop to it. Hopefully not the case for everyone.

Yeah, I have tried, but my Dinc died on me in August after a trip through the washing machine, so I had to use my upgrade then, I am WAY too far from getting one to really push it. I just want this phone too bad, but at the time there was no real solid info that Verizon was going to get it, so I didn't think to just buy a replacement off contract. (And I cancel insurance on my phones as soon as I am eligible for an upgrade.)

That makes sense. Sorry to hear that by the way. Well, I guess in that case $280 is a small price to pay to get your phone now. And who really notices $10/mo. anyway? I spend more than that on razors, lol. (real razors, not the phone haha).

Sooo... I go to sleep pumped that I'm going to be one day closer to a Gnex on Thursday. Now we are already talking about that not happening?

Guys, I don't know how much longer I can do this. My work is taking a toll and I need to step it up. The constant rumors are affecting my life.

We need a support group for everyone I think...

I have yet to post anything regards a date as I know so many are puked out over dates by now. At any rate, I am retired so I sleep when I feel like it (which is nice) but you do miss stuff.

The manager from the Corp VZW store I use had texted me at 9:33pm last night to call him. I didn't wake til 3:30am so I couldn't call til just now (his personal cell). I had had an appointment for Thursday morning so I was relatively sure it was bad news.

But I just got off the phone with him (yes, early I know but we are friends of many years). It seems the big focus now is to make 100% sure or as close as possible that all phones properly released are updated with their "new" update immediately.

That said, he had to push my appointment to Friday the 16th. He stated that was based on information he and other area managers received last evening about the OTA update not being ready for a Thursday morning release. In his words, they were told it was only a matter of hours difference and the "okay" could still come during the day Thursday.

The sales material for the in-store advertising and such wont be put up until Thursday after close and the first true sales day not actually begin until Friday. At any rate, take it with the normal grain of salt of course.

He summarized by saying that it was going to be a "soft" launch initially and that whatever the delay was from the 9th was being taken care of with the now almost frantic "must be updated" on activation. I am East coast and haven't read any of the 20th rumors so if true, that information wouldn't be available to him until he get's to his store.

We are going to hear rumors, and I don't like the timing (48 hours prior was the same time the 9th got pushed back), but lets see what happens as the day goes on.

Thanks for the info. BUT, I'm still trying to figure out whats the big deal about the OTA. I believe everyone who got one early isn't complaining about any issues, so why is there a big concern about getting an OTA as SOON as you get the phone.

I hope they don't go through all the updating and set up and stuff when I pick it up. I will be "slipping" out of work at 8:45 (hoping no one notices me) I don't have time for them to screw around with it. I want to give them my $300 and walk out with an un-opened box and a sim card. I will activate it myself.

That's why I haven't posted any date information. He seems extremely optimistic (and this guy is very pragmatic) that the end is in sight. He had zero info on why the update was "so frantic" either. I did fail to mention he was told it would only add 6-8 minutes per sale.

I really have no idea and apologize if I upset anyone. I had rather know though IF Thursday doesn't materialize that we aren't back to a guess when scenario (at least not as of this minute on the 13th). That is of course given his information being accurate. I know the man to be honest to a fault so he was told this.

I do get the impression from both this and prior VZW business with him that even managerial level employess for VZW are kind of like "mushrooms" (kept in the dark and fed manure).

I'm not getting my hopes up. When the 9th was the rumored date there were a lot more leaks/sources. I haven't seen that for this week. I feel that this week's rumors have been started by only people on these types of forums, no offense. But I feel like we would be hearing a lot more news if the release date was this week.

Even if the OTA was not ready for in store activations, it would be nice if they just began online and telesales on Thursday. Shipping would take at least a day if overnighted, and by Friday the OTA would then be ready when people open up their shiny new nexi boxes.

Yeah, no problems from you, other than being the messenger. Its just frustrating, as it looks like for the second week in a row, we get to two days before launch to find out it is once again delayed.
