I really thought sprint and the hero would work for me both with cost saving and a phone nearly as good as the iphone. Sadly it's just not going to work out.

I just found out, despite several conversations with sprint before switching that the everything data plan does not receive the 20% business discount. Price savings was one of the biggest reasons for the switch.

Then despite lots of tweaking the phone is pretty laggy at times, the bluetooth has issues staying connected with my headset and truck, and the operation of the phone while good is a bit clunky in comparison to the iphone. And I miss data while talking a lot more than I thought I would.

The killer was a few voice mails that were left Friday that didn't show up until Monday, and a few texts that didn't show for nearly an hour. As it is my business phone that is a deal breaker, a vm not received or a customer feeling ignored would potentially cost me thousands.

You folks are full of good knowledge and helpful and I just wanted to say keep up the good work and have fun!

I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but when I signed up for the Everything Data Family plan, I wasn't even aware of any business discounts. But my salesman asked me, "who is your employer?", and he looked in a database, and said that I was good for a 20% discount. That was back on October 31, 2009, and I've been seeing the discount on my bill every month since then. I'm super-happy.

Maybe you should call a different store.

I have a set up like u do and i do get my 20% off every bill. The only everything data plan that u can not get the 20% on is the $99 plan. Try updating your PRL, Sprints service has been great.

Sounds like you needed to update your profile and PRL. That would most likely fix your delay in receiving VM's and messages.

Also, flashing a custom ROM will get rid of the vast majority of your lag.

I know a few people with Iphones, and they're envious of my Hero.

Can you explain more about the updating. I experience extreme lag in text if I even get them at all.

Really? Just about everyone I know has an iPhone, I only know one person who isn't absolutely enamored with it, and he's frankly a bit of an idiot. I have to say, too, if AT&T's service worked better in my home, I'd probably have one myself because I have an iPod Touch, and think it's one of the most well-designed and user-friendly devices around. FFS, my parents both have iPhones, and the fact that they're able to use them and love them as much as they do without having to call me twice a day to ask how to do this or that is really saying something.

I love my Hero and I think it's hands down the best Sprint phone available, but knowing what I know now, particularly that you actually have to take steps that void your warranty to really get the thing moving as it should, I'm not surprised that I can't think of a single iPhone user that would trade me. Yes, there are things that my Hero can do that an iPhone can't, but for your average person that wouldn't even know what it means to root a phone, let alone bother to do it, the out-of-the-box experience isn't really close, IMO.

Not hatin', just sayin'... :)

I had the 99 simply everything plan, I burn through 4-5000 minutes in the busy season between homeowners, insurance adjusters, mortgage companies, etc. With the extra sprint fee it was a 2 dollar difference from ATT without the unlimited text and voice navigation.

It actually turned out very well, ATT gave me a new jawbone ICON for coming back, and they have a new business plan out.

I can get 4 free samsung flights if I pull some employees phones onto my plan and with all the discounts on the promo it will be 60 bucks per phone unlimited everything.

And no blog, sorry there fella. Already wasted enough time trying to get the hero to be almost as good as an Iphone, let alone have a blog. It's too bad the hero has to be gutted to perform decently.

Toasty is completely right, out of the box is a no contest between iphone and hero, even semi tweaked the hero didn't give a close performance. bluetooth, texting, and ease of use just aren't there with hero standard.

Just wanted to say I appreciated those that posted great tips in here.

If you need a business phone I recommend a Blackberry phone. Wait until the Android platform matures more. It is not ready for business use.

They are nice, but I never liked the physical keyboard. The biggest reason I got the iphone was the virtual voicemail, no other phone had it when I got it in 08. That feature has saved me countless hours of wasted time skipping through messages. Which was one really annoying thing on the hero that it doesn't send vm through to the headset or my truck speakers.

Good luck with not missing calls with ATT. I know alot of people with Iphones that had to get home phones since they were missing alot of calls at home. I dont want to get into with another fanboy. Its crazy how many people are almost at a brainwashed state with the iphone. A friend of mine told her boss that has a Blackberry to get an iphone since he was using mostly for work. Anyways there was my rant. kinda pointless.

I get the 20% off, too. Just my $0.02. I don't have any issues with my phone (knock on wood). The bluetooth works perfectly for me. I have used an old Jabra and a new Samsung WEP870. The only issue I've had with bluetooth (which isn't fault of the device) is that when I'm driving, playing music and using trapster, Trapster updates come through the bluetooth, when I'd rather it shut the music off (since I play it loud and can't hear updates on the bluetooth) like it does when a call comes in.

Hmm so saying the iphone is a better phone, which it is, makes someone a fanboy??

I've had no issues with missed calls in 2 years on the iphone. I have had issues with dropped calls which was a primary reason for having left ATT for the last 10 days. A dropped call doesn't lose potential business, not getting voicemails until 3 days later poses that risk. Late texts means lost money if I have a whole crew on a site stopped waiting for an answer.

If they are missing calls it is most likely they are not in 3G. A huge flaw with ATT is if your 3G is shut off or in edge and your using data it automatically diverts the call to VM. Which was apples solution to dropped calls, they tell you to turn off 3G. So you either miss them or they are dropped, crappy choices either way.

Sprints downside is you can't do voice and data at the same time which sucks for someone like me who's in a truck most of the day checking clients and jobs.

All phones have pluses and minus's, it just depends which ones you are ok living with. I dislike apple in general with their whole big brother communist manifesto crap and over priced gear, but for now they have the best phone in existence.

Isn't the Everything Plan cheaper than AT&T's comparable plan anyone, even without a discount?

Do they verify with your company if you are employed or not? I'm with a small company and zero discount possibility. Could I say that I'm with someone big and get the discount?
Saying your with a major might get you the discount without proof if they let you slide on it. I know US bank and I think UPS get sprint discounts.
I own the company and set it up with the company tax ID.

The plans are within a couple dollars of each other if you don't get voice nav and unlimited texts on ATT, but with the new business deal ATT has with 5 lines or more its 60 bucks a phone with all the goodies.
