Root problem while rooting with revolutionary

im rooting my brothers evo4g gingerbread using this method

How to ROOT HTC Evo 4G Gingerbread! [NEW] - YouTube

the first problem is on the cmd setup when i type in adb devices it shows nothing listed under connected devices. usb debugging is enabled and phone is set to charge. i got the SN off the back of the phone.

another problem is after i install the drivers i try running running revolutionary.exe and just shows waiting for device... and nothing happens.

I would forget the video and use this guide
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html
Videos seem to skip parts.

+1

Read and understand the guide. Ocnbrz put a lot of hours, trial and error, and even user tips and tricks into that thing. Much more info than on that video. ;)

Now have you deleted all things HTC from your pc prior to installing the drivers?
If not, delete all the htc stuff from your pc including the new drivers. Then just install the drivers from the guide.

Also turn off antivirus software on your pc.

If you are on 2.2 you might need to use unrevoked. Power of phone and pull battery. Wait 10 sec and put battery back in Then hold power and volume down untill it goes to the bootloader There will be an Hboot version. If its 2.10.xxxx or lower you need to use unrevoked. If its 2.15 or 2.16 then use the link i posted.

i did and it was 2.15. i can just start off the link now? i just want to make sure before jumping into it.

ok so if it is hboot 2.15 (like yours is) or 2.16 then you need revolutionary and i would use this guide:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html

if your hboot is 2.10 or below then you will need to use unrevoked. and i would use this guide:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html

so if your hboot matches with either one of those then that is what i would use to get your phone rooted.

crap i think im getting everyone confused. my phone being 2.2 is already rooted if i want 2.3 all i have to do is flash the updated rom, or do i still have to go through revolutionary?

O, snap!!

Dood you're already rooted! Yes all you need to do is flash a rooted Gingerbread rom and you're updated.
Remember this won't update your radios and such. You can still do this tho if you want the latest set. ;)

Use the roms and kernels sticky that Mike posted above, find a 2.3 rom that looks good to you and flash that sucka!

Let us know if you need anything else. :)

which one do i download?

OK, This is not the stock rooted Gingerbread rom, BUT!!!! I believe you'll love this waaaay more than the stock rom.

This is MikG by aamikam. It's Gingerbread base with Sense 2.1 and some sense 3.0 mixed in. Trust me this is what the Gingerbread update SHOULD have been. ;)

Get MikG here:
MikG v2.61 - [11/23/2011)

Make sure you follow argedions guide for flashing found here:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/441044-flash-guide-us-all-d.html

As always if you have any questions, we're here to help!:D

thanks ill be sure to let you guys know how it went? when i recover my apps will they still run on this rom?

Yes, back them up with titanium backup from the market.

Once you have the new rom setup, download titanium from the market again and restore the apps. Make sure not to restore any system stuff, it will bork things!!

Read argedions guide and once you feel you have the process down, go for it! :)
