Premium VZW Retailers Sending Out Galaxy Nexus Emails – It’s “DELICIOUS!” and “Arrives Tomorrow” – Droid Life
Post: #85570
After this post from sox08, the place caught on fire and minimum attention was given to sox08 who initially announced VZW finally officially releasing the Gnex. About 13 "Thanks" and then the firestorm. I think it should be clearly noted who broke the big news first. Thanks again sox08.

Thanks! But I'd rather pay as much as it takes (within reason) to have it ASAP rather than wait for a lousy $100. Don't get me wrong, for those on a budget this is absolutely great to have this option. I'm not rich by any means (I think I have $412 in my bank account, and that's before I buy the upgrade), but after going through this crazy "launch" debacle for the past month, $100 seems like a small price to pay for immediate satisfaction. Especially considering how easy it is to spend $100 nowadays. Heck, that's a tank a gas and a couple packs of smokes for me...

But again, if you're patient and don't want to spend $300+, then this is a GREAT option to have!!!

No problem!!! I totally understand. I am single mom with two teenagers each with a separate data plan and both have a nicer news phones than I. IT'S MY TURN!!! I have thoroughly mastered delayed gratification to an art form. If you know what I mean.

Does anyone know how long it takes for to run through the whole transaction of buying this phone? I have a meeting at work at about 10am and work about 15 mins away from the Best Buy I plan on purchasing the phone from. I plan on being there the second it opens and purchase it. Do you think it takes more than 30 mins, does it depend if I get a rookie working there? Thoughts plz?

I can't help you with how long it'll take. It's different every time for me. I'd suggest getting there a couple hours (yes, hours..) early if you really want to ensure you're one of the first. I don't know exactly what to expect, so I'm going to do a driveby at around 6AM and see how it's looking. If anyone's there, I'm gonna stay... if not, I'll go home and wait impatiently some more. Maybe I'll even do a driveby at like 3AM as well, just incase other Pittsburghers are crazy fanatics and want to steal my phone!

Once you're actually being waited on, though... I'd say it takes between 15-20 minutes. Some can be quicker than others, but if you're not going to activate it yourself, you have to wait for them.

I haven't been an overly active poster in this forum, but I have lived in it since it opened. I am honored to be just a small part of this epic adventure. I really have enjoyed most of the wait and in a weird way I hate to see it end. My wife and daughter are excited that I will finally be a part of the family again. I want to thank you all for the fun and I hope that you all enjoy the power of the Nexus.

Cross-posting from another thread:
EDIT: These are 'considered' to be best practices. If you feel otherwise, please follow your own steps.

General best practice --

1 - Take phone out of the box and charge it to 100%.
2 - Unplug as soon as it reaches 100% (or as soon as you can)
3 - Drain the battery until the phone turns off with 'normal' use.
4 - Recharge to full.
5 - Use as you would normally.

This will calibrate the battery.

For normal charging - leaving it plugged in overnight and using it the next day is not a bad thing. Generally (and this will be disputed I'm sure) you really only ever want to charge after you go below 20%, as a battery's "sweet" spot in from 20-80%.

The longer a battery stays plugged in, the longer it cycles the charging/draining technique. If you can, unplug as soon as it's fully charged. But as most of us plug it in overnight and use it in the morning, this is really just being nit-picky.

These steps will allow you to maintain the full lifespan of the battery.
I'd really like to try these steps out, as I want to take every precaution to calibrate my battery for the longest possible life. However, correct me if I'm wrong, but won't the phone turn on and try to boot up when plugged in? At least, this was the case with my OG Droid. Forgive me if this is a stupid question.

Oh boy will they be jealous!!!! Enjoy :D

And I just got what you mean with that last part... lol. A little risque for a Android forum, don't you think!? HAHA, totally kidding =)

This has certainly been an interesting adventure. I learned a bunch and wanted to thank you all.

Some take away points:

- I will not need to ride a roller coaster for years
- I already exceeded my lifetime intake of sodium
- Bigfoot is coordinated enough to operate a smartphone while riding his unicorn
- Arrows apparently do a number on the knees

BTW, thanks for all the posts about the discount codes. I was not able to get the $100 off but a very nice CSR was able to give me $9.99 off each of my 3 lines for 12 months.

I am sure I will be doing this again in 2 years or sooner. I will see some of you then?

I have some news for those on a buget like myself. I just called Verizon and asked the rep on the phone about the $100 promo. Said he hadn't heard of it. Told him I was upgrading from a 3G to a 4G. Gave him all the data that I learned here...that it started March 17th and ends on Dec 31. Well to make a short story longer he found it and said " yes since you are due an upgrade you do qualify" He noted it on my account which is all he can do. In order for me to get it I must call them tomorrow and order my upgrade by speaking with a rep and they will apply both promo my $50 to upgrade and the $100.

That was the good news. The bad news is I will get my phone by Saturday but I will save an extra $100!!!

Just to check I called the corporate store and they both said the phone is being released tomorrow and that I need to order directly from Verizon and have it sent to get that $100.

Just wanted everyone to know. Can't imagine what it would be like to be at the store tomorrow and be able to get the phone but not able to get the additional $100 off.

Hope this helps.

Was told you can just go to the Verizon store. All they need is to see that you have a 4G capable phone and your charge to your account will be reduced -$50 for loyalty and -$100 for upgrading to a 4g phone. It should act a credit, not a rebate.

Thank you all for keeping me company while we all waited to get our hands on this phone. We laughed together and cried together. We fought and hugged, cheered and booed. It was great, a real cyber-family. Enjoy your nexus Stephen58, you've been a fabulous mod. See you all in the watering hole!
Now, The Big Bang Theory is on and I hate to miss that show! Those guys are truly crazy.

Thanks to the Mods, the source, members - senior and newbies alike for all the contributions. Countless hours have been spent researching, scouring the internet, tweeting, texting looking for tidbits of info. We've been through good times and bad. But the laughter, the videos and pics kept us through it all. Got to know lots of great guys and gals here. What an awesome ride it's been!

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the other side...rather the "regular" Nexus general forums.

Skip the meeting. How will you be able to concentrate on your meeting with you new phone burning a hole in your pocket?
