***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I'm so excited to get this tomorrow morning! I have a few questions now that the release date is official. :)

  1. My name is listed as an account manager and I have access to the account online as well. Will I be able to purchase the phone/extend my contract without the primary account holder away? My dad is traveling for the week so this better not be a problem...

  2. Will there be any difficulty using the $100 NE2 discount from the primary line of my family share plan? My line is also eligible for an upgrade so I don't think this should be an issue.

  3. In Ice Cream Sandwich does the launcher have the subtle scrolling effect between home screens like in Honeycomb or is it possible to make the image static? I'd prefer to create a static background so it's easier to design in Fireworks.

  4. Is it possible to lock the home screen orientation to portrait? I want other windows to rotate as normal if possible. I've been doing this on my Droid with LauncherPro but I'll want to use the stock launcher with ICS.

  5. I've seen the bootloader unlock tutorial but is there one available for rooting yet (or is that done as part of bootloader unlock)? I don't know if I even need this yet, but I'll unlock the bootloader at least right away since that wipes the phone and there's no sense in having to set it up twice if I don't have to.

Can't wait!

Can someone please answer these? At least the very first one would be greatly appreciated. :)

Switched from TM to Verizon while I was out there. It really blows in that area.

Yeah, even when I have a signal calls are being dropped like a hot potato, if they connect at all. T-Mobile is NOTHING like this in big metro areas like Baltimore or Saint Paul. Thanks for the tip. I will try to get it tomorrow.

Let me show you the unanimously awful reviews for this corporate store.

Verizon Wireless

My concern was about returns/service -- can I still do that at a corp store as normal if I buy from an authorized reseller? Are there extra ETFs and such like with Amazon?

I was wondering if you have a ripe upgrade on another line and use that instead of transferring the upgrade to yours but activate the phone on your line then does it work out? The line that originally had the upgrade would be stuck in an extended contract while the line where the Nexus is activated doesn't right?

I think my question got lost but I was wondering if anyone can answer it? Please and Thank you! :)

Saying goodbye for now...

Part of me thinks it's just plain silly to write to a group of geeks on the internet that in a sense I know nothing about, but I guess it boils down to the love for technology and gadgets that gives us all a common interest. We have had quite a few ups and downs during the wait for this phone. I have not waited as long as some, but longer than others, but I am probably more impatient than most. ;)

The hardest part for of this wait for me was giving back the phone after bringing it home, some of you said some really nice things about my character for doing it, some might have even thought I was crazy. :) Thank you again for your compliments.

This has been the best forum I have ever been involved with, the members are friendly and helpful I'm especially impressed with no one attacking noobs with the demands to use the search button. The members are only half of what makes this a great community, the mods are the other half. Nothing to say other than they do an awesome job at keeping the peace and staying fair. I must admit 2 of my posts were deleted (that were written out of frustration) and I apologize that you had to delete them. I learned a long time ago to never base your decisions off of your emotions.

I hope we all have a pleasant experience picking up our phones and I wish everyone here a very Merry Christmas.

I don't mean for this answer to be unwelcoming, but you could definitely get the answer to #1 from verizon within seconds by calling *611 on your phone; a CSR should immediately be there to answer that question. I would also answer it or any of your other q's if i knew the answers :p

They say I'm eligible for "discounted pricing".....but if I wait til 12/29 I can get a "loyalty discount" as well.....so???? Still $600+??

Sorry to be so needy this evening. I'm really quite done in...

No, discounted pricing should be the $299 or maybe a bit more. I am screwed looking at $650 plus 6% tax

lol at Han :)

I want to wish everyone that gets the GN the very best of luck :)

This thread has been just plain AWESOME. From the lowest of lows to the highest of highs.........what a ride. And to do it with such a cast of characters :):)

Many thanks to Stephen..............really a great mod and a great person. And many thanks to the other mods, early, OTD, and more. Without their great leadership and efforts, this thread would not have existed at all...............:):)

Have to make a really difficult decision tomorrow about getting this phone...........if i do it will most likely be at retail to avoid the 2 year contract. Will have to sleep on it.

Take care everyone............sorry for being such a pessimist at times.

General Verizon ???'s

1. I have a $50 corporate discount. Every CSR that I have spoke to has said "we don't discount phones"... yet, when I open up the link that I get through my work... there it is Rezound - $249, RAZR $249. So, apparently they do discount phones. The question is, can I apply this in the store? Will they let me open the link from my email and show them the price?

2. If I can't get the discount in the store, and order online, how does one activate the phone when you receive it? When does your number port over? Would I be without a phone while I wait on shipping?

3. Any way around the "activation" fee? For instance... if I can't get my $50 discount in a store, I'd do express overnight shipping for $15, so, total savings after tax would be around $40. Could I negotiate the activation fee off of the in-store CSR's tomorrow and tell them that I will buy from them if they waive that fee? So, the net difference would only be $5?

I am hopeful for my switch to Verizon. You all may feel like they do not treat you well, but, many people on here have some sort of discount applied to their account and won't pay full price. That's the way it should be. If you've been paying for their service, you should get the discounts. Hopefully in 2013 when we're all doing this again, I'll be getting a good deal as well.

You can do it either way. I would recommend just transferring the upgrade however, because you will need to get a new sim card before you activate it on your line, unless you already have a microsim.

Hi Grandma, If you login to your verizon account, and look at smartphones. The price you see on the RAZR should be the same as the GNex.

Stopped by the corp store that was nice to me earlier to check to see if I could do the upgrade or if I needed to have my wife with me since she is the primary on our plan. I can do the upgrade all on my own :D and I walked out with one of the only two otterbox defender cases they had in stock. CSR said to be there by 8:30 because there was going to be a line and the phones are first come first serve. I was in there a total of 15 minutes and the CSRs took three phone calls, all trying to reserve the GNex. I think I am going to be there at 8:00.

So a bit of sad news for me...

They screwed me out of the $100 promo! I called to confirm it, and someone noted yesterday on my account that I was not eligible for it. WTF?!

I really hope this doesn't happen to me.. Talked to 2 people earlier the second person said I was eligible and said they would "note on it" for when I get my new phone.. I have a feeling when I go in there tomorrow it wont be on there :(
