AWESOME story of how I got my GNEX (share yours!)

OK, so I conducted a poll here to see who was going to get the GNex opening day and who would wait...I answered that I would wait. I guess I lied.
So I'm at work and I just can't stand having my constantly freezing, waiting-to-react Droid any more, so I called the Verizon store about a mile from my work and they said they were almost sold out. So I walked down only to see a line of 4 dudes at the checkout. The manager says, "if you're here to get a Nexus, we're sold out," and then proceeded to get my info to do an order for me to have it by tomorrow.
Well, another guy comes in with a Nexus and says he has no data connectivity. The manager says, "where'd you get it?" He says, "Best Buy" (across the street). The manager looks at me and says, "if you wanna go for it, no problem...if they're out, I'll still get you squared away." So I left. Best Buy was out, so I walked back and the only person left was the dude who I was in line behind. He finishes his ordering process and I step up and the manager and her assistant begin to take care of me in ordering the Nexus which should arrive in the mail tomorrow.
About 2-3 minutes into the process, the manager, standing behind the checkout girl, looks down at the shelf right in front of us and says, "What's this?" She reaches down and grabs a plain white SGN box right in front of us. The checkout girl stops, realizing that, holy crap...it's a SGN. She looks confused, thinking they were out, turns around to her manager and says, "I thought you sold that one." The manager chuckles and says, "I though YOU sold that one." They both then look at me with a smile and I say, "Did I just get lucky?" The manager says, "Yup...you just got lucky." So they sold me the last SGN they had...hidden in plain sight.

As an aside, they were notified of the release yesterday afternoon...they got 30 SGNs in. The Droid RAZR they had been notified of a week in advance and they got 40...about 15 of which were still sitting on the very front shelf in their box.

Congrats, sounds like a good morning to me. I am going to be heading over in about an hour to go to my corporate store. Should just be opening so shouldn't be sold out, wish me luck :D

Mine was held for me at hh Gregg but they didn't need to. I'm the only one so far to buy one there.

Nobody knows they are selling it.

Meanwhile at Verizon across the street I saw at least 10 people in there.

Funny.

Of course there were 15 left, but sold through the first batch of 40 :) ;)

My local corporate store still had a few left at 10:30am when I got there. I planned to pay full retail since I got the thunderbolt on contract at launch. He said they weren't selling them without new contracts. Then he suggested we activate another line on my family plan ($7.80 a month after company discount) and put a dummy esn on it until I decide if I want to buy a cheap phone to use on there. So I got it for $299, no activation fee, also threw in a free case of my choice and screen protectors... If I choose to cancel the line and pay the ETF it'll still only cost me around $650 total.

Thats pretty lame of the them to make you add a new line. I went to best buy and paid $649 retail price as they price matched vzw.

Sadly, they seem to do this more often with high demand devices. When the Storm launched, a local store near me at the time, had the first guy in line walk in, pay cash for the 10 they had in stock at retail, and leave. They now do this just to try to at least give "real" customers a shot at the phones so they can actually use them, instead of people looking to flip them for a quick profit.

However, I would like to think they would at least give current customers the benefit of the doubt. Activate it on the spot or whatever. I mean, I know the bigger picture is they get paid on new lines, not outright purchases, but still..

(all this coming from a guy who just added a new line for the Nexus... :p )
