Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Hey everybody,

I'm excited, my Nexus should be here w/in an hour!! Quick question regarding the extending battery and included larger battery cover:
Will this work with the diztronic case, or would it be too tight?
We've gotten reports that you can simply use the stock door with the extended battery, which means it should fit into the Diztronic case just fine. :)
I'M HERE! Only took me 24 hours to find where you guys went...
Welcome! :)

I'm using a Dixtronic case with an extended battery...works just fine. The ext. battery adds VERY little thickness, and the case is flexible, so it's not a problem.

You do realize that you're in the minority, right? If they had to put it somewhere, it was always going to be on the right.

lol

:D

:) Oh I get that! I just wish they would keep everything along the lower side of the screen as much as possible unless maybe it's something that spans the whole width such as the status bar or search/address bars up top. But, I always kinda go, "yay" when I notice it in the lower onscreen standard buttons on legacy apps as even though that's the right side it's more reachable.

Rumors of mice and keyboards working with USB cable on stock kernel (4.0.2) and I will test this in a few when I get home. If this is the case a flash drive just needs to be mounted.

I'm rooting when I get home so ill do some checking for you guys.

The girlfriend wants to have an Are You Afraid of the Dark marathon tonight since its on TV. Could use a night in too.

So who else tried out face unlock? I was suprised how fast it worked in decent lighting. But realized it wasn't for me, because I leave my phone on my desk at work, and don't want to pick it up to turn it on and unlock it.

It does get annoying, but the biggest thing I've found it to be useful for is impressing non-tech people who want to know about the phone. They don't know about processing speed, LTE, software, and explaining any of that is a waste of time. But show them face unlock, and they oooh and ahhh over it. That, combined with showing them HQ videos on YouTube in full screen HD has gotten a few people to say "Oh, so that's why you waited so long."

Tangible evidence of the phone's greatness, my friends. Tangible evidence.

And your batteries half full still, even with all that power!! I am a bit jealous of the guy here with the AT&T Samsung Skyrocket. The AT&T LTE coverage here is just as good as VZW and their LTE phones are MUCH better on battery. Not to mention the infancy of their LTE offering means he gets consistent speeds like this or better. He got 30/12mbps actually when we did an LTE race. I got 10/12mbps or something.

I've had one reboot as well late last night. Not a biggie if that's all there is going to be :D

Eh, my Rezound rebooted probably 3 times the first day and then never since. It takes time for the faeries and hamsters to get settled inside the device.

I don't think so. Storage devices aren't treated the same as input peripherals.

Most of the custom kernels being developed on XDA have host mode enabled. After I unlock and root, I may try to fiddle with one; some of them supposedly have much better power governors and other improvements.

What MHL cable do you have? I want to get one that I know for sure will work.

I got this one off eBay: eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

It's a US seller, so the ship time was great. The same cable is also available for about half the price from Honk Kong sellers, but I'm impatient.

My impressions:

IMO, this design is much better than the official Samsung adapter. The power input is on the TV end and it has a male HDMI connector built in. It makes for a much cleaner setup than Samsung's phone to adapter to HDMI cable and power cable configuration. Instead of a mess of wires 6 inches from the phone you got about three feet of straight cable leading up to the phone.

A nice bonus for me is that my TV has a USB port on the back for flashing new firmware. It provides enough juice to power the setup, so everything is hidden behind the tv. The only thing you see is a the micro usb end for the phone.

Well two classes finished two to go! Been really hard not to play with my new phone all day! BF was upset yesterday when it took me forever to set it up and then I had to study and couldn't help with painting our room.

So far I'm a very happy girl. TPU case looks great. I haven't put on my screen protector yet because my house is so dusty. Think I'll do it tonight or tomorrow depending on what work we do on the place.

Random q - I like using a picture frame on my homescreen but the stock one doesn't fit right. Any widget suggestions?

Sadly (but more happily) not, things took quite a turn yesterday morning, I found out I was becoming a Dad :D, so with priorities needing to be set straight I did not get the wifey a GN just myself. She said she could wait and thinks the GN is too large for her.

Awesome and Congrats! You'll love it! I have two and they make almost everything more awesome.

Let me know how your root/unlock bootloader go! gl!

I did mine last night. Was a bit of a process as the driver that needs to load once in the bootloader menu for the BL unlock didn't want to load. Found a driver on Rootzwiki for PDAnet that did the trick though. I have done so much messing with a good 4 or 5 android devices, including another Samsung in my wifes Charge, on that computer though that I think something about all the driver loading I have done for the other devices probably confused it.

Everything went smoothly though after I got a driver that would work in the bootloader. Now I have Unlock, Root, and CWM Recovery all just waiting on some awesome customized ICS ROMs. Will probably stay with the stock ROM until some stable Source built roms are out though. Well that and another release or two of improved proprietary stuff in the next google push or two. Really hoping there is a radio update or two to improve on that a bit. It's not really bad, but could be better.
