Help Can't double-tap or pinch zoom in browser

I'm using the stock browser and I have seen where people can pinch or double-tap zoom with these. Unless I am being a total noob, I cannot seem to get this to work ever. Is there maybe a setting I overlooked to enable it anywhere? I've already tried different options with the various text size, default zoom, auto-fit settings in the menu settings, but nothing helped. I have tried dozens of different websites with no luck. Multi-touch seems nonexistent. Or does this work only with certain websites, and I just haven't found one yet that supports it?

I can get it to work in other apps, like maps. Just can't do it in the browser.

there is no setting for it that i remember. You might be doing to oposite of what you need to. pinching actually zooms out, to zoom in place too fingers together on the screen and pull the apart towards top and botom of screen.

I know how it is done, and as I said it works in apps like Maps. But the browser just doesn't want to cooperate.

So apparently this functionality is indeed disabled on sites not designed for it. After seeing someone use it on Wikipedia, I tried it there and it works for me. But on other sites I tried, line CNN, HuffPo, among others, it does not work. That's kind of a drag. Like I am going to make a note of every site that is designed to allow it and remember that I can use it there. Forget that.

ฬhen you're on CNN with your stock browser, scroll all the way down 'till υ see the Full Site View link at the bottom page. Tap that link and it'll give υ the full site version with zooming capabilities.

Same with Huffington Post, scroll all the way down and tap the Desktop View.

Unless υ deliberately Force Stop your browser, the next time around those ωebsites should take υ straight to the Full/Desktop version.

Try a browser that will allow you to easily switch between android and desktop mode. I stay in desktop mode which gives me total pinch- zoom and scroll control on every site.

There's several out on the market. But if you want as close to a PC look and functionality as possibly then Dolphin HD is the answer. It's not the fastest, just the most functional.
It starts out stripped down so you can customize the functionality by choosing the add-on's that you want. Just go to market and search Dolphin add-on's.

My two cents worth, Dolphin HD is probably the most popular choice, but there are others too. xScope offers most of the same features and is slightly faster. Another option to consider is Miren, with that you can just double tap to zoom, and it's pretty fast, too. Experiment, see which one you like. There is no one right answer.

You've got to see all that it can do.
You'll be using Dolphin HD too.

FYI: I tried every one you mentioned and probably a little over a dozen more.
After I installed it then installed the plugins and checked out the ease of navigation (scroll page left to get to tools, switch modes, and change or add pages in the middle of the page;right to access everything else right in the middle of the page). I was hooked for sure and for certain after downloading the plugins I needed.

Fair enough, I haven't tried Dolphin since before my CPU debacle and I didn't use it because it was too slow. Now my phone runs the way it should, I ought to give it another try.

Xscope allows you to pinch-zoom mobile pages, and word wraps well. I just left Dolhin HD for it. (and unlimited speed dials). Not sure about "don't have to zoom mobile sites"... even on my 5" Galaxy Player I need to zoom the fine print!

Also don't forget that for news sites you do not even need a browser. There's a newsreader (the News And Weather app) that comes with our phones. You can customize it in the options to pick up your favorite news site.

If you don't like the one that comes with our phones, I highly recommend Feedly. I've been using their newsreader software for Firefox long before they made it into an app. It's a hella nice newsreader.
