Help No album art in Google Music

Can anyone think of a reason why I am not getting my album art to display in Google Music on my Optimus V? It works fine on other android phones (like my old dreaded Intercept) and on a friend's HTC Evo when I login to my account.

I've removed and re-installed the google music application and still no album art. I am running stock (not rooted).

Nothing I've seen on the google forums to help.

For Optimus V owners using Google Music out there, does your album art display?

Mine displays fine. Are you on 3G or wifi? Does it still play okay? Does it only happen on the player screen, or does it happen in the library as well?

It's the same 3G or WiFi. Music plays just fine. It happens on all the screens...there is never album art displayed. Also, on the Intercept I have it shows the Album screen as a flip book rather than tiles. I like the flip interface better than the tiles. Both have the latest update of Music.

I think I figured it out...sort of. It certainly has to do with syncing. I have re-synced and now I get some album art but not all. I'll keep playing with it.

I think it depends on what band you are listening to. I like the punk rocks, so some of the artwork isn't exactly available or uploaded (I'm guessing) to Gracenote. Also, if you have made a compilation of tunes for say, a party or whatnot, no artwork will appear for that either.

Granted, it will pull covers for Lady Gaga long before it can find the cover for Young, Loud, and Snotty by the Dead Boys. My music collection is psychotic enough that half the time I can't find album covers or lyrics anyway. I usually don't sweat it, as long as I have my jams!

I normally have the album art embedded right into each FLAC file per album, so Google Music (or my Sonos, or boyfriends Sonos/Squeezebox) has no issue finding it regardless of the genre.

A good piece of software to get this done is Mp3tag.

Here's what is funny. I store my music as FLAC with album art embedded. No music app that uses the default media scanner (to include the new Google Music) will display album art! However, PowerAMP will, but it's the only app.

So, how do you trick Google Music into displaying album art? I'm now re-downloading album art as cover.jpg, and even that doesn't work. I can get it to work in embedded MP3 files, but I prefer to use FLAC.

Hrm, try logging in to your Google music web interface from your pc browser. Locate one album with missing cover art and click on it. When that opens you will see a tiny black triangle on the bottom right corner of where the album image should be. Click on it and a menu will appear. Try editing the album info (you'll see where you can browse for cover art). Theoretically it should update itself on your phone and show the cover art.

No idea if that will work or not, but it's something to try.

Try renaming the file to 'albumart.jpg' within your album folder. That works with the default music player on the phone.

I'm new to trying out Google music. I have some songs I, ahem, 'found' on the internet years ago. if I upload them to Google music will I be flagged or something? and can you sort music in Google music by genre or year for example, meaning an advanced playlist filter?

and since you guys brought up album covers: one thing that drives me crazy for some weird OCD reason is I want the original album covers, not some Best Of covers. To me, the covers are as much a snapshot in time of when the song was released as the song itself. How does Google music populate covers? Do they actually upload my covers from the album folder structure, because I've spend loads of time tracking down original covers!

It happened to me that my album had cover art and it was not properly displayed in my Nexus S' (Google) Play Music app. After some analysis, I realized I had four albums for the same artist under one folder, I took them out and placed them directly and separated in the music folder of my sd root and voil

If you use MP3Tag (for the PC) to embed the album art into the music files, your music files can all be placed within the same folder on your phone. You also will not need the cover art image file.

After that just use a media scanner app from the Play store to rescan your files and you should be golden.

go to settings on your phone > apps > google play music > click clear data > ok > now next time you open up google play music it will load damn near all your album arts for you automatically.

I was having this exact same problem on my phone, one day it just decided to stop loading album art for most things and I got that ridiculous fake google art. Clearing data fixed it right up.
