DI.FM & Streaming to the Droid - Android 2.0 Phone

Ok, I just got back from the Verizon store. I was checking out the Droid... I popped open the browser and went to DI.FM.

Digitally Imported - Addictive Electronic Music

I tried all 3 public streams (MP3, Windows Media, AACPlus), and nothing. I asked the data tech guys at the counter and they said there might or will eventually probably be a app that will work with DI.FM.

So anyone checked into this? Anyone gotten DI.FM working? I'm especially interested to see if I can get the premium subscriber channels to work. The phone is pretty damn sweet and right now the only thing holding me back is the fact I can't stream my favorite internet radio station.

According to the specs of the Droid, it supports AACPlus streams. This is big!!! Currently it's next to impossible to stream AACplus encrypted streams on windows mobile.

I cannot get di.fm premium streams to work with droidlive. The non-premium di.fm stations show up in the shoutcast directory and those play of course. I tried URLs for all formats. I emailed the developer for droidlive. They said encrypted di.fm premium streams should work in the future. However, that was two updates ago so I don't think it's going to happen. Also, I don't think the streams are encrypted anyway. It's basically a complex URL that has your login and password embedded. I can put that URL in a playlist file and play it on my Xbox 360 or copy the URL to a browser windows and play it through the WMP plug-in. Also, the premium streams play on my ipod touch

I was hoping di.fm would come out with an app. I don't think that will happen either.

Did you stream the Free streams? How about the premium streams? I'm looking for a program that will stream the encrypted premium streams reliably. I've gotten StreamFurious to stream them, however it only streams for a minute or two then drops.

FWIW, I can test some links on my n900. Its native player plays some streams that require 3rd party apps for the Droid, and possibly some they can not e.g.:

www.ibizasonica.com

Can anyone play the *.smil (Real Audio) files on:

www.carlcox.com

...from the archived sets? More specifically:

http://uk.real.com/smil/carlcox_show1.smil

I actually stand corrected (I contacted di.fm support). The premium streams that play through DroidLive have to be copied from the station page, not the drop down menu. I've been trying to stream the URL's copied from the drop down menu, which require cookies to run.

I've found that the easiest thing to do is send yourself a gmail containing the URLs to all the premium stations of interest. And then copy each one into DroidLive using the "add url" function. BTW- I'm using the ACC+ 64kbps stream, I haven't tried the premium wma or mp3 streams.

And perhaps a conversation for another forum: So the non-premium 128 kbps mp3 streams were replaced with 128 ACC. Any thoughts on whether the standard ACC 128 streams would sound better than the 64 ACC+? Obviously, streaming 64 kbps over 3G might work much better than a 128 kbps stream.

Excellent.. Works on my Droid. Finally I don't have to listen to the damn WebEx commercial again while working out at the gym!!!
