Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Tom, although I've been using smartphones for a few years, this is my first android OS so, look forward to learn more about customization, even though for now, I've set it up pretty much how I like it.

also, I got the extended battery last night and it barely adds to the phone's bulk. you can't really tell the difference between extended and standard. the VZW store agent claimed the battery would double the usage VS the 1850 version, which I doubt, but it will certainly now be able to provide a totally useable all day service (if not all weekend) for my needs.

Thinking about trying out Nova Launcher to get the extra row of app space. Anyone else tried it out?
I downloaded it yesterday and I love it. I like removing the Google search and getting the extra row. The icons are a little smaller than before, but still plenty large enough on that big screen.

Now if Nova would allow me to hide the notification bar it'd be perfect.

I am actually considering getting a case, something I usually don't do, because this phone is so wide and slippery and I'm afraid it's only a matter of time before it slips out of my hand. It's really a problem when I try to use it one-handed.
I am using a TPU case, it does not add much to the phone but will hopefully prevent damages. I never used a case on my DroidX, just a Steinheil Crystal, but it the case was nicked from dropping it only three or four times. The TPU case has some texture on the edges which I was not sure I would like, but it does seem to reduce the slippery factor.

I really like mine and it most certainly improves the grip. I did have to cut out the volume buttons as others have because it was far too easy to change the volume.
That's a great tip on the volume buttons, so far that has been my only complaint, I keep accidently changing the volume, I think I will cut out the buttons on the case.

Thinking I am going to have to trade mine in too. Even my wife is seeing the greys. :(

guys, I hate being a Negative Nancy or a Debbie Downer, but after a night with my new phone, I think this one is worse than the first!!

The whites pop a bit more, but now I'm getting the same terrible artifacts in the blacks on videos that someone was complaining about earlier, and there is significant lag when touching on apps or buttons.

:(

I guess I'm going to be that annoying idiot who keeps coming back til its perfect.

Shoot, I should have just stayed with the grayer but super fast and deep-blacked-phone.

:(

I've got it, definitely nice to recover that area of the screen's real estate. Seems to be just as smooth as ICS. Widgets aren't really in their own drawer now.. it's the old style. Still debating if I like that or not.

Overall, very nice launcher and plays very well with ICS.

As far as Nova goes, you can have the widgets be in the app drawer like normal if you install Nova to the system file (requires root), instead of as a simple apk.

I forgot how to do it, but its in the instructions in that thread about "what apps have you installed" or something like that, in the first post.

Year, he definitely lied to you about getting double the usage, so far I would feel comfortable telling you I probably get an extra hour to hour and a half from it vs stock

Good Morning Gnexers! :D

Well, I think my Beloved Nexus Ginny is now complete:

GOOGLE WALLET WITHOUT ROOT!

:D :D :D :D :D

I was suspicous that this might be malware or something, but Lookout scanned it without flagging it. I successfully added funds and yes: got my free $10!

If you haven't seen it yet, Andhily posted it in his own thread:

http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-nexus/465902-google-wallet-no-root-needed.html

So I thought I'd pass on the good news. Enjoy!

EDIT: And suddenly, my favorite gas station apparently takes it! WHOOT I can hardly wait to try it out!

I'm a little perturbed seeing posts here and in the Nexus forum about all the misinformation that VZW store reps are giving to their customers. Completely ignoring all the blatantly incorrect info heard before the Nexus release so that they could sell more useless Razrs, hearing that reps tell people that the sync button is a "tilt lock" and that the extended battery will double your juice is really pretty worrisome. Clearly VZW needs to improve their training. :/

To chip in on screen talk, I have noticed that with my background (its all black with a white NY in the middle) gets almost burnt into the screen when I open settings. I can see the NY in the screen when I go into settings or any other dark screen and it takes a significant amount of time for it to go away. Its quite subtle, but definitely noticeable.
